Are you one of the people who are still trying to recapture the glory of your first ever MMO experience?

I started back in the days of the first home PC's the 8086 and moved on
from there as they got more powerful. My first experience to
the MMO's of today were text based MUDs and I have seen the dramatic
changes to both the internet market and the gaming industry as a whole.

I read a lot of different boards about people bashing game XYZ becuase of ABC reason.  I'm just wondering how many out there are hopping from one MMO to the next trying to recapture the old glory from days gone by.  When games had communities, a 'chinese farmer' was someone who grew rice or farmed animals in China and netiquette was a respected term.

Personally, i cant say im trying "relive the glory days". but i have played every MMO on the list. Too many of them feel the same, and to many of them are lacking something. For me the jumping from one mmo to the other is just trying to find the one that is the best, the one that doesnt lack, the one that isnt exactly like the rest just withone different thing. CoV and CoH just came out iwth good vs evil edition and you have to buy it when it should have been that way from day one. L2 and Arch Lord are exactly the same just different creatures. So id say the jumping for me is just the need to find the right game.

I'm honestly looking for a CoH 2.0. If it was exactly CoH with more varied content I'd get it.

I realise MMO is the mainstream now, my point is not wether its mainstream or not, but how many are jumping from one game to the next looking for that first ever MMO experience in a later game or simply just looking for the 'perfect' game for them.

You might get your wish with the new Marvel MMO, developed by none other than Cryptic Studios.

As far as the original topic is concerned, I'm definitely trying to recapture the glory of my first MMO experience.  It's definitely the best gaming experience I've ever had to date, so I'm eagerly trying to find another game to rekindle that feeling.

Many people who have been playing MMOs for a longer period of time tend to game hop as DemonIIXII said, and I think it's just a way for those people to try to satisfy their hunger for a similar experience.  I hope I'll be able to fill that void someday.  But for now, all I can do is jump from one game to the next.

By the time that's out my computer will be obsolete :D I'm pushing it now with these 2005 games. Maybe if I get an X-box that'll change but I'm going for a Wii now.

I haven't really jumped many times.  I started out with UO for a bit, then moved on to AO.  AO was really my first true experience, since I didn't play UO long enough.

I played AO for 4 years.  I left AO sometimes to try the new 'hot' game, like Shadowbane, SWG... both were terrible to me.  I left for WoW, it was good for a while, but then I started to not like it because I realized everything was a grind.  Tried EQ2 after that, played it for over a month and quit, just not my kind of game.

So, I guess ya I've tried to find a similar experience I had in AO, all of them not really coming close.  But I think one thing mainly has to do with this, at least for me.  It was my first MMO, I didn't know what to expect.  All the ones after that, I knew what to expect.. or at least I had an idea.  So I don't think I'll ever endup playing another MMO for 4 years again, just because... I know what they are now.  And too me, nothing out there right now is as open, and well thought-out as AO.

I just play UO if I want to bring them back. [on free shards of course.]

definitely not trying to recapture old glories, but looking forward to the next big thing. I mean a multiplayer persistant game does not have to be along the lines of existing mmorpgs.

I'm always looking forward to new experiences. I've realized that I have extremely memorable moments in many of the online games I've played over the last 10+ years, even up to this year.

Why try to recapture when you can constantly capture?

My first MMO was preCU SWG. Not much more to say about that.

    Same here.

I've been jumping between MMO's as crazy after that went to the grave.
