With the imminent release of ARK: Survival Evolved, Studio Wildcard has sent out the game's official launch trailer. Sure, you'll see dinosaurs and players and lots of vegetation but nothing will prepare you for the CUTENESS of prehistoric otters (with a bang)! 3</p>

All these nice looking bases that look like real towns/settlements that no one actually makes in-game. In reality it's just one big unsexy cube with dozens of turrets. I wish it was as nice as one would imagine it, but it isn't. Nobody builds for aesthetic purposes.

Except maybe on PvE server but there exists another problem where every spot is just taken and there's no room anywhere. It gets stale in about 20 days on a new server and any longer means its population exists primarily of the alpha tribe that had played non-stop since the start and the newbies that don't know better.

Hard to take this "launch" seriously when they already sold DLC in early access.

I like ARK, but I feel like their priorities are all out of order. They consistently provide more and more content and dinosaurs and expansions, but seem to never really be working on optimization. They have so many bugs with the current game it's outrageous. It ran fine for me, but their placement mapping for where things can go and cannot go is broken as hell, pipe laying is awful, and each patch somehow breaks some big thing on our server that we run. I can't even count the amount of times I've had to do a rollback because for some reason all of our dinosaurs fell through the ground because of a patch, for absolutely no reason. Plus on top of that the game seems to have so many options for changing graphics, but still runs like absolute garbage on most computers that I've played it on. I understand the fact that they probably have designers and artists that need something to work on, so designing more and more content is understandable, but maybe if they just held off on it for like 2 months, to just allow their coding team to fix some of the other issues and lay a more reliable base for the other content to go into, it might be a better optimized game.

Plus I don't really understand why they launched it on consoles so early, it seems like it runs like absolute garbage on console.

I wonder if they're going to change the listed system requirements to be more accurate. "2 GHz Dual-Core 64-bit CPU" and "DirectX10 Compatible GPU with 1 GB Video RAM" is not only extremely vague, but it's just wrong. I've got an i7-2630QM and GTX 560M 2GB. It's not an impressive machine by any standards, but according the the requirements I should be able to run it. I've bought and refunded this one 3 times since EA started because the best I've been able to achieve is a whopping steady 9 fps at the lowest possible settings.

Dinosaurs are much sexier than bug fixes and optimization work.

Basic questions...I have been researching this game as I am considering buying: for PS4 players, will this be a "new" game, meaning everyone starts anew at level 1? Or, is this an expansion and there will be existing long-time players? I am also aware that some servers will be wiped and others won't ,and are those servers related to particular platforms?

The most horridly optimized game in the history of unoptimized games....
