I usually play on my days off in the morning and for a couple of hours late at night when the wife and kids are asleep. So, somewhere between 15-20hrs a week I'd say. When my wife is home, I usually don't play. Even on my days off I don't play the whole day. I'll play from like 9am - 1pm , get lunch and then do chores around the house, mail out bills, wash clothes, mow lawn watch T.V., read, play golf, bowl, shoot hoops or go to a movie. So I mixed regular part of Real Life with fictional MMORPG life.
Of course if I was single like before, I'd probably would be playing MMO and console games for 40hrs a week. I wouldn't have to dedicate as much time to the family. There are people in their 20's, who are on their own, with no GF and only a few friends, who do nothing but play these games. I don't know how they do it. My eyes would be bleeding if I spent 18hours a day playing these games.
Hell with the way society is shaping up now a days I would rather spend the extra time I have at my computer. This way I dont have to put up with the idiot drivers whos kids cant behave in the car/stores ect or people that want to talk on their cell phones and put makeup on while driving. Ill stay at home (braving the world now and then to spend time with friends/work) and play my games.

You make an incredibly ignorant judgement, when you try to assert that hardcore gamers don't have real lives.
I'm a hardcore gamer, have been all my life. I work very hard in the 'real world', being part owner of a fulltime music biz. The assumption that hardcore gamers lack real lives is absurd. As a matter of fact, the more hardcore a gamer truly is, the more likely that person is to find lucrative ways of combining their gaming passion with their paying job.
How do you think game devs, graphic artists, story consultants, music/soundtrack producers, etc., get from playing something they like... to making the next big thing on the gaming scene? They don't just sit off in a corner of their 'real job world', daydreaming about 'someday' playing more games.
They work their butts off, believing in what they do.... & doing what they love.
I'm an older gamer, & I'm thrilled to be at a point in my own life where my partner & I can be steering our own hard work into the field we truly love- Hardcore Gaming!
And for ALL the spouses/partners out there who have a significant other who's truly supportive of your gaming passion... make sure you let them know what a treasure they are to you...between level-ups!
Seriously, though, for all you hardcore gamers, don't let anyone deter you from your life passion. Go for it, & find the ways you need to make it 'work' for you. Peace & Happy Gaming!

Describe *Life*
If you think life is going out, getting drunk and smoking dope, or pushing pills, then go out and do it.. )Although I don't encourage this :P)
If you think life is playing video games all day long, then do it
Like somebody said, life is what you make it
Sometimes, it is better to say nothing at all. Cause big mouths results in big words, and big words travel like bacteria.
