Housing in UO

I am considering starting back up.  I played from the beginning and had a great assortments of houses, a tower, and two story.  I loved the housing system in the game.  I heard you design your own house now, seems kinda neat.  Is it possible for a new account player to actually place a house on the shards?  Or is every spot taken like it use to be?

     There is alway spots both large and small becoming available from houses collapsing, or for sale at very reasonable prices these days. Well reasonable for the modern UO era anyway,  gold seems to have gotten a bit out of hand both through the easier availablity of higher gold dropping monsters (many drop in the 2k gold each range) and the mistakes made by developers and the dupes and exploits that were taken advantage of by unscrupulous players showing the complete and utter lack of morality that a MMOs more or less uncontrolled player base (way too many parents buying thier kids subscriptions as babysitters and companions) environment creates.      The devs  had to remove quite a few billion gold from the economy a while back to try and alieviate some of the stress these dupes and exploits put on it. while they couldnt get all the duped gold out  (since the dupers  quickly spent and transfered it all around) it surely did have the impact of driving the cost of the more sought after items through the ceiling. Certainly not un-attainable by any means though, overall i don't think you will have a very hard time readjusting to the modern playstyle and economy.  The game is still GREAT fun  and has way way more to do now than ever and that is only set to expand  as they usher in new expansions and updates!     PS dont buy any hooded shrouds that are insured  and not blessed as the real ones are (thats the latest duped item)

    it should be added, that you can only own one house per account, if i am not mistaken.
    all characters on a shard are automatically co-owners to a house.

    and yes, they are fairly cheap, even for a noob, especially if you find someone to hunt with while weak. i had my first small house after 2 weeks casual play, i exchanged that for a bigger one now :D

    Our guild does world tours from catskills all the way around and end back up on cats we use an extra account to place a house while we visit to store power scrolls and whatnot and we have always found a nice sized house in fel first day there so the spots are there just gotta find em once we move on we drop it and move but I've seen tons of spots even keep spots on some shards.
