well i just want to say a few things fisrt all of this is IMO. also my info on most games are a little out dated mmorpgs are allways changeing if they don't the are a flop.
second there are 3 types of online gamers
1: softcore = only spend a few hours playing a week and go for the fast in fast out game (similar to singleplayer rpgs like the FF games)
2: hardcore = those people much like myself that want to spend every wakeing hour playing a game that has so much depth to it you may never see it all.
3: PVP = those people that like to kill people they refer to the PVE players as carbears (this type can be both softcore or hardcore).
if you are type one you will like AC2 it is a good break from a hardcore game. i have never played AC1 but from what i have read and heard from others it is more of a type 2 game.
type 2 people aren't going to like AC2 as much cause it is easy to reach the high end game and have nothing left to do. i was able to get a level 40 toon in 3 days on one of my free trials. i have played 4 i also was involved in the beta (not really i was a free download to test server load). this type seems more geared for AC1 or EQ (my first mmorpg).
type 3 on the other hand might not enjoy AC2 wether they are softcore or hardcore. i didn't see many good things about pvp/rvr in ac2 sept for a few extra skills. what got me into this catagory was DAOC the RVR in that game is the best i have played as of yet.
The main thing here is you can argue like those two in pages gone by or you can realize that how much money a game makes has nothing to do with how good it is. the type of game style is what determans if it is good or not. authentication means login and stuff not money DUH.
there may be more types of mmorpg'ers out there but i think you either fit into one of these three or a little of two. some may even fit into all three depending on the time of the month.
i can see AC2 doing great things but sence i am a diehard evercrack addict i am hopeing EQ2 does well. and i am in a game for the long run not for launch or 1 year down the road.
Ac2 has the potential to surpass other rpgs of the type one player but i don't see it winning over to many of the type 2's. with some work and it seems they have it could attrack many type 3's.
if i had to rate AC2 on a 1-10 scale i would give it a 7. why
graphics great
gameplay good
tradeskills frustrating
depth shallow
quests good
pvp needs work
game type 1
for a compairison i will use daoc i would give it a 9
>>It's hard to compare AC and AC2, one is 4 years old one is year old. Both are good and both really shine compared to "big" titles like EQ or SWG. They have interesting lore, lots of quests, static content (my biggest grief with SWG, random missions aka fed-ex missions = booooooring), good comunity.<<
Umm, actually both EQ AND SWG has and always had more content and more to do than AC2 EVER will. I'll be the first to say that SWG sux, and EQ is getting old, but I can't stand by and let someone say that AC2 "shines" in comparison when in fact AC2 is the LAST game I would waste my time on, I think I'd even play UO again before downloading the AC2 free trial.
If any AC2 fans need anymore accounts, I'll sell you 2 for 10 bucks each. let me know!
Alright, I got my AC2 account back up and live 2 weeks ago. Saw the new changes, nothing revolutionary but decent. Basically a lot of tweaking and nerfing to classes.
Still a boring hum drum game with no content. Servers have been condensed into a handful, one pvp one kvk, and still no one is on any of them. A couple to a few hundred on the few normal ones and a hundred or less on the pvp's.
A few new monsters are stupidly wandering about the wolrd waiting to be killed with no explanation on why i should do so besides getting some loot off their corpses. A new meaningless slideshow monthly event to watch that has nothing to do with anything.
The only fun I had was resetting my skills a few times. If I had a new character instead of my lvl 45 one to toy with this game would be even more pointless
No content?? How many quests did you do? Did you even get to Arramora? Or were you too busy resetting your skills all the time? And what exactly should a monster do beside wander around? Sit and have a tea with the rest of monsters?
I'm not saying that all ppl must like AC2. A few ppl posted that they don't like this game and gave meaningful arguments. Nothing wrong with that. But if you actually come to this forum to write about the game please post something meaningful not just 'mobs wander around' and don't comment what would be if you had new character since you obviously haven't tried that and therefore you have no idea.

