Fantasy MMORPGs, as opposed to a bloody truck vs a sedan, are pretty much similar.

Granted you can change something here and there, but not too much. It will still have (more or less) the same UI, the same fluffy dragons burning your ass and the same skill spammage with your keyboard/mouse while moving around, killing random mobs or players.

A good sandbox MMORPG(see RPG, not CS-on-huge-maps), could probably get 500k+ subscription and that would be very good in my eyes. As for themeparked MMOs with the generic leveling/end-game and some random bosses/PvP on the way...WoW will never be dethroned here. It has done pretty much everything in this segment.

  • I honestly don't see Aion having much more of an impact on WoW than WAR/AoC did, at least not in the west.

No WoW-like game will ever beat WoW, or even make a real dent in its numbers.

Why?  People who play WoW like it, and there's no reason for them to quit WoW and go to another WoW-like game.

I will agree with the title of this thread. For the foreseeable future no game will beat WoW. Certainly not Aion, and its developers are down to earth enough to have claimed the same.

I did find funny what I quoted. You see, I'm from Greece and it never crossed my mind that Darkfall should have more subscriptions than WoW in this country just because it is based here. This is a global market and good games are played from anyone that likes them, regardless of where they originate.

Well, with all dungeon bosses like that, you sure will not be challenged.

Btw: this IS the Korean style of PVE bosses. Just look at Lineage 2. Tank 'n Spank.

Blizzard made an art out of PVE Raids these days. From easy to hard, but at least ... WE MOVE.

And the funny thing is, most people are spamming threads with: ZOMG WOW IS TOO EASY SO IM MOVIN TO A REAL HARD GAME LIEK AION. I honestly didn't see a boss with reactive abilties. Even Rune of Magic seems to have harder PvE.

Hell I think it's been over ever since the South Park episode. WoW  now has the crown and can not be dethroned. But then again I may be wrong and this may be a cycle. However WoW is certainly not going anywhere.

So one game sells better then the other? Im curious as in why you have to post that? Its not as if you are taking part in that competition, because you are not Blizzard. It is not your success.

Yes because all mmo's fall to time. Having said that the biggest thing that is unique is not WoW vs. all others but next year WoW will be conceivably against several contenders and Star Wars would seem be the justified biggest threat. If you can't see where the threat is, then do your homework and don't bother trolling.

As mmorpg.com staffer Richard Aihoshi already said, subscriptions don't really account for much since subscriptions DO NOT equal active members in a game. I also wouldn't be too proud about the servers in Korea given Korea (1) does have laws that allow for RMT (ask any Lineage player) and (2)RMT is as big an industry in Korea as it is in China. Only difference us you have more players in China than Korean and yea, feel free to throw in China's 1 billion plus population as a possible explanation.

What I can see WoW's biggest advantage though overall is a simplified PvP system that works. And if you have to ask what I meant by "simplified", try Eve-online for 5 days and see if you survive... PvP'ing in WoW while tricky isn't as complicated and doesnt feel like rocket science as is the case in other games.

  • ThenariusThenarius Member Posts: 1,106

PvP in EVE is rocket science? Ok, I'll take that but EVE and WoW got 2 different styles of PvP. EVE's based around planning at first, over ship superiority and other "pre-settings" while WoW is based around individual reactions and ability to adapt vs other abilities. It's a whole different thing.

For the second type of PvP, WoW will stay as the best. Take it another way: are you sure a 3v3 of EVE players will get 2600 rating in WoW?

  • XasapisXasapis Member RarePosts: 6,337

There is a difference between the hype that's originated by blind fanboys claiming the next game to be released to be the WoW-killer and the company claiming the same. NCsoft so far has been pretty modest as far as Aion is concerned.

By the way, this type of thread is kind of sad to respond to. Same like the threads "XX game will kill WoW" that pop up every time a game is about to enter the open beta phase.

I have my Mercedes SLE with WOW. You are just pretending you drive the Mercury instead you use grandma's bike. :))

You have to cite and combine  ALL other fantasy mmo's to have half of the features WOW 2009 gives me.

And then add some ... let's start: .... perfect fluid fast responsive controls for your avatars fight....

See?  it is that simple. Discussion closed.

{mod edit} Truth is, its not the game that disgusts me its the poor bastards that have been sucked into this void of mindless, unoriginal boredom.

I have fun with my Mercedes, sorry you feel frustrated by WOW. :)))

I didnt say frustrated i said disgusted. And again the game doesnt disgust me its the blizz worship practiced by those that defend the game no matter how silly it becomes. Can anyone tell me how a game with space travelers and the tetechnology to build helicopters and motorcycles cannot develop a weapon more advanced than a black powder rifle? Ive also wondered why the space travelers use clubs instead of ray guns. Im sure there is a reasonable explanation for it somewhere within the deep lore of Warcraft.

WoW has lasted a while, but i don't think it can remain the dominant MMO forever. Theres a world full of potential out there, wow holds a loyal following sure, is it a good game? yes, i think it is. But after a while, people will just start craving something new. I played WoW only for a few months myself, from december of 08 and quit playing sometime around february. After i made it to level 80 and doing the same raids over and over, i realized that i needed something new myself, and so i quit wow. I'm currently waiting for something new (particularly guild wars 2), but if something else catches my eye, i might give it a shot. I'm sure theres a few people that agree with me somewhat on this point. All i know is that playing anything for too long can get old. It can, and probably will, happen to wow one day. When it does, people will just migrate to something else.

