You should have swallowed your bile and not posted anything at all.
What you showed in that post is exactly the kind of behaviour that alienates players by bashing the victim and not the wrong do-er. This gets you tagged as a fanboy or a zealot or whatever and brings your game a bad reputation. You say that the poster on the MO forums wanted sympathy, but whatever might have been his reason, he surely did not deserve your hate.
By the way, where is the "official" coverage for this event? I thought steps were being taken to undo the mistakes the mmorpg posters have committed on this game by posting official videos and the like (or links to said material on the SV forums) to show how well made this game is? But why hasnt the OP (SV's part time artist), SV's GM or even Rohn not posted anything since this event was concluded? Is everything allright, barring the fact that its the weekend and SV peeps arent working right now to be making "official" posts here?

Oh it's being worked on. It takes a hell of a lot of time editing out all the glitches and people using exploits.
If as everyone says the decisions were taken out of Theia's hands then I feel very bad for him indeed as he has been made a scapegoat for some other jackass. That seems incredibly unprofessional to me. There was no favoritism to AQ, they just took advantage of a situation that should never have come to pass, but any of us would have done the same.
The idea for the event is great, but what is becoming increasingly annoying is how lax MO organization is. Anyone with half a brain cell could have told you that AQ was going to win that FFA, you only had to log into IRC and see the number of people they had logged in to know that they were going to steamroller that event.
Also, the lack of communication was staggering. Players sat up for hours to be involved in that event and many were just overlooked, or even just screwed over (Like players waiting for the final being ported outside in front of a crowd of people waiting at the exit to die and lose all their shit). The winners should have all got something at the end, all they actually got was a chance to be lag killed, killed whilst crashed, or just ganged up on. How is that a prize for waiting patiently, without complaint? All Star Vault is doing is reinforcing the idea that playing by the rules and doing things correctly in this game only gets screwed over.
The bottom line is, they are sending out a bad, unprofessional message to this player-base. If the GM's and the staff don't even follow their own rules, why should the players? If this kind of screw up happened in a more intensive business environment, people would get fired for incompetency. In MO however, the customers get told to appreciate the effort and shut the hell up, or leave and this is a big problem with this game, no one has any time for criticism, the attitude is simply "go play somewhere else if you don't like it". As long as that attitude continues there will be fuck-ups like yesterday.

aq started doing that once they realised all the other guilds were doing it.

What a giant joke, specially the attempts to twist the event into positive light by theia in the post above. Interesting thing thou, Discords account seems to be gone?!
Last night was for some in the support team (myself perhaps most) an extreme white-knuckle ride that will be at the fore in future event design and not forgotten. The scenario of the event (twelve teams with one going forward from each group to form a team of ‘heroes’) was there to explicitly draw as diverse a team as possible from the community. In an attempt to increase the fairness and avoid the perception of bias the teams were rolled randomly. For some matches there were a relatively larger number of people in the same guild, for other matches the team make-up was more diverse. In both cases, the final makeup of each team was determined by the actual attendence of players, it being the case that all of the teams had at least some missing members. Whilst that ‘randomness’ can in itself be unfair I hope everyone in the community can see that from inception, the goal was to try and give everyone a shot at the sword, the randomness, transparency and split groups being key to this. FFA was an additional attempt to stop one guild dominating and then ideally the final conclusion with Malturn would be all the more shared and enter the lore and history of the game. Clearly this did not work fully as it was intended.
It became immediately apparent at the start of the first round that the event design, whilst thought through for a long time, was seriously flawed. That is my fault and for it and any distress it has caused, I am sorry. Because of that flaw the Support Team was then placed in the truly impossible position of having to make short-notice, in-flight changes that frankly, through no fault of their own, unfolded to be deeply unfair to some who fought. The fall-out due to this was understandable and communicated very clearly on all channels. In fact, every channel; for the intense heat that the support team endured, for many hours, again I am sorry.
Do I blame those individuals who did not play or bent to almost breaking point the rules? I do not. The ambiguous FFA element (ironically introduced to bring fairness to the selection process) and the almost apparent (if not directly communicated) potential of the reward stoked this across the board.
Lessons have been learned that will help and change future events. To be clear that this has been taken on-board, let me spell out some of the issues from the event.
The Bad
FFA does not work, clearly, without far more thought and effort being put into either ‘coding in fairness’ or far more water-tight design to help both the individuals or teams and the GM team not have ambiguity on any mechanic or rule that has to be revised in-flight.
Elements of this were discussed in the aftermath with Henrik noting that the Arena is large by design to allow chariot racing in the future, but clearly we need a smaller inner-area for these types of combats as well as structural changes that avoid some of the more painful flights we witnessed – that will now come.
The way the FFA was setup could have been changed in design to avoid this in several ways team death-match and then last man standing to mention but one of the many solutions that 20:20 hind sight present.
The Good
For many (not everyone) the community FFA at the end of part one helped prove the Arena can be used for larger events -- we collectively observed at least two issues that will be looked it in detail and we hope will markedly impact performance as well as enable another jump in the usability of this and other nodes.
The Sword.
So the first unique weapon has entered the lore of living memory in Nave and thus will be so reflected in the annals and Chronicles of Nave in obvious ways and some less so as well. Many who participated will see and feel the effects of this..
In the coming days as the remains of the event are picked over I hope you will realise that we tried our hardest for a fair and open event and will work hard to ensure that Part II of the Epic Weapons Campaign is more interesting and fun with the depth we are trying to weave into the world. Less outcry would be a goal too. To Cyde – I applaud your win. To those who for and through not fault of their own had a rough ride – again I am sorry. And to those who sent in good advice as well as sympathies and thanks – I am grateful as is the team for your support.
Again – I hope for and will work towards future events as well as Epic Events being more fair and less contentious – whilst remaining as diverse and containing as many unique and entertaining moments as possible.

