I know the MMO sandbox genre is kinda small atm so what are most of you guys playing atm?
Have you stuck with Eve online? have you gone to Saga of Ryzom for your skillbased fix?
Maybe playing Single player games with sandbox features like Fallout3, Oblivion, GTA ?
Are you playing themepark mmos until DF or anyother sandbox game comes out?
I'm kind of interested it seeing what the sandbox community is playing since we seem to have been forgotten by most MMO devs.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

Well I'm currently playing EVE for my sandbox fix and AoC for my need to play a game with an avatar instead of a ship. Although my AoC subscription runs out today and I don't think that I'm going to renew. The game seems to be heading in a direction that I don't like with the planned item rebalance making items worth 50% of your characters abilities. Funcom seems to have given in to the EQ/WoW whiners and are making the game another raid-or-die gear-treadmill-grindfest instead of the game relying on player skill like it was supposed to.
I might give Darkfall a look when/if it releases in January, but I pretty much hate High Fantasy settings, so I might just give it a miss. I'm really looking forward to Fallen Earth and Earthrise for my future sandbox MMORPG's and I'm also excited about the ambulation/WiS project for EVE.
I'll play SW:TOR no matter what style of game it is, simply beacause its Star Wars and made by BioWare, my favourite single-player RPG developer. To be honest though, I'd probably play any Star Wars MMO that wasn't tainted by the dreaded SOE.
MMORPG History:
Playing - EVE Online.
Played (Retired) - AO, SWG, MxO, WoW, RFO, SoR, CoX, EQ2, GW, L2, Vanguard, LotRO, AoC, TCoS, Aion.
Favourite MMO - Pre-CU SWG, 3 Years, 4 Accounts, 2 Pre-CU Jedi (1 Pre-9).
Awaiting - Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Secret World, Earthrise.
Well I was on L2 for the longest time, but exhausted everything in that game...I"m playing WoW until Aion comes out...Aion has cutscenes and some instances for major storyline quests (so you don't get interfered with by enemies), but other than that its completely sandbox (with flight too).
This month will be my GTA 4 pc version month, perhaps continue with Farcry 2 which is NOT excactly a sandbox game but more a open-world game or as I like to call it a Action-Sim (28% finished only atm) Might also continue with Fallout, did finish the game but started new but this time with the mod-pack whcih has added plenty of new quest/weapons/characters etc.etc..., a few friends with who'm I played Spore asked if we might get together during the holiday's into Spore again, but undecided yet.
GTA 4 will probebly consume the most time when ever there is some time to play
Eve and Wurm. Both are awesome for me in their own special way.
I play a little Wurm here and there. Been playing Fable 2 also. There doesn't seem to be any games out lately that I wanna play. I been doing other things like practicing guitar and trying to make movies. I been playing games a lot less than i ever have.
Waiting to see whats up with darkfall though
EQ Macintosh edition.
Unfortunately it has PoP.
Fortunately it hasn't been otherwise been touched by SoE (not even for a patch) since 2005.

Forumfall.
I have active subscriptions to Eve, but don't really play and I'm thinking of cancelling them. Beyond that, I'm not playing ANY MMOs as there aren't any good ones out right now. I'm waiting for Christmas because my GF is supposed to be getting me GTA4 for PC. Other than that, I've been reading programming books and jotting down ideas for my own MMORPG that I might be able to one day create, since I can't rely on other people to make a good game for me.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
Mount and Blade.......
Fallout 3..............................
I have tried single player rpg's with sandbox elements. Basically, it just feels too lonely and ultimately pointless if you can't share your experiences with a friend(s).
There are no mmo sandboxes out that really appeals to me. So I'm playing World of Warcraft till something else comes along. My LOTRO account is active but I will try Aion, Chronicles of Spellborn and Darkfall. If one of those grabs my interest, I'll drop the LOTRO account.
I think overall, WOW is the best mmo FOR ME right now. There are just so many people playing that it is very easy to meet people, get a group and make friends, and community is really important to me.
Still playing a little Fallout 3, but I've just about worn that game out...until the good player mods start showing up.
Have considered playing EVE or Ryzom, but it's hard to get into an older MMO with an established community, so I don't know.
Keeping my eye on all the skill based MMOs in development. Not really following any of them though, just going to wait and see how things turn out. To be honest though, I'm not very optimistic...
not really, i been playing eve for the last two months, i see tons of noobs. So it's not just top heavy like other games (eq2 for example)
Lineage 2 and Viva Pinata. Yea, I said Viva Pinata. Awesome game
Playing Fallout 3 mostly atm. I'm waiting to see how the Darkfall drama pans out and if it's any good I'll be playing that. If not I'll be giving up on MMOs until something decent gets released. That may be a long wait indeed. I'll probably be playing STO eventually but that is still a year or more away at this point.