Alright, first off, the quest system in AC2 is a major improvement over AC1. They rebuilt the system from the ground up and it completely works smoother and better. Yes, it took me time to get used to it, but after a few months of playing I can make an honest judgement that the new quest system is cleaner and more efficient. Also, if you say the monsters suck, I have a hard time believing you. Most of the time when people say this they didn't even make it past the beginning stages of the came to make a fair judgement. Like in most MMO's, the more you advance in a game, the more interesting features you unlock. I agree with you about AC1 being more fun, but I thought AC2 was bad for different reasons. And AC2 needs someone to stick up for them
Okay I apologize ahead of time if I make comments that are biased or opinionated, just let me know whats different now.
I am a vet. of AC1 and when AC2 was in development I was all excited like a small school boy at the end of the day. I beta tested it and found many things wrong with it, so I typed and asked to make changes (basically the same changes everyone was asking for), Turbine didn't listen to any of the suggestions, as it seemed. None the less I was impressed buy the graphics (which apparently is considered eye candy to people) I bought the game the day it came out and I played it expecting it to be a much more improved version of the original game AC, hence the name AC2. But they changed to much that most of the AC players didn't like it. Not because they couldn't get use to a new game, but because they were expecting it to be AC with more modifications and better graphics.(which wasn't the case, and if it was it would of been much better.) I played to the point where I couldn't anymore, where I got pissed at it for the lack of what AC offered (being a sequel it should have what AC has to offer and more.) They changed the buffs which was a good thing but in doing so they took out what it means to be a patron. Ac had patrons that would hunt with there vassals and help them level up, giving them better weapons and armor to protect them and of course buffs, and in turn the patron received xp from his vassals in return for what he did for his vassals. Thats what it meant to be a vassal and patron. In AC2 you cant buff people like in AC (which I consider a good thing) but along with that you cant give your vassal any weapons or armor because everything has a level cap, and its useless for the patron to give his vassal his old weapon after he finds a better one. So what the point of a patron now? To give them money? or to sit and become a meat shield? There is really no need for a patron anymore. Speaking of the armor and weapons, everyone of the same level had the same thing, there was no variance because of the level caps on the items, so you look like the guy standing next to you. (basically lack of content) Where AC has a wide range of items armor and weapons for you customize you character, they don't have level caps but level requirements.
The character creation in AC was better than in AC2, not the physical aspect of creating, such as looks (people refer to that as eye candy) but the skills and Attributes. Ac had an excellent system, you could take any skill that you wanted and put xp into any of your skills. Now for a normal player this seems unstructured, and it is, but that is what made it good. You had the chance to make your character the way you wanted, creating your own template and maximizing the characters abilities. Now AC2 had a great idea for the skill trees, but they limited you to a certain tree. If you wanted to make a template you couldn't for you could only have one sub tree (I think it was called) If you wanted to make a ranger/enchanter to maximize your characters abilities you couldn't, you restricted to being just a ranger and that was just like everyone else that took that path, the lack of identity or individuality that it gave you. You could even be a jack of all trades in AC if you wanted to, which isnt really suggested but it was your choice on what skills you wanted to take not the games presets.
The crafting was another thing, AC didn't have a crafting system originally, but you could dye items and later they added tinkering. So I applaud them for adding one but it wasn't anything to hype about. The system allowed you to make weapons but it was the same as everyone else, since crafted weapons were stronger than anything you found, everyone basically used there crafted weapon, and thus when you got to a certain level you could use the next weapon on up, as did every one else. So every one lvl 1 - 8 had one type, everyone from 9- 16 had another, and so on. They had a lack of identity and individuality again. Another issue I had was that there was no houses that you could walk into, they were just there to serve as obstacles to walk around, and only caused frustration. the whole time I was playing they never changed it.
Now I only played about 4 months but I don't know what the world is like now, I went back on for a free trial a while ago and it claimed that allot has changed, i went on and there were only about a eighth of the worlds that it had and there still was no houses that you could walk into. It might have changed and I would like to know what has changed from what I described.
This is why I think AC was ranked above AC2 at the time of the evaluation.
