Asherons Call making a comeback? Populations say "Yes"...

Asherons Call POPULATIONS:

Thursday night 2 weeks ago, 7pm MTN:

Frostfell server: 157
Darktide: 183

--------------

Thursday night 1 week ago, 7pm MTN:

Frostfell server: 192
Darktide: 218

---------------

Thursday night, June 15, 7pm MTN:

Frostfell server: 279
Darktide: 305

-----------------------------------------

Definately not enough information for hard proof that AC is making any definate comeback, but it looks good. These are accurate numbers as reported through the Decal agent with a populations Decal add-on. Keep in mind that Frostfell is one of the lower populated servers today as well, Morningthaw has quite a bit higher population probably in the 300-400 range.

    If that's a comeback, I'm John Smedley.

    I'd make an obligatory SOE joke here, but it's too easy these days.

    Now, if you had said Jeff Kaplan, maybe...

    Good.  I hope it does.  I hated seeing AC2 go away.  And I really like Turbine as a company.

    Maybe it's because they are offering the Direct2Drive download on Fileplanet now.

    I've thought about playing it myself.  But I'm playing another "retro" game right now.  Everquest.  Hehe.
    All the new games suck.  I'm having to go back and do the old MMO's again to have fun.

    I think I will try Asheron's Call as soon as I finish up with Everquest.  I'm not anticipating anything new to be fun until Warhammer Online comes out.

    I hope you're right Zaxtor99.

    There have been a lot of people dedicated to the game for a long time.  So there must be some magic there.

    It all seems so stupid
    It makes me want to give up
    But why should I give up
    When it all seems so stupid

    Hey kimmar... I also hope that I am right. I will monitor the populations for the next month or so and start getting a number for each server...

    And about the magic of AC, you couldn't be more right about that. AC set standards in the mmo market back in 99 (almost seven years ago) that still today have not been even remotely matched.

    All I know is that I hope I am right. The day that AC shuts down will be a really hard day for me and I'm sure thousands of others to endure. I still honestly believe that AC has many years left, but still... that day will come. I just wish that a few more of these new mmo players would get the opportunity to experience it and see exactly what makes a great mmo and why great current gen graphics aren't required to make for an insanely fun, magical mmo experience.

    I remember when the populations where in the thousands every day per server.

    That was a long time ago before these dark times of millions of generic fantasy worlds. I started with MMO's with AC back when there where only 3 of them on the market. (UO, EQ and AC)  But the good old days are gone and all that remains are the buffbots.

    Why do people argue that it's not ? it's a classic MMO, if it's coming back cool. If not, then I hope they get enough to keep going.

    What reason could anyone have to post a flame about this other then a cry for attention.

    Personally I think Turbines first attempt at MMOs (AC) is way better than their current attempt (DDO) and I find that rather amusing.

    I love AC... and in fact, this post has made me want to sign up again. To AC!

    Wow that's all that are playing now????  That's really scary.  While I never particularly enjoyed AC (at least not enough to subscribe more than 1ce (I played 2 months of retail when it first came out)) it's definitely sad to see a game that helped define the industry at such low populations.  For the sake of those who love the game I hope it does recover... but those numbers are frightening.  If it doesn't grow I wouldn't be surprised at all if Turbine pulled the plug.

    They should try releasing a free trial... that might generate more interest...  Then again... Turbine's marketting acumen has never been very good (one of the reasons AC's population is so low in the first place)

    Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

    Still in: A couple Betas

    I still play the game, and I've been seeing a rise in populations in Leafcull. I saw like 280 a week ago, but now I see 320+ a lot.

    I remember over 2000 people in the server way back in the first year of the game. Hopefully we can get at least a few hundred more per server.

    Absolutely Elnator...

    For the life of me, I can't understand why Turbine doesn't throw out a simple 15 day free trial or something. I think that a couple of simple free trials would do wonders for the populations for a while. Then.. when the numbers started going down again, throw out another free trial and advertise it a bit. What could it hurt?? That is the one thing I'll never really understand about Turbine. And it's not like fans haven't been telling them this. I bet there has been atleast one post on Asheron's Call's own website forums about this for years now. Truly sad to say the least. To me, it's actually amazing that AC is still even running and has any damn players with the almost zero advertising and retail availability they have had for the game over the past several years.

    I dunno.

    Heh. I played it for 6 years since the year it came out, and I recently quit for good partially because the game isn't the way it used to be. Partially because of that **** marketplace. And the fact that you get no one new joining.

    But if thats a comeback, that sucks. I remember when the servers used to have 4-8,000 players each easily...

    I do understand ya... but I also hate to break it to you -

    The Asheron's Call servers at NO TIME ever had 4,000 to 8,000 players each. They only topped at about 120k (all servers) after the Dark Majesty release back in late 2001. For them to have 8,000 pplayers per server, they would have had to had more then half of the subscribers online and that simply doesn't happen bud.

    I think I do however remember some of the servers at peak times getting around 3,400 players or so but that was about the maximum that I ever remember seeing on one server.

    Regardless, you are correct. The server populations today are sad. But there are actually a LOT of new players (or atleast new toons) seen raoming the landscape. Just today in FF, I saw no less then 10 different level 5 to 8 toons in Holtburg running around.

    We'll see where it goes from here.

    Magestorm ruled, and it died this year. Legends of Kesmai died years ago. My grandfather died last week. AC is a cool game, and itll expire.

    Kickass things dont  last forever. Its a shame.

    More Population numbers:

    One week ago, Sunday 2pm MTN time:

    * Darktide: 303, * Frostfell: 277, * Morningthaw: 312, * Harvestgain: 199, * Leafcull: 276, * Solclaim: 220, * Thistledown: 265, * Wintersebb: 155, * Verdantine: 88

    Today, (Sunday, 2pm MTN time:)

    * Darktide : 389 (28% increase in 1 week)
    * Frostfell: 334 (21% increase in 1 week)
    * Morningthaw: 407 (30% increase, 1 week)
    * Harvestgain: 236 (19% increase, 1 week)
    * Leafcull: 301 (9% increase in 1 week)
    * Solclaim: 244 (11% increase in 1 week)
    * Thistledown: 291 (10% increase in 1 week)
    * Wintersebb: 208 (34% increase in 1 week)
    * Verdantine: 119 (35% increase in 1 week)

    Last Sunday, 2pm total players playing AC = 2,095
    This Sunday, 2pm total players playing AC = 2,529
    ------------
    TOTAL INCREASE FROM JUST LAST WEEK = 21% OVERALL, In just ONE WEEK... Same day of week, Same time of day

    This is the second set of numbers that I have drawn that conclude that Asheron's Calls populations are indeed on a VERY FAST increase! 21% in 1 week is absolutely great.. as long as this trend continues, you could expect more and more players to join as the populations continue to rise.

    If you loved AC and are thinking about playing again, just wish there were more people.. I highly encourage you to come back now!

    If you never have tried Asheron's Call, ..What a great time to get in and see exactly why this game continues to go on and on and on like the 'ol Energizer bunny almost 7 yeats after it's original release.

    $19.99 at www.direct2drive.com. 30 days included for free.

    I am not trying to spam, rather trying to encourage players to help keep this great game alive and thriving with a great community!
