With Vanguard coming out, some features it has reminds me of Ultima Online. Aside from the class/level character progression system (UO had skill-based). Does anyone know if Ultima Online is being redone with the newer PC requirements? If not, any other MMORPG like Ultima coming out?
Another question: Do you think Vanguard will host a PVP ruleset that is pretty harsh? In otherwords, I like open PVP governed and policed by the players. Is this possible within Vanguard's world?
Thanks.
Serious death penalties makes every close call an adrenaline rush, and every minor achievement a major victory. This alternative rule-set should be in all MMORPGs.

Supposed to release sometime in 2007. But, as with all games developed by small companies: Keep your skepticism intact until you actually see the product. I'm watching Darkfall with great interest but I certainly wouldn't pre-pay or pre-order.
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

Ditto on Darkfall being the most heavily UO influenced game in the works.
I went through the Vanguard FAQ and to me it does not look much like UO. Class/level based with heavy focus on itemization.
Done correctly this could be the best gaming news ever!!!!

It's not a 3d remake, there just adding more crap on the same tired 2d isometric servers. A total waste of time.
A 3D version of UO was released a few years backed (UO: Third Dawn), but it's success seemed to be limited to players that wanted to try something new or looking for the exclusive 3D content (Ilshenar). When Lord Blackthorne's Revenge was released, the exclusive 3D-content was made available in 2D as well. After LBR, I don't know more ten or twenty people that play using the 3D client. UO's 2D client is simple and fast. Their first attempt at a 3D client was a failure in my opinion. The quality of the 3D client is extremely limited when running in parallel with the dated (9 years) 2D client (which I still enjoy), even in isometric form.
The UOKR press release states that the 2D client will still be running along side the new 3D client. This means that it will still be extremely limited. The quality is improved, but I'm afraid it will still look quite cheesy. The UO:KR initial press release contained three (3) screenshots. It is undeniable that the overall quality is higher, but character movement is still rigid and awkward.
I'll try UO:KR when a free trial is released, but I won't be spending any money on it. Without significant changes to graphical mechanich, which I believe would require a rather large patch or a forced upgrade, I predict UO:KR will but a small improvement in the end.
I consider myself a supporter of UO to this day, but I worry for the success of UO:KR.

Darkfall.
The modern MMORPG is simply not worthy, of the acronym RPG. The straight grind and lack of atmosphere leave me with no choice. From this day forth, World of Warcraft, Everquest 2, and all the games like them shall be referred to as PIGCRAP. People In Guilds Constantly Raiding And Power-leveling
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
Vanguard will not be close to UO.
I hope they one day make a new version of UO, with nice graphics and everything.
Nothing will ever replace Ultima. Ultima can't even replace Ultima because it's made by EA now and not OSI, so it'll always suck.

Ultima Online is just as great as it was in the beginning. Some people did not like the changes and left, some did like the changes and stayed. Simple as that. I am so looking forward to next year around September when "A Kingdom Reborn" will be released.
For me it still is the best mmorpg there is and I try them all

Ultima Online is currently being remade to a full 3D graphic engine, it will be finished in 2 years from now..

They need to make a UO2, instead of scrapping it everytime before its released.
Also, im not sure who they are hoping to attract with the new graphics. They still will suck by today's standards and all the old vets who quit long ago because of UOR or even worst AOS will not bother coming back for a tad bit of eye candy but the same game they quit.
All I can think of is that its being made to try and keep the people playing it still playing. Theres alot of dedicated UO players out there, alot with multiple accounts. One person holding 5-8 accounts isnt rair in UO, and im sure these are the people EA are going to ty and keep.
Darkfall is (unofficially) UO 2.

There was a UO2 in the making under the name of "Ultima X:Odyssey". Unfortunatly it was cancelled in mid 2004 to focus on UO. You can find more info here.

Dear Ultima X: Odyssey community members'
I find it very odd they still have many links to this version still up even after 2 years..

It IS a 3D remake but they are keeping the content and then some. Learn to read before you open your mouth with senseless air leaking out.

Totally false. Vanguard will not use instances which WoW relies heavily on. Vangaurd will use player owned housing and cities, WoW did not have this. I could go on for hours with how Vanguard is NOT WoW rehashed; do your research please.
In regards to OP, Vangaurd has some similarities of the orginial UO, but not as many as UO fans would wish. I feel that in terms of the PvP, VSoH might resemble orginal UO in some sense such as seemless world with no instances and dungeon competition. I think Vangaurd is more closely resembling SWG, however. But definatly NOT WoW rehashed LoL.
