Internal Bulletin leaked

zimmy910zimmy910 Member UncommonPosts: 190

A rather disturbing internal CCP bulletin has been leaked. It's called Greed is good !

http://www.evenews24.com/2011/06/22/greed-is-good-purportedly-leaked-internal-bulletin-shows-ccps-refreshing-new-direction/

Make of it what you want. Since it's pretty much in line with what we have witnessed over the past two years, and sources close to CCP have confirmed this to be legit, I would think it is.

No it is not.   It is just a bunch of more BS from players that are upset that CCP is doing Incarna.

I hope it is legit, EVE Online have not had a big scandal for a very long time now.

Oh yeah, that fits the IP very well.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Dude, you have been hit head on by the troll train.

Go read the actually pdf and maybe the eve-o thread?

Their internal newsletter and all the ones that were released usually have a comedy title like that and are brutally honest on how they feel about the playerbase.

If you had been following the last leak over the last summer you would have seen the part where they said they wouldn't be focusing on core game features for ~18 months~ and there was a huge public outcry and dip in subscriptions.

How about the quote about how "the data does not support the assumption that polish features sell better than a constant stream of new content?

  • TorlukTorluk Member Posts: 162

The thread on their official forums about this is growing at quite a rapid rate.  Seems like there are a lot of understandable concerns among the playerbase.

If the document is real then it is a sad day for the genre in my opinion, no denial yet from CCP afaik.

Yes we are in fact buying this. The title is a sort of typical joke sort of thing CCP do.

We also have CSM delegates saying they saw this newsletter while they where at CCP (linky seleene a couple posts down).

CSM 5 members are confirming this as true, and saying it's why they quit EVE at the end of the last CSM.

I do not know if it is real and i will not speculate.

However if it is true I am glad i left EVE.

    Waiting for: WoD

Yes. And if anybody would bother to read what Seleene is writing they would realize that while the name and format of the newsletter is correct the actual content might be heavily modified. As described by TeaDaze (another former CSM delegate) later in the thread you linked.

Besides, as Malcanis point out, what other source refers to an Economic and Microtransaction summit that CCP supposely should have held/participated in Reykjavik?

I'm not trying to white knight EVE here but I find the reactions of people here a bit over the top.

So what if they decide to sell a $60 cosmetic gimmick in EVE?

Does that some how ruin your gameplay?

I would never spend that kind of money on a video game item let alone something cosmetic....

but that doesn't mean there aren't video gamers out there that happen to have loads of disposable income.

I'm pretty anti-rmt myself... but a few cosmetic items for sale never really bothered me.

If somebody wants to flaunt their wealth by buying a monocle let them I say lol...

The drama that this is creating is a joke.

If THIS is what makes people leave EvE, they weren't gonna stick around anyway. They would have just found something else to cry about and declare their subscription cancelled.

    Oh, the horror !

Who'd have thought that CCP would would try to make more money ? Seriously ?

Internet gamers love drama. It creates a "legit" reason to vent, insult and throw tantrums. Many people will extrapolate the basic concepts listed in the document to predict the usual apocalyptic end-scenario. The sky is falling, the sky is falling !

Anyone that deludes themselves into thinking that RMT discussions are not currently ongoing in the management team of EVERY MMO currently in existence (or in development), is in for a rude shock. It is the way of the future. Why ? Because it makes more money for the developers/publishers.

EVE is still the most complex MMO on the market, and the best "sandbox" game we have atm. Until THAT changes, my subs will remain active.

The only thing CCP did that I really disliked was the garbage of the $99 license fee - even for websites that collected donations in ISK for the purpose of the players providing the service a way to be compensated for all their hard work.  As  for this bruhaha about MT and Incarna in general, I do not see an issue as long as CCP keeps to their word and doesn't add "buy-to-win" items in their MT they can sell gold plated Tengu's in their store for all I care.  :)

Just keep the updates coming!  I want more Incarna!  More walking in stations!

Haha, now I have actually read the bulletin and must conclude it is genuine enough... simple because its content is not bad at all when I read it like all the bulletins I receive from my company executives. In fact, the ones we produce contains  much more marketing mumbo-jumbo and short sighted predictions.

As usual it is a lot of grand thoughts (especially the part about WoD) and I am pretty pleased that the thoughts of both a CCP dev for and against virtual goods sales are being presented. The reality of the MMO industry is one moving towards more virtual good sales which we find evidence every day when another MMO goes "free" to play. In fact CCP tries to break the normal virtual goods sales trend by demanding that all goods should be re-sellable/transferable within the game allowing people who only want to spend virtual money on virtual goods access to them too.

After having tried a MMO which incorporated virtual sales for good (not EVE) I have come to realize that it not necessarily a game breaker. In that game buying your way to success just made you bored quicker and made you leave making room to those of us who played slow but for free.

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

It would be great if there would be more competition within this market segment. It would ensure good quality products and people could turn to the next best game if the previous one turned bad. Eve certainly hasn't had any serious competition.

From a nice, down to earth indie dev to the likes of Blizzard-Activision....

CCP has grown too big for it's own good, sadly. :(

  • hcosminhcosmin Member Posts: 45

I don't mind microtransactions in F2P games and arguebly it is the way forward for most MMOs that aren't WoW and aim to make money but you really have to be a special kind of moron to keep paying for EvE if they maintain a monthly subscription and start selling ships and shit on their MT store as the one dev proposed.

Ok so they want to switch to a MT model then open it up for free to play and give the people who pay subscription premium stuff already like all the other games that switched.

And $10-$60 prices for clothing that nobody gets to see in a one room single player enviroement ? Cripes.

  • hfztthfztt Member RarePosts: 1,401

The CSM fucked up when they stopped CCP from just plain out sell skill points. If CCP could sell skill points for $ they really would not need any other revnue stream.

    Just saying.

But oooooh, noooo. Buying skill point would be bad be course that would mean that the (imho equally unfair) advantage old chars have in the game over new ones, would be in jeopardy.

    Idiots. CSM 5 that is...

  • TealaTeala Member RarePosts: 7,627

I added my two cecnts to this ideal of adding buy-to-win items in their MT on my blog.   Feel free to read it and comment.

CCP will, in the end, will do the right thing. <<< clicky

True or not I don't really care.  I was a fanboi once.  I played the game for 7+ yrs before I saw CCP for what they really are.  If you think they really care about the player base then your as blind as I was.  If what is written is true, then who cares, I don't blame a company for wanting to make more money, but that just goes to show that they aren't doing as well as the current group of fanbois want to believe.

Since I stopped playing a few yrs ago, I have been getting come back to eve emails every other month.  I even asked to be removed from their email list and I still get them.  They aren't making enough profit from the current model so they are looking for other income streams.  Hence the RMT as well as the constant barrage of "Come Back" emails they send.

CCP has had one vision for EVE and if you were in beta like I was, you know most likely what that vision for the game was.  It has never come to be, YET, but they are slowly pushing towards it and once they have other ways to get revenue coming in besides subs, you will see them make many more changes since they wont really need to worry about losing subs.  Having alternate revenue streams really frees up companies to care even less about what players want and do more of what they want.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

I'm pretty sure I missed the memo where a company was supposed to care about me before I would play their game.
