What were they thinking?

I could see making a MMO, and porting it to console, but it seems to be a console game ported to PC.. the UI is laggy, clunky and built for consoles. and the game will suffer, there are hardly any quests.. HUGE GAPS in quests.. from level 6 to 10, you will be farming rats.. cause you wont have any quests.

i started in the port city on the island, i've ran the whole island, and all there is to fight solo is rats, sure there are crabs and stuff. but you need a group and isnt really worth the effort.

there are no cool secret areas like other games have, no "lore" important areas that fit.. just seems to be a procedurally generated world that is bland, that being said, graphics are about on par with age of conan.

but i dont know why they even bother making it in english, i still get errors and wierd icons pop up in japaneese.  too much intensive clicking. UI not friendly at all.

takes about 5 minutes to get loot from a monster, and key commands to attack are delayed to where you just spam buttons and hope they execute. I have a uber pc and its not any lag on my end. and you cant say.. its just beta. while it is, things like this arent to be expected because certain games have had beta's that could have been released and would have been more polished.

guilds are called linkshells, why? quests are called leves, why? the only thing i was excited about was the intro music on the start screen.. the cutscenes look truly japaneese, with mouths moving and text popping up. but i'd rather have them not move at all cause mouths moving with no sound just are awkward.

i've been playing FF games since the very first, and sems like every iteration gets more strange, and farther away from their roots, too much experimentation...

who is going to like this? i am in love with dragoons and the final fantasy universe but even that is not enough to make this a purchase for me.

there is NO POINT to this game, the quests arent even linked in anyway its just random, kill this for no reason, then it just ends with no explanation of why you did what you did, or what to do next, or what the whole game world is about.  the race divide in the game would be great for pvp, which alone would be a reson why people would buy it, but since it seems the fanbois are adamantly against it, they probably wont put it in until they have to, once they see kotor online draining players away from this game.

maybee you can help me, why is this game here? what is the point story wise, i've yet to see any coherent story telling going on aside from the first quest and even that gave no explanation why you were doing what you were doing.

theres no reason to not have pvp, its an added element that could break the monotony of farming mobs, which there will be plenty of. you could say its a pve game, but it can have pvp at no cost to the pve element, if done correctly, why are people so afraid of pvp? its all consentual and you dont have to participate if you want to farm rats for days.

some abilities like, heavy thrust, whats the point? it takes more stamina and adds a "bind" effect yet i dont see what this effect even does. its not a root effect cause the monster can still move.

I don't know about all the rest of the stuff you said, but as for why people hate pvp I have an easy answer. Once you add pvp to a game the devs must then balance the classes according to pvp and pve. That usually causes lots of balancing issues. You may ahve an ability that works great in pve, but once taken over to pvp it is greatly over powered and must be decresed in power. Now you are altering the ability in pve and possibly making it near useless. A game that is pure pve and has a pve heavy fanbase should shy away from pvp to keep most of its players happy.

couldnt they just change the way the ability worked in pvp? and why balance it for pvp? they dont have to, if it doesnt work in pvp, disable it for pvp. thats what wow does, thats why you cant cast curse of doom on players. problem solved.

Becuase when there is PvP there is CONSTANT complaining about balance.  That means you have to devote resources to balancing.  That means that those are resources NOT going into the PvE game.  Here's what I don't understand.  There are a TON... No wait, metric SHIT TON of games with PvP.  If you want PvP go play one of those games.  When devs try to put PvP into PvE focused games the PvP sucks and the PvE suffers and no one wins.

not really, pve doesnt HAVE to suffer because of pvp, its just been done wrong a lot of time, and regardless, people will always find ways to complain about something, that doesnt mean they shouldnt impliment something because people will whine..

you dont have to balance pve around pvp, just add it and if people dont like it they dont have to play it. look at conan, a completely unbalanced pvp based game. and people still play it.

look at wow, a relatively and i use that term very loosely, balanced game for both pvp and pve.

shadowbane was a pve/pvp game, worked fine.

all they have to do is disable the pve abilities in pvp that make it unbalanced, or just not care, either way people are going to whine about something.

i hate grinding and i hate crafting but i love final fantasy, so at least let me take my frustration out by killing other people.

and whats the point of heavy thrust? i've ran across some abilities that would be great for pvp, and dont even work in pve..

and the whole thing seems clunky, why does my guy take 5 seconds to stop and go into combat mode, and the same for leaving combat mode, why cant i type /stand.. why cant i have a hotkey for sitting?

there are so many areas they seemed to have dropped the ball.

