18:50 - 61:00

- The world is empty.

- The game is so instanced that you have huge cities with no one in them.

- The game is just Guild Wars.

- Why am I waiting in a queue if it's all instanced.

- Still has annoying aging MMO quests.

- Brad wondering why he is playing the game after level three on a few characters because it is the same game that we've played before. (might not play for much longer).

- Jeff saying it's the best WoW like MMO since WoW.

- Didn't like the on Rails Space game.

- Ryan at around level 12, feels familiar but voice work is great and Jeff feels the same after Joining the Empire (hates Republic).

- Game is very easy.

- Having to choose all light side or all dark side for the gear, even though those are the decisions you don't want to make unless you want to grind repeatables after.

- Brad hates how everything about Star Wars has become these recreations of the original Trilogy. Saying Here is your Obi-Wan class, here is your Han Solo, Boba Fett and Stormtrooper etc. Wants to see new characters...

- Emo Hair designs.

- General chat made of 12 year olds.

- First Flashpoint experience wasn't anywhere near as epic as Vancleef lol.

- Well made MMO but hasn't fixed a lot of problems other MMOs have but the voiced stuff.

- Alien voice work seems weak (probably why we don't have Alien races).

- Jeff doesn't like Star Wars and wish'd they solved problems of the genre, likes companions doing the crafting.

- Brad thinks the new Blizzard MMO is the last hope of pushing the genre forward.

- Patrick hates these types of MMOs and has no interest in playing, thought it was going to be different but turned out it isn't.

- Brad seems to hate no Auto Attack because it makes it unclear when to hit the next attack.

- Jeff 30 hours played.

- Seem to like Saber Modifications but disappointed that you're locked into a saber type with your class.

- Don't get to learn about the Advance class you're picking.

- Good story, well made MMO but still about going to an area, clicking on all the guys with icons above their heads with objectives that all happen to take place in the same area. You do all them quests and then realise you missed one and have to go all the way back, Brad saying that is when he stopped.

Conclusion at the end.

Well made MMO, but it is pretty much a standard MMO and they're curious to see how it turns out. It doesn't seem like they're that impressed so far but they like the story and the voice acting so far.

It's not as instanced as you all say. Each shard of a zone can hold a couple hundre people as well and that's not "empty".

On higher level planets (tatooine, lvl 25 for example) there has been no instancing at all when I've played and there are always around 100 people in the zone or more. PLENTY of world PvP to run into there also.

How can people be waiting in queues and yet see nobody in the game? For some reason that just sounds fishy to me.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

I agree with Jeff. He didn't mean the players with 'empty' btw!

I think 100 people is the problem, needs to be more or it isn't massive, why split the players up so much?

Oh yeah the all light side all dark side for gear claim is completely false.

Diplomacy can make up points you
Missed as well as flashpoints. There are an unlimited amount of DS/LS points in this game.

100 isn't the cap for an instance, it's much higher than that. That's just the amount of people in the zone at the time, and it isn't instanced.

I don't ever see 100 people running around all around me in most MMOs, like wow. Most zones are pretty empty actually. I'd say that's a good number.

Its Bioware way of fixing other launch problems such as kill steals and what not.

They mentioned that but it's a grind and they don't want to play an MMO where they have to grind again.

Some of the points are really disingenuous (mauled sp?).  I don't really get why people have to psuedo lie?

Saying they don't give you information on the advanced class before you pick it.... they do.. verbally and they give you a text overview.

Playing till lvl 3 and then saying "done this all before" is kinda lame also.  There's very few "kill 10 of x" quests.  You're usually doing a mission with a point and a minor plot and a bonus is given to kill x... Same thing in the end, but they are at least trying a bit.

Lastly... the game does get harder later.  I mean like WTF why the jump in difficulty?  Did some quests in Alderaan and me and a few guildies got a rude awakening that the planet was rougher than previous ones.  You had to CC...lots of roamers... boss mobs that kill melee (OMG the hunter killer droid).

There's others, but I have to put food away.

Is there an mmo where you don't have to grid something? That's just a silly statement.

If they don't want to grind alignment then make all the same choices, if you don't make too many "wrong" choices you won't have to grind at all. If you end up totally neutral then that is a choice you make with consequences.

Noone is forced to grind alignment. But if you want the alignment gear there are many ways to get it. Grid or not, it's up to the player.

