Horde or alliance first, secondly what will be your main enjoyment of the character PvP or PvE?

Well, I found WoW-wiki [ http://www.wowwiki.com/Class ] good for Class Overviews when I was getting started. It has a nice table with a loose outline of what you can probably expect from your Class's abilities at DPS, Tanking, Healing and so forth. I'm by no means a WoW expert but that Table looks accurate enough. Each class's article has a nice bit of info on the classes to.

I'd say pick the Class you're most interested in 1st, then side, then pick a race you like the looks of (or like the looks of their Racial Traits). I've got a Gnome Mage at the moment and have found it a quite fun class to play.

I have played both Horde and Alliance charcaters to the 30's so I can give you a few insights.

If your a roleplayer, chances are your better off with Alliance, simply because it lends itself to traditional roleplaying styles, being humans and dorfs etc.

If your not an RPer and you prefer a "younger and louder" crowd, well they seem to be on the Horde side. Others may have experienced different things on different servers, but to me this has been pretty consistent across the 3 servers I have played on.

Guilds seem to be basically the same on both sides, there are good and bad.

Horde to me is more fun and less serious than Alliance and I also think the horde quests are better in terms of both quality and quantity.

Right now im playing an Orc Warrior (39.5 40 this weekend WOOT) on Steamwheedle Cartel called Grokl. Look me up if you like and Ill sling you a gold peice and some heal pots (Im an alchy) to get you started

Mage is a good choice because they are faily powerful and are always needed in groups.  Myself...I would reroll a warlock.  They are mage-like, but ridiculously powerful.  hehe, warlocks went from the most gimped class at launch to the most overpowered class.

I'd go with a Night Elf Rogue, god knows the alliance needs a few more of those.

    /end sarcasm

I'd pick druid, they are very under populated on most servers and all around they are a great class.

But they are the weakest 1-on-1 PvP class.  Druids can run and hide, but can 2 shot no one.  bird form will be fun with the expansion though.  I have a 60 Druid on Kel'Thuzad.

    Good choices.

I have a level 60 Troll Mage, and he is my favorite character (I have a level 60 Undead Priest and level 60 NE Druid).
I've played warlocks up to 30, but I think you'll like the mage better.

I find that the Horde has more friendly players, but that depends on the server. I started out playing alliance, and I can't stand playing it any more.

Mages are great solo, and you usually can find a group.

For sure Horde. You will have alot of advantages in PvP, yea alliance have it better with paladins in PvE but with expansion you will have em on Horde too so there is really no reason to play alliance. Please trust me I played this game since closed beta and made it 2 times to rank14 on alliance.

As for race, sure undead it just have the best racial skills .... Worst things can happen to you in PvP is fear, seduce, mindcontrol etc. and with wotf + insignia you will be near immune to it in addition to that wotf makes you also 5 sec. immune and just have a 2 min. cooldown instead if just insignia which has 5 min cooldown and doesnt make you immune.

For example I played alliance and horde, and to play like a Warlock / Priest on horde or alliance side is like day and night.

Now you know why all the ppls on horde side are undeads cause they just want the advantage, its fact sorry.

What do you mean by mage is great solo ? Every class in Wow can solo and do dmg. just fine. But if u mean fastest lvlers then hunters and rogues take this price. They just have no real downtime and do alots of dmg.

race is mostly cosmetics with some not very important racial traits.

pick race and side depending on your gamestyle.

class it all depends what you wanna do.Want to solo a lot with little or no downtime then go hunter .

want to heal?then go priest or druid.

want to cast huge nukes and area effect nukes then go mage.

want to dps melee style?go rogue

    want to tank?go warrior.

want to be a cross between a healer and a tank?go paladin

want to be able to be a cross between a healer and a nuker?go shaman

personally i suggest warlocks. They are good fun and provide good damage, have a lovely summon player spell which makes you pretty much liked in groups as there will always be a slacker or 2,can solo very well and are realtively easy to get into. Also unlike the rogue and hunter they are not that many around.Used to hardly find any but now their numbers have picked up i hear.

Mages can make their own food and drink. I didn't mean that they were the fastest levelers, you are right huntes and rogues are. Playing a caster without being able to make your own mana drinks, means you have to spend money on buying them, spending time going to buy them, etc. I meant self sufficent.

I disagree with the person that said that younger people play Horde more often.  It has been my experience after playing a number of toons on both sides that the Alliance tends to have a more immature crowd.  Of course a lot of it varies from server to server.

Honestly the racials don't make a lot of difference enough to let those sway you.  Pick a toon that you don't mind looking at for hundreds of hours.

While locks don't have their own mana water, lifetap and mana drain are good ways for a 'lock to regain his mana without the downtime of drinking.

If you want to play a clothie and solo, there is no better way to go than to go warlock.

That's one of the major reasons, if I roll alliance, I either roll human or nelf chicks. I dislike the look of all gnomes, dwarfs are silly looking, human males look like they've all taken steroids and nelf males look like pansies.

Well i have a human-priest and its fun. A priest can be hard to lvl up though cuz they die easy. But if your very social like me, its very easy for a priest to find a group cuz every group needs a healer. also if your very social do some kind of crafting profession too. People love you when you can make them stuff that is cool.

If your social you can also roll a Night Elf female (class doesn't matter) and run around naked, and oh, be sure to name your toon Iliketocyber, cyberme, or something along those lines.  You will be very popular.

A level 40 warlock can have darkpact, which allows him to steal mana from his pet -in combat-.
An affliction lock can easily take on elites a couple of levels over him.

Okay i was talking about being something useful. a naked night-elf female is not useful. And people with names like that are retarded. Im glad to know your idea of being social is hanging around naked night-elves.image What i meant is that if you become somthing that people NEED then your more likely to find a group. :)

    ur an idiot...

warlocks had 1 buff like a year ago and werent even "powerful" until like a month ago when it became popular to hate them.

BTW...warlocks are almost NOT needed end game...

And no....warlocks arent overpowered...this guy just probably sucks at pvp and doesnt know how to kill locks...i have no problem raping them.

I disagree. Warlocks provide soul stones, summon people, provide off-tanks, and lay down some serious DOTs. Also, depending on the fight, warlocks are needed for their mana drain abilities.
