Do you link your gear in guild chat?

I'm just curious. Do you link your new gear acquisitions in guild chat without being asked?

Under what circumstances do you link gear?

Only when I get an ultra rare, valuable or highly sought after drop.

I'll link in group/raid/guild if someone asks to see it, but that's about it. Never in general. I'd rather be known for my play than my gear. If it's noteworthy enough  games usually announces it now anyways.

Only if it's something the other guildmembers don't expect me to get, or marks some hard to get milestone or achievement.

Hell yeah, especially if I get an officer drop or other sweet piece of loot off of a player's wreck in EVE.  When I played AoC I would list really rare drops, or drops that only come off of super difficult bosses.

I got a ring off of a world boss in AoC once that has less than .01% drop rate and I linked that damn thing every day in general chat for a month. :awesome:

I guess it's fun to share when you're stoked on a new piece.

I don't link unless it's informational, like if I want to compare pieces and ask which one is better. One time I did link in ESO because I got the Engine Guardian helm (with a good trait) on my very first run and some guildies had been complaining about how hard it was to get. I couldn't resist that one.

Only if a necessary part of a chat conversation but not to just showoff.I used to play semi pro hockey and out of the hundreds of goals i scored i never celebrated once,i am not the showoff type person nor do i like to celebrate.Geesh i think i stopped celebrating birthdays when i was like 12 lol.

I feel gaming right now, well mainly in mmorpg's is way too dependent on loot, without that loot MOST of these games would be ghost towns.Matter of fact i bet every single genre is being driven by everything outside the actual FUN aspect to which MANY keep claiming the reason they play the games.

I know there is absolutely no reason at all to do a single instance dungeon in Wow if not for loot,so there goes 90% of Blizzard's player base.Of the other 10% about 8% of that is pvp fanatics again trying to showoff mainly their gear because player skill is extremely low in these games.I know that FFXIV is nothing moire than a gear progression game instead of being about FUN.

I used to think linking was complete nonsense but in case of someone asking about a reward,at least you can show them.Of course that player is not asking anyone about how FUN that dungeon or Boss was, only what loot it drops.

No, and furthermore, I only infrequently play games where it's even possible to link your gear.  Gear linking is such an obnoxious feature for games to have.

Only good loot.   Sometimes a build link.

It really depends on the culture of the guild I am in at the time.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Never unless asked to. I've never really been gear driven or felt the need to show off gear. It's all just pixels, I don't see the point.

ROFL hardly ever always late to the party. Only recall doing it when I got the eye of Cazic Thule in Everquest ...first on my server to have it since our guild was the first to kill him in Fear. Hooray for DKP I worked bloody hard for that one. Hours and hours I spent on Fear and hours helping people getting their corpses from so many places finally I got a reward. Not that I did all the other stuff for the reward it was just the system they used to measure your commitment to the guild.

I used to run part of the guild store in AA, using code which would store all the items we have. As long as you had guild chat you could enter a command to see a list of what we had and then send a request for the item. Back then in some MMOs you could create systems to cover what the MMO left out, today in our far more advanced MMOs you cannot. :)

Since than I have never bothered with listing in guild chat, but if someone asks about an item, usually on forums I will then.

Pretty vital in EVE, how we share fits all the time.

In EQ we link raid gear once an augment has been added to it, or once a mold has been turned into an armor piece, out of respect to thank the rest of the guild for helping us acquire it.

You have little time to thank everyone during raiding, but after raiding you link your gear after it is augmented, to thank everyone. I will usually link the item and then add "thank you all".

Having 53 other people help you get an item, and never saying thanks, is a bit rude. A link and a thanks works.

It is never a way to show off, everyone in the guild is geared very well, it is purely a form of thanks.

All depends on what game I'm playing, what I do in the guild, what kind of guild, and if people ask or if I'm giving it away. Most games though it's only if someone asks. Trade and crafting guilds tend to have me linking more often than I normally would as well.

I'm willing to acknowledge EVE as an exception to a lot of things.  You make it sound like linking gear there is more akin to linking a build in Guild Wars 1 than to "here's all the epics that some random stranger I inspected has" in WoW.  The latter is what annoyed me.

Never did unless someone asked what a certain boss dropped.