Well it kinda sorta is in a round about way.  Think about it for a second.  Guild Wars had the same kind of server set up.   When a zone hit 100 peeps, a new instance of the zone was created.  Same as SW:TOR.  Guild Wars was a lobby game.  In some ways SW:TOR is like that. Guild Wars had a system that allowed you to take companions o nquest with you.   Well SW:TOR allows you to call on a companion to go on a mission with you, in fact you can switch out companions almost when needed from tank to healer on the fly.    So yeah..in weird round-about way...I can see why the one guy thought it was very similar to Guild Wars.

I have to ask...people say light and darkside points don't matter.   In beta they did.  In fact if you wnet darkside as a Sith it started to effect the way your character looked!  Are you saying that is not how the game is any longer?  Also...I could have swore that only certain items were available to you if you were lightside and or darkside...that the only wayto get them was to be attuned to a certain level of dark or lightside points.

If I am misteken...I am sorry, because taht is not how I preceived it to be.   Also, if light and darkside points have no bearing on anything - why are they there?

  • dubyahitedubyahite Member UncommonPosts: 2,483
Teala, that's a stretch. GW had a lobby that was instanced and when you went in the world it was your own instance of that world, right?

This is nothing like that. There is no "lobby" but sometimes the open world gets sharded. 100 is not the cap either, it's much higher.

At most in any zone there are 2 instances. I've never seen it hit 3 shards. As you level up it doesn't instance at all. Never seen one on tatooine for example. I'm pretty sure the larger worlds have much higher caps than the starter worlds.

The starter worlds are very small and get congested easily. The later worlds are huge.

The guild wars comparison is not really appropriate here. The differences inthe server architecture are much greater. 2 instances per zone compared to how many at a time in GW?

I do kind of see what you are saying, and can see how it would give that impression, but the reality is much different than that.

Yeah it is weird, but  Ican see it from his perspective.   I will say this, I still do not understand why people are ragging on this system.  It aliviates so many issues you might encounter in other games.   Even if your friend is on another shard, either have them move to yours or you move to theirs.   Which ever has the least peeps in it.  Problem solved.  It is way less taxing on peoples systems with this in place and I can completely understand why Bioware did this.  ::shrugs::  I understand some peoples concerns, but at the same time I understand that this is very benificial to the over all performance of the game.

In response to your secon post Teala, everything you said is true about dark/light. Gear and all that. What I was saying is that there are other ways to get the points besides conversations.

If you ended up 50/50 on DS/LS you wouldn't be able to use that gear, but your character wouldn't be screwed up because you can get the points from diplomacy or flashpoints.

There is an unlimited amount of points out there, but if your character ends up neutral you will have to do some work to get to dark or light.

Most people won't have this issue, but some people want to make a few light choices here an there when they are dark mostly. This won't screw you over. I you went totally neutral you will have some work to do at the end, but a few choices here or there won't hurt you.

It's possible to go to the end with very few alignment points, it's not smart but you can recover from it.

I keep reading about how packed Tatooine is, and maybe that's where all the biggest fans are hanging out, but in every zone I've been in so far, I almost never see more than one or two other players at a time. Dromund Kaas, Balmorra, and now Nar Shadaa - I don't know, maybe there are a hundred players somewhere, but I never see the sort of population in my immediate area, that I've seen in every other MMO. In fact, it does feel downright deserted, even when my server is listed as heavy or full.

Some people are talking about what they see in front of them, and I guess others are talking about the numbers they see when they check zone counts.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

same just waited in 35 min que for shadowlands.. i see people but very very few for a full server.. the instancing is cutting population in areas down way to much

I saw people all over Nar Shadaa and balmorra vhaln. Nar Shadaa was downright crowded on empire side.

On tatooine I can't go five steps inthe dune sea without gettin ganked by republic or running into other empire players.

I don't know why you haven't seen anyone. I don't even play at peak times and there are people all over the place. I run into guilds all the time out in the world.

Actually...I thought SWTOR bore resemblence to GW1 before it even came out. And after playing it, I can still see the resemblence.

Think about it...what are two of the most major differentiating features of SWTOR? I would say that companions and the cinematic storyline definitely qualify.

Guild Wars had BOTH of these. GW had "heroes" that were basically companions, they had their own stories, you could take them on adventures with you, and they were actually MUCH more customizable (ability wise, not visually) than the ones in SWTOR. GW also had a cinematic storyline. You went through a "mission" and then during/afterwards got a cutscene to reveal the story.

Ironically, I think SWTOR has a lot more in common with GW1 than GW2 does :)! From a structural standpoint, not from a thematic standpoint obviously.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Another laughably uninformed quote. Starter zones go to 200-250 people. The larger zones are pretty much unlimited for most purposes.