    What a poster again. :(.

I highlighted the blue, just in case you didn't found the errors in his post.

He started in december 08 ... and quit in February  after and I quote reaching 80 "... doing some raids over and over again..."

Welcome friend, you are about the 265th I found lying in these WOW forums. Sure you will not be the last to piss on Wow.

And then they ask why  :))))

im not sure if you leveled a toon latelly but if he played a bit its fairly easy to level to 80 and have done lot of raid in 3 month lol

1 to 60 can be leveled so easy wow had too add a system for player that wants to lock their level why!

they didnt need to go to dungeon anymore and missed the best lore in wow

i doont recall the exact time but if i recall athene level from 1 to 80 in 48 hours if i recall corectly or somewhere around that

so a noob like me could easyly level to 60 withing say a week ,3 weeks hes 80 or has been raiding a while

did you know  i raided ankiraj about the time he was leving his toon (i was level 57

i dont see any lie in his post

Tell me why Jedi Knights come out of space ships and use sabres ?!?!?

Tell me why you worshipped Warhammer and you  can have Gyrocopters in that  Lore and Dwarf tanks (in the TT version at least - because in the MMO you had to IMAGINE you were flying).

    See the frustration rising :))))

I worshipped Warhamer?  Ive played several MMO's and enjoyed some of them but worship is not something i feel toward any of them. My max toon in War is i think 21. Keep slugging away champ, maybe someday you can convince yourself that aliens fly in spaceships and yet club their enemies with ancient weapons. As why for light sabres its a tradition of the Jedi if i remember my lore correctly.  I guess you have no answer as to the motorcycles and helicopters either. Yeah, WOW pretty much sucks in the lore dept. as well as in general.

Wow im not lying....why would i lie? My character name was Thaeron and i played an affliction warlock on misha server part of the guild Mishan Impossible. It was fairly easy to level to 80 in just like 2 months of focusing on quests. but whatever...

Motorcycles and helicopters are invented by the gnomes Ir's. it is their tradition and you already find tanks and mobile engines as long as the Lore of Warcraft exists.

It baffles me you can accept Star Wars spaceships that beam down other spaceships with nucleair ammunition, while a Jedi knight fights with sabres when they come out of their cockpits...

Wow you pretty much XXX  when talking about your WOW frustrations.

I bet the alien technology was all destroyed in the crash and they all also have amnesia from bumping their heads and cant remember how to replace it so it kinda threw them all back into the stoneage. Maybe with the next xpac the gnomes will come up with space travel as well so the blue guys with tails can all go home and re learn their technology and come back and blow up the orcs and undead. Just an idea but im sure Blizz has a much better explanation. Im really disappointed that you do not know this stuff.

Actually, its not an issue of "can it be done", it is more of an issue of "Can one do it and enjoy the game?". The answer is no.

He says he played from December 08 to February. That is, at most, 8 weeks. Since December is a holiday period and also you take into account all of the maintenance days and everything else, you are left with about 6 weeks total. Now granted that is a long time and one can level in that time but I doubt that one could enjoy the game and experience everything WOW has to offer.

My thought is he either got powerleveled (and by the way, your comment about Athene has no place here and you should know why) or he used mods to help him level like QuestHelper.

What I think happened is a combination of both, he rushed to 80 to raid and grew bored with the game. Remember, the context of his post is that WOW grew old and boring so we are not talking running Naxx 2 or 3 times. In addition to that, we are not talking PVP, crafting, doing a lot of instances along the way, etc....

So I do not think its lies either, its just that, in my opinion, if one rushes to level 80 and then complains about growing bored, they only have themself to blame

i laugh at your people and your ignorance. I enjoyed the game the entire time i played it. and yes i did have time to do naxx more than a few and even tried out malygos once or twice. Simply because i got bored of the game after i started doing raids does not mean i rushed through and did not enjoy the content that the game had to offer. I had alot of time on my hands those few months. I've been going to college and during that particular time i didn't work or have school so i didn't have much else to do during that time. The game lacked much to do after 80 but the same couple of raid dungeons repeatedly. i already posted what i could to make my point seem valid, but i really hate it when people call me a liar. I have different tastes than you, and though i leveled fast, it does not mean i did not stop to enjoy the scenery. Yes i did crafting, yes i did pvp, and yes i did alot of instances as well. I had a dedicated group of friends that i played with. Look up my character if you wish, but please, do not call me a liar or bash me again simply because i had a different opinion.

Obviously i achieved something in a faster time than you and it makes you feel less superior. I'm not calling myself better than you in any way but  I'm sorry if you feel that you must insult me for that.

Dude, your opinion is fine and I totally respect that. You can play however you want and that is cool. All I am saying is that some comments just don't make a lot of sense to me (like saying you grew bored and there was nothing to do at level 80 but then saying you did a lot of stuff) and just looking for some clarification is all.

ok for clarification, i maxed out my crafting skills, played through the raids, and went through all the bgs and wintergrasp. After all was said and done, i just felt like i needed a change of scenery. It was alot of work and alot of fun, but people started taking the game to seriously, i didnt feel like i wanted to level another toon to 80 just for the game to lose its fun appeal. The process of getting there was fun, but when people started acting the way they did, ruining whole raid groups just cuz they wouldn't get promoted to raid leader (even though my friend started the group), etc., i just thought it wasnt worth it in my end to get to the same point where things became repetitive and lost its entertainment value. It became more like a job than a source of enjoyment after a while.

can we just get along and stop arguing now :(
