Best MMO combat?

TyranusPrimeTyranusPrime Member UncommonPosts: 306
In all of the MMOs that you have played, which game's combat have you enjoyed the most? :)

Note: This is less a question of a game's individual class mechanics, but more about the overall feel and fun that you've had with the combat system as a whole..

My favorite has been with Vindictus. Personally, I like slower paced more realistic combat where things are blocked and attacks have to be timed. Vindictus also makes the environment a weapon much like Might and Magic Dark Messiah. Mabinogi comes a close second for me.

EVE. But that was million years ago, EVE is now pay to win game and new players take a long time to fit in. Skill used to matter now its just numbers and supers.

No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.

I have to agree with @rodingo, I loved Planetside 1's combat.  That was a brilliant game.  Today's gamers would find it too simplistic, because they couldn't disappear into an overly complex background to hide.

I also enjoyed the combat in Star Wars Galaxies, especially when I learned how to use looping combat macros.  I leveled Master Carbineer / Master Creature Handler without them.  But When I leveled Master Teras Kasi Artist / Master Commando it was more like watching a movie.  The TKA had beautiful combat animations, that were enhanced by red motion trails of the hands and feet through the air.  As well as the iconic John Williams music.  I only wish I had made some recordings back then.

F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
    Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play.  Therefore P2W.

I actually really enjoyed SWTOR's combat as it was very smooth and had a good focus on having good reflex to counter players in PvP. It was good fun but overall I can't suggest the game but if it's just for the combat sake.... Sure

It is traditional mmo combat but a bit more speedy

Skyforge, the only reason I played that game for as long as I did was the combat.

swtor had great rotations. The game fails in many other areas but I loved Watchman sentinel rotation before the 3.0 patch.

Tbh, B&S has had the best combat I've experienced so far, but maybe that's because I main force master which can pretty much cheese everything in the game. That said, even playing a summoner or KFM, the overall combat is pretty relaxing and there have been many times I'll be grinding for hours doing dailies and such without even noticing how long I've been playing.

WoW vanilla for how responsive the character was and how it did exactly as I ordered it to do.

Wizard 101 for best combat mechanisms.

DAoC is my pick, especially the PvP aspects of combat. It was great because out playing your opponent didn't mean doing more dps in a rotation, but being knowledgeable of the game physics. Using the game physics to your advantage in order to use positional abilities, which had stuns attached to them for example was the most efficient way to win fights as melee.  Also, on the ranged side when MJ still ran the game archer arrows were physical objects and could be blocked with shields. While spell casters couldn't cast while being hit, unless they were high realm rank with a timed ability, but it had reduced damage.

It was a shit MMO, but Defiance... just really well designed  TPS combat.

Darkfall Online beats it any day. The amount of adrenaline that was pumping through your body during any combat was a completely new experience. I hope I get to feel that again.

I like DFUW better than DFO but both are much better than anything else out there.  Free aim, no self rooting...there aren't any other MMO's out there like it.

EQ1 has the best slow combat, very tactical and fighting one mob at a time is a big deal.  Two at a time and you are scrambling.
