Should the books in ESO have voice overs also?

KnotwoodKnotwood Member CommonPosts: 1,103

So after reading many books, the thought occured to me, it would be really great to have voice overs on these books, so you can kick back and listen to a story, and why not..   we loved hearing stories read to us when we were younger when we were put to bed by our parents.  Or prehaps that one time in school when you had an English teacher who would read stories and poems to you.

Imagine books being read like this when ever you picked up a book in game...

Would you like to see voice overs for books?

sure if they find time between development of the other more important stuff...from a player prospective i see no reason why not.

Of course. When I'm playing a game I always think to myself "You know, this is fun and all.. but I really wish it had more of a 'book on tape' kinda feel to it."

The cost is unnecessary, the time spent is unnecessary. I also don't want them to take the chance on creating a small group of people who would post here about every game in the next ten years claiming a lack of this is gamebreaking. People complain about everything.

That would be nice, just have an option to turn it off for the people who said no.  But im sure they will complain anyway.

Based off your post, you are correct Sir! :)

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

NPCS = People - People talk... Books do not talk.

First, from a practical point of view, I thought about this. As it is now, there are too many NPCs voiced by the same actors. (Am I allowed to mention that or does that make me a whiner?)

This is my thought on immersion. I like reading in real life, and also in game when I'm in the mood.

EDIT: Books don't talk unless they are magic books, of course.

No, first we need proper guild system, name and guild plates, proper group options, new auction system etc etc. Rolled an alt in a different faction and discovered that I was in the same guilds from another faction. ESO guild system is even worse than GW2's and that was bad enough. For me this is much more game breaking than a few bugs here and there.

More evidence of the current generation's illiteracy.

Books are a side thing for people REALLY into the lore. Otherwise, they're just to click bookshelves for for skill points. Too much time and money would be spent on these book VO's for something a miniscule percentage of the player base would MAYBE care about.

  • jesadjesad Member UncommonPosts: 882

Absofreakinglutely not.  First off, there are enough illiterate's out there already what with VOIP, spell checker, and everything else made to keep people from actually having to learn to read, secondly there is a metric poop-ton of books in ESO and just taking screenshots of them to read later, when you have the time, when people aren't rushing you all over the place, like EVERYONE ALWAYS DOES, is enough to fill up gigs of space, not to mention the work involved in editing those screenshots to put back online, if that is your desire.  Adding more beef to these files via any kind of sound formatting would just be an incredible waste of space for an incredibly mundane reason.

Not to be an ass, really.  But if you want someone to read you a story have your girl or your guy play with you and they can read the books out loud while you protect them from the mobs that are gonna spawn while she or he is trying to get that done.

I laughed, I admit it. I wouldn't say I was shooting for 'complaining' though. I may think this idea is silly and superfluous, but it's better than reading the same 4 topics rehashed on ESO, Wildstar and Archeage. That stuff is worth complaining about.

Hell, I clicked in because "silly" is Knotwood's calling card, and I like that. I was hoping for Mister Ed style talking horses, but I guess it isn't time for that yet. We are not ready. Maybe once they hit 10 million subs?

    We will.

    OP that would be awesome.

I could state about the fact it would make prices skyrocket in its production having all the text read to you, or the fact it would likely be skipped over and ignored making the assets useless to most, but the most damning thing...

Books don't talk. Try it. Pick up a book and open it right now in RL. Tell me if it talks to you. That is your answer.

No more money for voice overs, cinematics etc pls. Give those money to gameplay, content, customer service, fast paced content addition, fast fixing of bugs etc etc and use the money to deliver a complete game on launch and not one in a beta state.

This ofc goes to all games, not only to ESO.

I voted No as I think we all need to read sometimes, its good for you. Would the OP want these forms to get a voiceover? I hope not! :D
