Last weekend, the v2.0 update to ArcheAge was deployed on Trion's ArcheAge servers. However, Glyph had other ideas and the weekend was fraught with issues. We caught up with Trion CEO Scott Hartsman to find out more about the issues, what will be done and plans for future updates.

More incompetent failure from Trion. They have been doing this same routine for 2 years now. Every time they make excuses, hand out some meaningless compensation, and move on the the next failure. You couldn't pay me to play a Trion game after Archeage.

I noticed 2 different answers that Scott references the land ownership as being this massively difficult and complex thing that I think he expects us to believe is new to MMO's. The reality is that games like Ultima Online were doing it nearly 2 decades ago, and doing it better. Archeage (US) has been nothing but one failed rollout after another since launch.

TRION=the new FUNCOM, taking the crown as the MMO industry's biggest/greediest failure with the best spin doctor trying to cover it up.

First off I like Scott he seems like a good guy, but sorry time for new management. Nothing they release for any game they handle goes well. I do wish them the best, but they need some serious changes internally. They are fast becoming the biggest joke in the gaming industry. I can safely say this because I've been testing their games pre alpha, and alpha/beta since 2010. Hope they iron this out before it gets stupid ugly.

I have to agree. Consumers have lost faith in him and Trion. Give him a nice severance package and part ways. It's too bad because there are game elements of AA that I really loved. But the company and economic model are awful.

    Oh and...

Odd, Mr. Hartsman never mentioned any issue with third party software as you lead us to believe from your source. He seemed to blame it on an unexpected load. Not one mention of this mysterious Glyph issue you indicated as the cause. Odd that you blamed Glyph when the rest of Trions games use it and were unaffected by any log in issues during that same time. Very odd indeed...

Sorry Scott. You used up the last of any benefit of the doubt for me when your company charged me a sub instead of using my free month of game time. And then after I opened a ticket your CS person responded like they were doing ME a one time only favor and they would never reverse any charge again. She was right of course, because that made my decision to never give you another cent pretty easy! Sounds like things haven't gotten much better from the initial launch.

Actually they did blame it on Glyph on the official forums during the issue...SMH. The first answer he gives in this interview has to do with the Glyph user account system issue that was the root cause...... "Scott Hartsman: Short version: Unexpected type of load on our account system that began just prior to the login rush, and had not been present through testing or prior game updates or game launches."

I'm convinced that TRION is just trolling people and isn't interested in generating revenue. This trifecta of failed ArcheAge Launches(Vanilla, Auroria, and now Relaunch) is just hard to believe. It has to be a troll.

The game is ruined. You can't even OWPVP anymore because of the new cannons all over the place and making EVERY house a safe zone. Of all the things, THAT is what I would stop playing for. What a joke.

I haven't seen a Scott Hartsman interview on this page since 3 weeks, which was "Scott Hartsman on All Things Trion -Aug 25, 2015". Given this site's history of constantly featuring these "interviews", something felt very unsual about that 3 weeks break and i admit it made me worry a bit!

So reliefed that we finally have another one here. IMO there can never be enough of them and and obviously mmorpg.com thinks the same way.

Hope to read you in two weeks again, Scott!

The only time you ever see news on any site about Archeage, is how Trion f##ked up. Wont play another trion game, I did the same thing with funcom after the Age of Conan shit storm.

Have about as much interest in Scott Hartsman as I do Smedley......Two blowhards in the industry that probably should just go away.

Does anyone actually believe this PR Spin? Everyday I load this site. I see yet another trion related article showing us what a clown car they have become. Do you think DMkano gets an SMS or email alert every time trion is posted about?
  • meonthissitemeonthissite Member UncommonPosts: 917
To me because of the takeover of Trion by the shareholders this company has become nothing but the latest NCsoft. Don't worry about the players or anything just keep bringing in the bottom line.

Yes ultima online with housing, graphics look like stick figures, world looks like something came out of a dumpster. tell them to make something at the graphical quality of AA and then come back to talk.

They need to give it up, already.
AA was designed for a Korean audience and to be played in Korea. It probably did fine there.

For Western audiences, not so much.

Labor points, bad; RNG crafting, worse; having to use the cash shop to recover from the previous 2, while paying a sub, the worst.

And they did a shit job handling the hackers getting all the land, too.

So, AA is done, move on already (the players have), maybe they won't screw up the next game so bad, but that is doubtful.

Personally I think their other games are alright but Archeage just seems to be cursed.
Trion would probably have been better off not touching any game made by XLGames, they are being blamed for all the games problems after all, when they can't touch the coding of the game themselves, they would have been far better off not having anything to do with it whatsoever, it might even have helped keep their reputation intact, perhaps they should just drop Archeage from their servers, tell XLGames to go take a running jump off a short pier or something.

He did not, read their previous statement from 12th september, It was an authentication issue with Glyph.
