I dont know why World of Warcraft is such a hated game!Of course like every other game has its fans and its opponents but why so much hate against it?World of warcraft in my honest opinion pushed mmorpg's (online games) to the next level. The proof is that many people that did not knew about online games, now they are in for good..and that is good for blizzard ofc but it is also good for the online market.I think blizzard made the difference in online gaming either you (i) like it or not.So why so much hate against wow..the thing is so simple either you like it and play or you dont like it and you dont play it..Critise it yes..complain about blizzards bad customer service ok etc etc..But comments here a beyond critisism and complain...it is pure hate well...why?

Well... Let me give you the short, unbaised answer: because it is the most popular game. Ive played WOW on and on for about 15 months and I enjoyed it. Its just that people are more likely to point out the bad things in a game that everyone knows about. Correct me anyone if im wrong.

How can you be impartial if you're partial to the game and have played it for 15months?

Anyway. WoW is discussed as much as it is because it's the most popular Western MMO.
WoW is hated because it has so many players and the game itself is sub-par. There isn't much to the world, it's not complex at all and it has very linear gameplay. It's very instanced and it has no real PVP. The crafting skills are made so a 5yr old can do them and any form of strategy is non-existant in the game.

WoW is a mind numbing game. Nothing more, nothing less.

Wow removes choice from the market. Although ex-wow players will make up a massive refuge influx for the next generation of games, right now WoW is killing off niche games that would otherwise attract previous industry players. It depends - I dont have a problem with WoW really, I tried it, didnt like it but am still tempted to try again one day. What boggles me the most is why eve online players have a problem with Wow? Eve is an over complex game takes years to really get into, Wow is a game you can pick up and master in a month easy - They will never apply to the same target audiences yet Eve players regularly insult WoW players and use 'Wow player' as an insult to flame anyone that doesnt like Eve.

In the long term WoWs success will bring immense industry benefit that will only be seen as it dwindles.

WoW is good, it's just to streamlined. The talent trees just do not give me enough control over my character.

Wow is the most popular mmorpg to date, hence it gets bashed enough. many games have the exact same problem as WoW, but you don't see people creating 101 topics about Everquest 2 or CoH's End RAID game content.

Also, While WoW is currenty the best mmorpg to date, but that does not mean the game is for everyone. hence many people fail to see the diffrence between  "bad game" and "Not for me".

WoW is hated because it's population numbers aren't a direct reflection of it's quality.  One would expect a game with over 6 million subscribers would be an amazing title, but such is not the case with WoW.

WoW's only good aspect is that it brought light to the MMO genre for hundreds of thousands of people.  As a result of this, other developers will aspire to create even better MMOs and the industry will steadily flourish.

Because it is the Britney Spears of MMOs. Shallow, pretty but ultimately meaningless with success disproportionate to talent.

Yup, the only reason is becaue it is popular.  I don't play it anymore because I got bored of it, but it has the best mix of good qualities vs bad.  Personally though, I thought EQ2 was a better overall game.

WoW just get's so much attention because it is popular though.  That attention is usually negative (on boards) because that's what boards are, a place for people to spew negativity.  If the boards were a place to be positive about things, this board would be full of WoW praise.  So take the WoW hate as a sign of the good health of the game.

For me, because they make the raiding mistake.

If they would have gotten a greater vision and a better understanding, but the raiding endgame is just as bad as in EQ.

Hate it?  No, disgusted by it? Yes.

First part of the game is the best part. That is leveling up for the first time with friends. I will never forget those times.

It's pretty much downhill after that with

    1. Endless time sinks
    2. Endless grinding
    3. Meaningless grinding
    4. Raiding to get items to improve.. raiding
    5. The Addictive quality of WoW can make life pretty shitty if you are unable to balance it (and for most people this is the case).

    Among a few others.

It also draws people away from other games. It makes the comunnity in other games people really love smaller. It could also put other MMOs out of business which is, I think, what alot of people are afraid of. It also waters down MMOs. It makes it so anyone can join, im not talking about what Nintendo is doing right now for games, I mean it waters down the quality of the community. It allows people who really dont care about the game, its development or the people around them to play. Maybe I am wrong about this but this is my reason for the "hatred" I have toward WoW. I dont hate it like you make so many people out to do, I have no respect for it and dislike it. Hate is a strong word in any context. But it doesnt really matter what anyone posts here. The WoW "fanboys" will simply say people hate it "becuase its popular and its cool to hate popular stuff so they think hatting it makes them cool" and the "haters" will simply say "the game is stupid, it has no point, and it looks like a sunday morning cartoon". So neather side will listen to each other or try to understand and the cycle of the internet will go on.

For some its simple id imagine, and because for some at high end they claim they lack the time to raid, and apparently if you cant have uber super god mode raid gear, you cant play the game.

The raid thing is bs imo, its the fact that people dont try and use diffrent play styles that they end up sucking at high lvls w/o raid gear. I have a 60 def warrior, and tho they are built for pve, ive found strategies for group and solo to survive pvp.

But since everyone goes 2h arms/fury warrior, yes the one with the better gear will win because your using the exact same strategy against each other.

That along with its popularity, i guess makes people furious.

They must've done somthing right tho to be the #1 mmo atm.

I'm not sure if you knew this or not but your uber-noobs go around and pruposely attack everyone and everything else, like WoW was the best things since buttered toste. That definitely doesn't inspire love.

that makes no sense at all.

if wow is so horrible why would it kill off niche games, or any games for that matter? i mean, if wow is horrible, that must mean tha these new games must be even worse since people would rather play WoW instead, right?  if the so called "industry players" which i assume you mean as real mmorpg fans who know what a good game is, why wouldn't they go to that better niche game?

btw, this kind of petty bashing of games and fanboyism is what makes this forum pretty much worthless. sure, there's the occasional rational post here and there, but for the most part, just look around. a bunch of teenage, whining, hypocritical, fanboys in every post bashing one game or another, even the so-called "mature" EVE players.

As to the topic I tried WOW it was ok I dont "hate" the game but the childish players drove me away.

Surviving PvP and being viable in PvP are two VERY different concepts. This is the case regardless of whether your build is unique or not. More often than not, your effectiveness in PvP is directly relative to your gear, which gives an edge to the players spending 9 hours a day in the "end-game." The irony is that these players are only PvPing for lack of anything better to do, which demeans the PvP experience for those who are looking for it. This is why people hate WoW... without raiding, you can't do anything worthwhile. Anyone saying otherwise is just silly.

WoW went from being the kind of game in which virtually no one ever complained about, to where there are constant complaints of lack of things to do after 60th lvl for 2 years & Blizzard's lack of getting the ball rolling on TBC Xpac has caused the once flawless game to become a huge target of criticism.

WoW keeps it simple and makes a rather intimidating genre more apealing to the masses.  As a father of 2 with a business, the early stages of WoW were a great distraction.  The end-game raiding has been the brunt of most criticisms IMO.  You are either a raider, or you are not.  At end-game there are no trade-skills, character development, or other activities to keep gamer's coming back.  I think WoW gives other MMO's something to shoot for in terms of mass appeal, but after you have a few 60's you will want to do more than level another toon.

its not liked because of its fans that come out and tell everyone thats its such a great game and try and push it on ppl. They need to learn that some people just dont like the freaking game. Personly tho i dont like it cause now all you got are game componys trying to mimic its sucsess and pissing off everyone one that doesent like that type of game.

That pretty much sums it all up right that.  It's numbers won't last forever.  And as they start to decrease, so will the hate against WoW.