For me the interesting thing is that they can continue to screw up like this, make no ammends with the player base or attempt to fix it then ask "Why all the hate for MO and SV?".
They keep royaly upsetting players and pushing them over to the "hater" side, then ask why so many haters and it just has me doubled over in laughter.
I truly feel sorry for all the fans and supporters of this game. To keep having faith in the game and company in spite of everything wrong and that seems to keep going wrong is a credit to your loyalty.
Having said that, at what point do you demand accountability from the people involved? Can you honestly still tell people the game is worth the subscription cost?
A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true...
I told you so. While it did not have a princess, it certainly was not the event it was hyped to be. I am a bit sad that the original post was deleted so I can not go to the place where I and some unnamed GM bookmarked to comment on the event afterwards. It would have been nice to paste some of the quotes that he and other players of the game have on the event. While I applaud the SV team for trying, it really shows a lack of managerial practice. You can not just let a few GMs get together in a room sharing a pizza and expect them to come up with "The biggest event in MO history" (to quote from the initial post that was deleted).
This is the whole issue with SV, unprofessional actions and a severe lack of preparation. They try and do something good but only screw it up and make matters worse. It really shows the desperation in the company when you have to send GM's to other forums and force poorly planned events in an effort to keep the doors open and keep players from leaving.

Why is DISCORD not showing up as a Mod/Admin in that post?
I went and looked at it on the site and his name is now black (as in deleted) and he shows no posts?
All I saw in the post (which may or may not have really been DISCORD as his name looks deleted) slightly related was this: Do I blame those individuals who did not play or bent to almost breaking point the rules? I do not.
I personally would say that a guild admitting to directly healing your guildmates is pretty far PAST the breaking point. No ambiguity involved. That is blatant cheating and DIRECTLY against the posted rules. But heck, I guess getting the sword in the end makes everything worthwhile!

There was this game I played for 15 days. It was called Mortal Online. I purchased a digital copy and subscription; dropped about 40 USD on it. I was accused of Speedhacking and Forcibly causing another player's death. The GM told me that I would be banned for 7 days, but instead it turned out that I was permanently banned from the game. To this day, I do not regret being FALSELY accused and banned from the piece of sh*t. StarVault is a terrible company, and Mortal Online is an incomplete excuse of a game.
I pray for the swift and unmerciful death of Mortal Online. Or if the company sold the game to a different developer...I'd give it another shot.
Is that even legal? I would have raised hell over that BS.

