MMORPG.com rates this game a 6.3 however I do not feel that number reflects the current feel of the player base nor does it help new players decide if there are aspects of this game that they may find appealing on an individual basis.

If you are a new player and you have been playing WoW or any other game with quality gameplay and not SWG, with not one hour invested in previous versions of SWG, I would give it a 3.

If you have invested countless hours and can put up with a half complete game with broken content, it is a 6.

I cannot see how anyone who has been external to this game could ever play it for more than the included month. The game has so many flaws and the graphics are dated at best. Lag is terrible. You haven't experienced lag until you have experienced SWG lag. There is NO WAY IN HELL if I were just coming into this game that I would even consider staying a second month. It is a flaming PoS in terms of quality.

I just cancelled my second account. I waited for publish 3. It's trash. Smuggling system - crap. GCW - crap. Hell they just gave back the combat log. That's the best thing about the publish - getting the combat log back!

Complete cluster. 2 out of 10.

    I would rate it a 7.5.

Some things I enjoy about the game:

    • The community.  Bad apples happen, but not all that often.
    • The combat.  There, I said it.  I like the speed of combat that we have now, to me it's more engaging.
    • Expertise.  I'm liking the new stuff they're giving the professions and unlike previous instances of the game, there is actually a use for all the abilities you aquire through the expertise trees.
    • Crafting.  Alot of the time I spend in game is spent as a crafter (one of the more popular Armoursmiths on Chilastra).  I enjoy aquiring new resources and improving on my existing layers and improving on what my competition is selling.
    • Space.  I enjoy jumping in my TIE Oppressor (or sometimes my Firespray :P) and jumping into Deep Space for a while.  I also like tinkering with the components of my ship to increase its performance.

The reason I haven't rated it higher is that there are some things I do think need working on still.  Firstly, not all professions have their expertise yet so those without have to try compete against those that do have it.  Crafting hasn't been touched since the release of the game, yet the combat side has had two revamps since then, so crafting and combat are kinda out of synch at the moment for some of the crafting professions. I'd also like to see more highend content added into the game on a regular basis.  I'm not running out of things to do at the moment, but it would be nice to have the option to go off and do something new.

    My primary reasons are:

    a.  The game isn't a Star Wars game anymore.  A huge percentage of the players are jedi, (because its given away as starting class, not earned or made not playable), even though the game is set during a time when jedi were all but extinct.  The Dev team is openly hostile to the Star Wars aspect of the game.  Space Balls Galaxies is more appropriate.

    b.  Essentially you are paying to play a beta.  Some classes are complete some are half baked.

    c.  No in game acheivment is safe.  SOE threw out years of player effort overnight with the NGE. (2/3rds of the professions were removed). SOE proved that they still do not respect player acheivement by stripping away everyone's faction rank without compenstion in the new faction system.  Nothing you acheive in game is ever safe.  One day SOE will decide they can recruit more players by invalidating what you have achieved.

    Unrateable.    (0)

This game is not finished yet.

In it's current state I do not think it can be rated due to it's changes and issues and in light of what it can be described as by it's own producers.

I feel that while this game has changed 3 times, it is still no where near a polished product.   If it was

MMOs do include change, but when the change takes you backwards then somthing is wrong.

I think the NGE version of SWG speaks for itself, in numbers, reports, reviews, comments and the press not mention subs.   The fact that no extra servers have been added, no population increase or any press related to how well it is doing says alot.

At this point the game is just that....Once a world is now just a sub-par game

I rate it a solid 7 at this point.  There are still some bugs that need fixing, but had I rated this same version before WoW I probably would have rated it an 8.5, WoW has really raised the bar for MMO's

    What I like about NGE:

    * PvP combat is much more balanced, Jedi are no longer the Uber end all be all (I wonder how many people that are pissed about NGE are pre-CU Jedi??)  There are still balancing issues to be resolved but they seem to be minor.

    * Newer content is more story driven.

    * I don't have to make 1 million sandwiches and dance a thousand dances to be a Jedi

    * It doesn't take months of grinding to become a master crafter and make decent quality goods.

    * All vendors are accessable at the bazzars in cities, i.e. put your goods up and people can see them anywhere in the galaxy.

    * Flying an X-Wing and blowing up tie fighters in space, tweaking said X-Wing and making lots and lots of missiles :)

    * Multi-passenger vehicles

    * More star warsy flavor of the game over all (spaceships added alot here)

    * Mining in space is like that old 2D game asteroids ( a fun diversion )

Things that they need to work on still

    * More space content
    * A little more depth in the crafting trees
    * Mending bridges with the old community
    * Fix bugs with instances
    * PvP Balance tweaks on ground (melee should be weak vs. ranged and ranged weak vs. melee)
    * PvP Balance tweaks in space (should not be able to put cruiser sized blasters on fighters)

All in all it's a much better game than it was, I find PvP much more fun and enjoy a bit of crafting and the whole flying around in a space ship thing.

The game gets a 3, and I guess im feeling generous today.  What I like about the game is the look of the worlds and the customization of the characters, at least the appearance of the characters.   What I dont like about the game is the combat, the linear gameplay, the limiting nature of the professions, and loneliness of the servers.

Heh, yeah, I remember the days of hologrinding and such, now it's as easy as a click. I recently resubbed for a month for S&G. I created a "Force Sensitive" character for the hell of it to take a break from my commando.

his name is "OneClick Jedeye". One Click and *poof* you are a jedi.

nope, it has put the bar lower so every one, weather you have a brain or not, can play. perfect marketing, perfect way to get money, perfect way to destroy those who actually loved the complexity of the game. thx god there is still games like EVE.

and as far as the rating? meh a middle 5

reasons: expertises are a step in the right direction

JTL although there hasnt been much update it is still fun to have your guild 20-30 players in kessel fighting rebel xwings in 2-3 fully manned POBs (2 gunners 1 pilot 1 ops and a repair crew) plus some escort fighters.

    PreCU: 9
    CU: 7.5
    NGE: 2

    Extremely Quick Synopsis:
Sure preCU was buggy and incomplete, but that half of a game was more fun for me than any other MMO I've tried since then.
The CU brought around some balance between professions which was nice for people who were too stubborn to move to a more "effective" profession, but it got more mainstream with the level-based combat that was added.
The NGE took out most of the professions, made Jedi a starting profession, became more linear in terms of quests and character advancement, and while some old bugs were eliminated, many new ones were created.

Je mettrai l'amour sur dos de moi.

Jedi were never uber in PvP i do not know what your talking about

Anyway i give it a 4, the combat system is terrible but space is still good (they havn't changed that yet) and some of the community is there, and if you never played it you do not know everything thats missing which can make it bearable

but as stated in other peoples posts your playing a bugged beta where some proifessions are finished and some are not.

6.3 is a generous score... I would find another game to play if I were you.  I base this off of playing for 3 years.

    5.5

I would have to say a "5.5" because it is still a broken game that subscribers are paying for. Their are lag issues
    ubber band issues and bugs.

Although to be fair we are recently seeing more bugs being fixed and a dev presence on the boards per dev digest. And the talent tree is a good direction for PVP. Hopefully the future will at last pan out for SWG. But at this time they get 5.5 out of ten from me.