Does anyone play beta to test a game anymore?

also, i have a sword and shield icon with japaneese text next to it i have no idea why its there.

the whole process of talking to someone and using a vendor is completely unintuitive.

what is the "bind" effect applied by heavy thrust? if its a root effect it doesnt work and theres really no point if it did work because i get at max range for my polearm and enemies are still able to melee me.

I assume you never tried the other FF online.. you think this UI is clunky and built for consoles.  This one is a great improvement over the old.  IMHO.

  • mmjarecmmjarec Member Posts: 65

so they are sticking with a clunky UI just because it was like the last one? whats wrong with using one that works better? just because its a sequel doesnt mean it has to use the same things, especially ones which dont work.

I see the root of your problem, this game isn't a WOW clone, never intended itself to be, and defintiely caters to the niche market that enjoyed FFXI.

True, it has issues, but it appears playing with a controller is going to be the way to go, even for a PC.

Probably not the game for you. (or me either for that matter)

That's the feeling I got when I got into beta a few months back. That's also primarily why I didn't do much beta testing with it. I never could get used to the gamepad setup they had for the PC. While I did get to mark off playing a FFMMO on my "bucket list" I was sad to see that I wouldn't get to play it for very long.

Wait, you mean clicking "buy" or "sell" wasn't intuitive enough?

And you do understand almost everything your stating is your own opinion, which we're all entitled too (God help us all), mixed with ignorance of the game, so formulating any sort of response will just become a "No your dumb!" "No you're a butthead!" "I know you are but what am I?" shouting match...

That being said bind doesn't work if you hit the enemy afterwards, its more of a "hit this ability then run away" move, continuing to attack a bound mob will un-bind it...

So binding it, then moving to max range of a polearm so it cant hit you, the second you hit it again it'll just move closer or use a ranged ability.

SE doesn't really care much for PvP regardless of how badly anyone ever wants it.

The ui is a modified version of FFXI's, which has been going for 8 years now and has worked fine for that game's community, so why would, from SE's perspective, need to make a bran new one to fix the "Broken" one.

Storywise, it's still beta and they probably won't add much of it while in beta, but I bet it involves a crystal, and God(s), and an effeminate villain, trying to destroy the world.

And quests are in the same boat as "story," they all serve as immersion or storyline or subplots so there aren't too many of them while in beta.

The lag in ui and npc's is due to the bug tracking programs, other beta programs running in background, or code conflicts because again it's still beta and things have been speeding up since alpha, and will probably continue to speed up once release hits...

There, I tried my best to answer the questions, let the flamming begin!

I never said it was a wow clone, nor did i want it to be, but only an idiot doesnt learn from the success and failures of others, and i guess since its using a modified FF11 UI, thats their first problem. i dont see why they are using a UI that has so many issues to begin with, do they not have enough time or money or skill to code one that doesnt suck? and theres more to it than clicking buy/sell. its the fact it feels like my mouse is dragging thru mud. and. yeah why make it for the pc if its intented to be played on a controller. the whole PC gaming community is suffering because they decided to make it a console game. and its obvious. i'd rather have a decent version of the game, with one operating system, than a half arsed version on two operating systems, but i guess instead of making a stellar game they are just trying to make some extra money. which is why i am so frustrated with whomever is making this game. pick a platform and stick with it, or else as we have alread seen, it will suffer.

  • Mad+DogMad+Dog Member UncommonPosts: 785

The UI is a bit crap, come on it is...

So is the laggy feel to the mouse due to it being beta and it traking bugs? you got a link to prove it?

  • EdeusEdeus Member CommonPosts: 506

But silly you, SE is a Japanese company, and Japanese don't give a SHIT about the success or failure of a game in overseas markets.  The majority of japanese gamers play with a gamepad on PC, Apple, PS3, whatever.  Therefore SE doesn't really care too much about non gamepad users (though they feign interest).

They also don't give a SHIT about other, more successful games.  If you play their games, you're playing a SE brain child to the core!

The mouse feeling like it's going through mud is from it being a software driven, instead of hardware driven, mouse program.  So the more lag you have, the more muddy the mouse feels.  The lag of the ui and npc's however is a whole nother matter.
