Btw, if those are guild alliances, with AoC's system (or rather lack of system) doesn;t that mean they can attack each other as well as the opposition.

You really wanna see some video of players that cant move there characters cause theyre lagged to death?

Sieges dont work cause game have way too demanding graphics.

You just have to wait for Darkfall for functionally working sieges.

Egad recommending a game that is nothing but hype, in a thread about a feature that was over-hyped to a huge degree.

    And the cycle continues.

To be accurate it was PFB sieging LotD.

PFB had (sinister+ ice gaming under its tag) vs LotD

There were some PRX/DDH in the zone who came along, but since the zone is open to the world anyone could come in there. So what happened is that LotD+PFB+random server curious bystanders maxed out the 96 man instance.
We both had tech issues, but we started with 500 points for the score. We ended with 740 (from killing PFB) and they ended with 47 (from killing us).
Other than the fact that sieges are announced and the whole server knows about it, there is nothing we can do about extra people coming into a zone to max it out.

Is that a bug, because I just assumed only the two sides could get in.  If it isn't that is rather dumb.

Although I do think having some kind of observer mode like Guild Wars has for their GvG would nice for the server to have.  Not that I think Funcom will ever be making such a thing, only ArenaNet seems able or willing to do that.  But it would be nice for people to see them if they are events.

    default Message regarding Massive PvP

Thank you for heading over here to the boards to continue the discussion.

We are very serious about our Massive Siege PvP system and we became more aggressive on fixing several issues appearing in that regard. The bulk of the feedback can be summarized within two categories: a) Client performance and b) Content and collision.

I would like to say that most of you – our players – most likely have some time to go before you reach the stage where Siege Battles become a daily activity. It is unfortunate that some of these issues have arisen, but it will not be felt personally for most of our players as they will be addressed before you participate in Massive Siege. Funcom and I have a clear policy on focusing clearly and honestly on problems. This will give you predictability and the hopefully will be what you, our customers, see us as a company – clear and open.

    Client Performance

The client performance seems to be the biggest issue. Luckily we already had several improvements of performance styled directly towards the siege battles in the pipeline when we got this feedback. We are confident that we will be able to get these update s to you within a short time. (We hope to get some out as early as on the Monday down-time!)

The improvements will include: a) ways to remove / hide performance impacting particles and sound, b) a more stylized view-distance (shorter and more pvp fitting) in the battle areas to increase framerate c) changes to how certain abilities and spells are being propagated. We are also confident that this fixes will greatly improve the framerate and overall client performance in the Siege Battles.

We will not stop optimizing this until we get to a stage where we are happy that all clients can host / participate in Siege PvP.

    Content and collision

There were other problems with the siege battles as well. Luckily these are less severe in scope and it should be doable to address them all. We already have collision bug fixes for the dynamic collision in these areas on their way.

I hope you understand we do not take this lightly and that we are doing a strong push to address all issues immediately.

You can continue the discussion here.

I had a good laugh about the part bolded and underlined. I do not play AoC, though played AO for a good while since its release. And boy, did that game suffer under exactly that kind of mentality from our good friend Gaute. I wish all you AoC players good luck!

Im gonna get myself in trouble one of these days defending something. It seems you cant come to the aid of a game or person or ideal on these forums without having your heart ripped out and eaten (For all you HoXs out there)

BUT! Why the hate? I think whoever says AoC is a bad game... or that the devs royally screwed the pooch is simply wrong.

Thats my opinion that I will support shortly. I would like to point out that opinions are indeed like asshole... everyone has one. The saying is cliche, rude, and accurate.

Funcom has been fixing bugs, imbalances, and discontinuities left and right since the game has come out. I would like to point out that some of their staff is still working on the 360 version of the game (A mistake in my opinion) but the rest of the team is doing very well for the couple weeks... approaching month... that the game has been out.

I have every bit of faith that they will improve performance in the seiges... just as they fixed the gem bugs... FotD crashes... Demo buffs... overreach (I play a guard)... city building... stats...

    **EDIT**

And to the post above - whats wrong with that? Its bug triage. You fix the things that affects the most players first. I promise you they will fix all the show-stopping bugs... then the ones that afflict ALL players... then MOST players... then ADVANCED players in that order.

The ultimate solution to every problem: more space marines.

Erm... lets put it this way.

    You fix things

    Then you test them

Then you fix few more things

    Then you test it again

And when its working you publish it to players that are paying for the content and the features.

Now get a grip and stop defending a product that would not be accepted anywhere else than in the MMORPG market cause way to many ppl fall for PR stunts instead of actual, working, stable, major bugfree game.

Now - you are directly one of those saying the devs this is perfectly acceptable state of a MMO release.  Its simply isn't - If you dont plan to have features implemented or working at launch then you say so.  Did Funcom do that ?  Nope.  Instead they came out after launch and started the PR talk about all those things they were gonna add in the next 6 months....

Oh ye...  Thats gonna be fixed ? and tested ?.....

5 years and the game is now in this condition.  You really think 6 months will make it better ?  Or Funcom getting better in their PR?

In other words - WE DIDN'T FSCKING TEST OUR GAME AT ALL WE JUST RELEASED IT NOW WE ARE ROLLING IN MONEY, YOU JUST NEED TO KEEP PAYING FOR OUR BROKEN GAME FOR 6 MONTHS WHILE WE FIX IT, K?

apologies for large coloured text, I figured I would "hype" my comment cause apparently some people won't believe anything but hype.

    1) Proof of concept of my first sentence.

    2) Apparently I have more understanding and patience for something new and different than you. Thats fine. Your every bit entitled to a perfect product now. Go wait.

    3) Did you miss the memo? Every person *I* knew had the information that sieges had not been tested, and that the large-scale guild stuff was bound to be buggy as hell. Surprised? Really? I can understand frustration via point 2... but surprise?

    4) Funcom... I suggest you leave these boards to rot. Very few good things have ever come of MMORPG.com Forum posts. I, a troll and a Fanboi simultaeneously (Schroedinger anybody?) have witnessed first hand that this community is FICKLE and IMMATURE.  Nothing you can do will please the beast, and anything you try to do will be demonized and damned. Good luck Funcom.

look - we are mixing two different things. One is entirely subjective - wether or not you are having fun ingame at the moment, and wether you are whilling to continue paying, or wether you are patient to wait out the supposed incoming features - it is entirely up to you, and there is nothing wrong about it.

The wrong thing here is the fact that FC advertised a nonexisting product, and sold something else to the buyers under the pretense it is that nonexisting combat. Just for example, a single week before release, Gaute was assuring everyone how sieges will be etc. By that time, he knew they wont be in.

There is a difference between advertising, where you really bump up the speech about whats good about your product, and not really mention the bad things alot unless someone asks explicitly  - that is called advertising and marketing PR - you tell people why they want to have your product over someone elses.

However, you stay well clear of advertising things that your product doesn't offer, from the simple reason you can get sued for it, and you can get bad customers that spread the word to mouth and thus help your competition.

If you buy a damn bag of sugar, and if the bag says 1 kilo and you go home and you see its 900 grams, you go back to the store and you are entitled to a refund or replacement. If they discover after that that a company has been systematicaly filling 1kg bags with 900 grams of sugar, the company will get sued, witll have their products removed off the shelf, have to pay fines etc. That is how it works, and its a damn less than 1$ bag of sugar. The worth of the products is entirely non important.. It is called false marketing and fraud.

That is what I think most people here are being angry about, and not so much about wether people have fun playing or not, because that differs from person to person and from spec to spec. And this is why I think FC should be getting alot of bad PR even though the game they have is not as bad.