Lately I've been playing Fallout 3. Normally I'm not into the post apoc shooter genre, but here is a world that is very open. It doesn't really force you to play a certain way, you play the game how you want.
If you don't like an NPC you can kill them, steal from them, ect. And sometimes the other NPCs are smart enough to notice this. Just beware there are consequence to all actions good or bad. If you attack someone in a city, the other residents may not be so friendly and may even fire on you.
SPOILER
For instance if you kill Moriarty in Megaton, Nova is smart enough to see this and will take over the bar from now on. Since she's in charge she no longer sleeps with clients with Moriarty gone who forced her to do such things. (as a side note, Jerhico tells you Moriarty has a key on him, that opens up a drawer or something that he supposedly keeps next to his bed. I'm able to get the key, but I can't unlock the cabinet? is this a bug?)
I never quite fully got into Oblvion, but if its gameplay is as open as this, I may consider getting back into it.

Oblivion is even more open. There are many more story driven quest series in Oblivion and you can still play after "winning" the game. Something that the developers have been chastised for by the community in regards to Fallout 3. Don't get me wrong... I love Fallout 3 but Oblivion just had so much more to it. I still have Oblivion on my hard drive and play it quite often... Something I just can't say about most games that old. Hell, I still play Morrowind on my laptop now and then.
Edit: One thing that they did do much better in Fallout 3 than in Oblivion or Morrowind is the NPCs. In Oblivion especially the NPCs seem much more stiff and scripted. They don't react quite as smartly as they do in your Moriarty/Nova example above. Once you kill a NPC shopkeeper in Oblivion the shop is just there with no one to do business with from that point on. The NPCs only interaction with each other is some scripted dialog if they happen to run into each other somewhere in the game. This does get rather old when you hear the same conversation for the 100th time. I just usually tune them out while playing.

Eve is really the only sandbox mmo worth playing atm. I go back every now and again.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
I play Ultima Online.
Playing: League of Legends!
I'm spending most of my time on a UO player run shard. I'll occasionally hop on WOW when I need my 3d graphics fix.
Currently Playing: DAOC Uthgard
Previously Played: UO, DAOC, Shadowbane, AC2, SWG, Horizons, COX, WOW, EQ2, LOTRO, AOC, WAR, Vanguard, Rift, SWTOR, ESO, GW2.
I play the most polished game out at the moment, and that actually has players in it, which is WOW.
However, not a moment goes by that I miss some of the more hardcore elements of early EQ. I got an email that EQ will come out with a new server and that it might be classic or progression, depending upon how players vote on it.
If it is classic, I will play that game, despite the ancient graphics, and depending upon, of course, they haven't WOW-i-fied the game with a minimal death penalty and unexplainable porting (i.e., POK).
was looking for the sandbox fix, after SWG (since NGE came out) tried out ryzom didnt quit fix it... played UO p-shard for a while then went into Guild Wars for the longest time... then its dying. so now i went on eve and its working for me, i am liking it very much. in fact i may go out on a limb and say that it has really atracted me the way the pvp system works. And for those who say that noobs get ganked, i never ran into a pvp without looking for it...
so now im in EVE Online for my sandbox fix and GuildWars for my bipedal humanoid fix, though that might change with ambulation
EVE.
