One of the initial things that attracted me to Conan was the promise of a mature community (especially compared to wow).
After reading several posts here the past two days, Im not so sure thats the case. Please tell me wow players arent stealing their dad's credit cards and playing this game ?
I look at Grand Theft Auto series and that game clearly is very popular among teens despite the fact that its a game they shouldnt even have access too. Is Conan's rating and level of violence and nudity going to actually bring in more of a wowish type player than even wow itself ?
Your thoughts...

Forums really are not indicative of anything. You only get a certain segment of the population that actually plays a game. And they tend to be the most annoying types. The ones that want to brag, start flame wars, annoy people just to annoy people, etc.
Having said that, I still voted for the first choice. The post quality here and at AOC has been pretty juvenile lately, though that could be just because of the EA problems (the haves vs. the have nots) and now the delay.
wow no votes so far for 30+ ?
Nobody thinks any of us 30+ yr olds who grew up on Conan comics will play this game ?
Well, I'll be playing and I'm 45 lol. I tend to think also that, in general, the younger people will play more on the PvP servers. I'll be on a PvE server myself, at least to begin.
That's not it at all.. we know about you, we just don't believe that it will make up the majority of the AoC sub base. More than likely, it will be one of the first two options.

Im leaning toward that unofficial rp server, wiccana myself. I have considered the only US RP-PVP server but Im not sure these 39 yr old hands can keep up with the combat system in a pvp setting.
And yeah I agree, younger players tend to prefer the pvp servers.
It will be interesting to see how the RP-PvP server goes and whether or not the ruleset is enforced.
Im 26. I dont care who plays or what age they are. You will always have pubescent teens taking out their frustrations in Virtual Worlds. This comes from Mommy and Daddy always telling them what they can and cant do. So they try and tell us what we can and can't do.
Dont worry little ones, we already know you know everything. I was a teen once to lol.

question, if a game is rated Mature dont you have to be 18 to play ? Or is that just 18 yr old to buy the game ?
Unfortunately looking at the official forums, this seems to be the case. Wow underage kids replying to nicely written threads with "This thread is shit" and then quotes to this "LOLZAGREEZ!!!!!111" and cheap flaming all around.
The ingame chat looks good though.
Underage players are not my concern. Immature players on the other hand....
Why is there another post on this?
Anyway it doesn't matter about age. I couldn't care less if the people in my party were under 18 and they behaved themselves, I'm under 18 myself. So you better arrest me or something.
The game won't be but the forums sure will.

Just to buy it. How many parents do you think are going to buy AoC for their kids.. I'm sure quite a few. Maybe they have older brothers or sisters.. maybe they have friends that are a couple years older. Uncles, Aunts... people who don't know anything about the game. For the most part, if someone wants to play this game.. they are going to get their hands on it eventually.I played Counterstrike when I was 14-15, that was a pretty violent game. You know what, my mom often sat and watched me too. Some parents just don't care.
Well unfortunately this game has all the ingredients to act like a Full Blown Kiddie Magnet!
- Able to chop off heads.
- Lot's of blood gore.
- Mature rating.
All things kiddies like.
But as long as they in far minority and stick to the gankfest....ehh PvP servers, Im fine with it.
If they dominate like in WoW ....well then I won't be sitting out the first 30 days and head back to EQ2!
I have nothing personal against younger gamers. My son is 15 and we game together all the time in MMO's. We both have had accounts together in CoH, WoW, SWG, Tabula Rasa, and EVE.
Having said that, my question remains...is it a requirement to be 18 to play the game or is that just a requirement to purchase the game ? Is it even a law or just a suggestion ? I dont know much about how the video game industry polices these things (it wasnt that long ago when games didnt even have a rating system)
Hit the nail on the head heh
Considering most people that play MMOs are over 18 I'd say no... however, I can't say anything for people that act underage which is MANY with the anonimity formula.
Age only dictates maturity by biased opinion's, who says that just because someone is over 21 or even 17 that a magic switch will flip on in your mind from immature to mature?
It's a rating. Just like with movies.
But unfortunately most parents today don't give a darn about those ratings and let their kids watch and play everything anyway *sigh*
I doubt it will be DOMINATED by underage players, but perhaps there will be a minority.
That said, I don't think all underage players are immature. Some are very well behaved and you can enjoy teaming with them.
But still I think the brutality in this game can have a negative impact on young people, not all but again some of them.

Yep and when those parents find out the game is is violent or has sex, then they blame the game.
yes this is true. Ive known some friends that are over 35 but act like they are 12. And my 15 yr old son is very mature. They are the exceptions though.
The average teen simply isnt going to have the MMO experience or maturity of a 35 yr old. And speaking from experience in MMO's, Id rather not be surrounded by them. For every mature 15 yr old, there are 50 bratty ones who ruin immersion, rping, and general fun.
I left world of warcraft because of their awful immature community. I guess I hoped that the M rating would keep those same players out of this game. But the consensus seems to be that the rating will in fact attract MORE of those kinda players.
Do you all think that the RP-PvP server will at least be a mature community ? I know younger players tend to flock to pvp servers so I should probably avoid them. But the idea of FFA is rather appealing (even if I dont really care for pvp that much). It gives the game more of a sandbox - total freedom feel to me anyway

Well if there is one thing I have learned playing MMO's the past years is to NEVER AGAIN join a PVP-tagged server! Not even an RP-PVP one.

These PvP servers will probably have somewhat older players, maybe a little more sophisticated in their ganking, so I'm going full PvP for the thrill

thats the reason Im rolling on a FFA PVP server. So I can kill all of these kids Ive grown to hate in wow without faction limitations.

Honestly, I was really excited about the mature game and I was hoping for a mature community. However, from the looks of it, it seems we're getting a bunch of WoW noobs also. And when I say WoW noobs, this usually pertains to people from ages of 12-23 who have only played WoW for their MMO and are extremely immature.
I have a group of WoW noobs as friends in real life, and half of their WoW guild is going to be playing Age of Conan, which is very disappointing. They love to talk about how much they 0wnz0rz in WoW arena and how they're going to 0wnz0rZ in AoC also. I wish I could have showed them Guild Wars pre-expansions PvP so they wouldn't think they were so tough.
Anyways, I would much rather have a lower population with mature people than a high population full of idiots, and it kind of seems like that won't be the case in AoC.
