It's a serious question. I bought this game mainly because I like to play in ava.
I like questing to a certain degree as a break from pvp. I liked the questing for my faction, but that's enough. I really cannot stomach questing all the way through two other factions to hit VR10 (and soon 12) for pvp.
What's the best (i.e., fastest) way to get there without exploiting? How did all the other VR 10s get there already?
I saw a bunch of people aoe farming wolves in a public dungeon, but that doesn't look like much fun. Is that really a fast way to level or are they doing for farming mats/gear? I would rather quest than do that. I'm VR1 now. At my present rate of leveling it looks like it will take me a couple of months to make it to VR12.

Honestly, I don't think there is a fast way for you given your response on that wolf farming. The fastest way to leveling is farming dungeons around your level. It's a tedious and long process but you'll average about a level every 30-40 minutes depending if you're with others or not.
You won't match the current V10's speeds though. A higher majority of them exploited farming spots that have since been patched (not to say you were going to exploit).
Thanks for the info. That's pretty fast. I didn't realize you could get an AR level in 30-40 minutes of that. I might re-think my position. I've been spending hours on quests I don't enjoy that much (you know so and so needs to be sacrificed ... yet again in the other factions) and that seems kind of stupid. I do like AvA, for the most part, so that's why I've been doing it.
Maybe I will do a bit of wolf farming. Cheers.
No doubt man. Quests in this game are just reworded with the same scenarios. It can get pretty boring, not WoW level... but yeah. Best of luck in your adventures though brotha!
Yep, this is right. I got thousands of gold, hide, and enchants. Also lots of other drops for R1 gear or deconstruction, so good for crafters, too. But I don't want to do it for more than 30 or 40 minutes.
It was a good tip, though.
Disregard what I said. I should of read better and realized you guys were talking about veteran levels. I mistook you for a newcomer to ESO that was looking for level 1 to VR10.
Check this out, guide to grind to lvl 50. AoE abilities will help you a lot.

Personally I would not recommand to skip all the content if you are new to the game. The questing is actually really nice and the strength of ESO. You will miss aswell free skill points which you get sometimes after finishing quests.
Thanks for the info. I agree with you that aoe grinding to 50 is not as good as enjoying the quests. It really was fun (in spite of bugs) to level to 50.
I'm more interested in how to get through the Veteran Ranks.
As good as this once was, it's ineffective now. Back in beta times these zones were perfect. Since this youtuber has posted this video they have been ruined. It's overcrowded, you're forced into large raid groups and what was once 400+ XP is now 186 XP.
Good share regardless for any of those that didn't know of these spots.
wolf farming is for the sell loot, not for the exp.
here's what you do listed in order of priority:
clear overworld objectives - pub dungeons, bosses, anchors. do this for the zone +2 levels above you (you are VR2, stop after VR4 zone is complete, do not do the VR5 zone until you are VR3, etc)
do cadwell's almanac hubs - you need to do these in order to go to the 50++ zones anyway. they give decent exp on completion
do secondary hubs - each secondary hub gives a good amount of exp once completed, use these to fill in the exp gaps whenever you run out of overworld objectives and cadwell hubs.
group dungeons - grind these as filler. right now you get around 200-300k exp per run. each run, with a competent group, will take about 20-30 minutes. you also (in the 5+ dungeons) will get VR10 gear you can deconstruct for mats or hold on to for when you hit VR10 yourself.
your path to VR10 is laid out. things will change in 1.1 with the increase of mob exp and pvp exp. hopefully dungeons will also benefit from the increased mob exp so you won't have to grind for 5 hours per level once you complete every quest and have nothing else left to do.
the increase of mob exp is only for craglorn.. so it wont really change that much at all.
Ah, that must have been changed (or at least clarified) in the last few days. i'm sitting at VR6 right now, not sure if I want to continue to 10/12 at this point. Will have to see how the game is after 1.1 is released. Whole thing just feels clunky right now... hard to grind through all of the quests when all I'm really playing for is the pvp (which honestly feels kind of meh anyway). oh well.
the patch notes always said "mob experience in craglorn has been increased" it never stated outside of craglorn except for PvP, people just read it and then are like OMG EXP INCREASE and spread misinformation and then all of a sudden everyone who didnt read and understand the notes is under the assumption that mob exp for the whole game is increased.
no biggie, 1/3 of the way into V7 and enjoying ebonheart pact's storyline, i didnt really like AD's that much but EP aint too bad... not much further to go
Thanks for the post.
What are these? I've never heard of these. Are these part of "Cadwell's Silver" in the main quest? Where do I go for this -- the Harborage?
yes, silver and then gold (50+ and 50++).
the secondary hubs are any of the quest hubs not in the silver/gold lists.
as for the increased exp, on the day the notes were posted (2 fridays ago i believe) it read "monster experience in veteran areas has been increased by more than double."
they must have axed that and made it only for craglorn for whatever reason.
i dunno if that was off one of the reddit posts about it or what, but i mean i read the patch notes the day they released on the official ESO site and i always saw "in craglorn" so maybe they edited it not long after they bought it out and realised it was a mistake... but i mean it was like 2 hours after they posted it that i read it, so i dunno
either way, outside of exploiting, they really want you to see everything they developed and they push you todo the quests and zone completions.. i know it isnt everyones cup of tea.. but if you get a good group you can clear 4 man dungeons in 15 - 20min and they reward over 100k exp per run and you have a chance at epics obviously.. but they really really want you to experience all the story lol
Who cares about the fastest way to VR10 if its a boring one... who cares if you are VR10 after 1 or after 3 months, if you plan to play the game for years...
Shouldn´t we be all interested in the most fun way to max level?

Yes.
This is the bottom line, really.
There is some very cool stuff about this game. There is also some really frustrating stuff. But I think that has to do with tuning it, still. It's a bit bumpy and disjointed to me in some ways. However, as long as the fun outweighs the annoyance, I will keep playing.
There is no reason to hurry if you're having fun.