Most MMOs make you sign EULA stating that you just "borrow" your account (thou SV "borrowed" EvEs EULA for this purpose, heh) and they can do whatever they wish with it, just for cases like this.
I've posted an official reply about the event in the sword of tears thread. It turned out to be a far more apt name than anyone could have imagined.
The event did not run as originally intended. With an in-flight change to the rules that as I have said unfolded into a series of problems around 'judging' the winner.
That said whilst heavily stressed during the event - the team are un-bowed and determined to see a big improvment in the next event. Of course, I hope Part II is far more smooth and far less contentious too.
There was new content in the event - which made some of the issues all the more galling. However, some painful lessons have been fully taken on-baord and I hope the community will still look forward to the next event in the Epic Weapon Campaign.
Why were no lessons learned from all the previous GM events? Why should we believe this history of failure will change now?
What specifics steps are you going to take to change GM events? Not vague promises, specifics.
Why does every GM event have overwhelmingly negative feedback? What do you think are the reasons for this?
Finally, why do you think it is a good idea to hand out an overpowered weapon to a dubious tournament winner in a FFA PVP game? What considerations went into the balance issues?
That said whilst heavily stressed during the event - the team are un-bowed and determined to see a big improvment in the next event. Of course, I hope Part II is far more smooth and far less contentious too.
The usual "it didnt go perfect, but it was decent, we've learned a lot for next time", eh? How many times will you have to use your playerbase as labrats to learn to avoid obvious design mistakes such as "no teaming" rule in a heavily guildbaased games..

I don't know if the event was a "fail" but it sure seemed to fall short of all the hype that went on before. I also notice that a lot of the cockiness of earlier posts are missing from GMTheia...
A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true...
The irony of it all is just sad. Pathetic actually. They came on here attacking a certain poster. Like it's his fault SV is a failure of a company. All he does is screenshot threads that were obviously going to be deleted and showed just what type of company these people are running. Theia spammed this sub forum not only with those attacks but this stupid event as well. It all fails... Surprise! No, not really..
A crap company is a crap company. People don't have a problem paying for a sub par product. They do it all the time. This event is only a small example as to why this company is struggling. They won't learn anything from it. Their arrogance makes sure of that. They'll just get their fanbots and their staff to chase a handfull of posters around to different forums thinking those people are the reason this ships sinking.

I may not agree with 100% of his post, but I think this guy pretty much sums up the general reaction to the fiasco:

Yeah, he basically said... "Sorry but tough ****" then the thread got closed and posts deleted etc.
If anyone wants to complain or anything they must do so in private etc.
Standard SV crap. They screw up, fans suffer and then they are told they can't complain about it because it makes SV and MO look bad.
And what did he do?? Threaten to not ban anyone?

Reflections on the Sword of Tears Event
A message from Theia and the Team.

Curious.

Did he?
All I saw in the post (which may or may not have really been DISCORD as his name looks deleted) slightly related was this: Do I blame those individuals who did not play or bent to almost breaking point the rules? I do not.
I personally would say that a guild admitting to directly healing your guildmates is pretty far PAST the breaking point. No ambiguity involved. That is blatant cheating and DIRECTLY against the posted rules. But heck, I guess getting the sword in the end makes everything worthwhile!

Thanks

Why were no lessons learned from all the previous GM events? Why should we believe this history of failure will change now?
What specifics steps are you going to take to change GM events? Not vague promises, specifics.
Why does every GM event have overwhelmingly negative feedback? What do you think are the reasons for this?
Finally, why do you think it is a good idea to hand out an overpowered weapon to a dubious tournament winner in a FFA PVP game? What considerations went into the balance issues?
The usual "it didnt go perfect, but it was decent, we've learned a lot for next time", eh? How many times will you have to use your playerbase as labrats to learn to avoid obvious design mistakes such as "no teaming" rule in a heavily guildbaased games..
fail is fail, call it whatever you like, post a text wall about it, won't change anything about it.
I think I found the true reason for MO's failure : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henrik_Nystr%C3%B6m
That's right, Henrik Nyström happens to be a golfer. That would explain all the handling of the project !
Keep posting honestly and sincerely like this and you will win back some players. I commend your change of attitude and think you are finally getting it. Nice work. I wish you luck with the next event.
