While an MMO based on Starcraft would be interesting to say the least, Blizzard has already stated that this isn't going to happen.

I dont believe there wil be an World of Starcraft /World of Diablo. For Warcraft they created an storyline, books ect. ect. before the game came out. I don’t think they will  do any effort for Diablo or Starcraft. Although the possibilities for an MMORPG Starcraft are big…finding an legs for your zergling??. And rather see Diablo “3” as an good old fashion button basher/hack & slash game

    NEW RUMORS!

These rumors are true! Blizzard is searching for Map creators for a RTS, StarCraft 2, that's right, they are not going to make a new Diablo soons, maybe when WoW becomes a little old, then they will create World of Diablo.

Well WoW ruined the mmorpg world.  Everquest was really the only mmorpg that keeps the basic mmorpg alive!  And World of starcraft?  come on another loser.  What are you gonna do be a lil zerg and what will he wear for armor?

StarCraft or Diablo either one would be a great MMO. I think
that Blizzard could make them both very nice games. But you have to remember
the hype when WoW came out. It was supposed to be the MMO that changed the face
of the market, but it didn’t. It is essentially the same, and while it has the
most playability it isn’t really any different or better.

I think either of those games will be a long time coming,
especially since they gave up on Ghost because of WoW. That’s the same reason
so many high level members of Blizzard quit; because it’s all about the money
for Blizz now. Guild Wars is the only game out there that is really trying to
change the face of not only the gameplay, but of the business model. It’s done
an admirable job, but there are a lot of things with it that could be better
also. I don’t think another game is really going to try and break the shell
    until Spellborn.

I think it would be best to give up hope for either of those
games, at least for a long, long time. Blizzard has lost its edge and its
passion. I would recommend looking for other games, but I don’t know if you
will find any with lore as rich as theirs.

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

    — John Parry, to his son Will; "The Subtle Knife," by Phillip Pullman

You're pretty stupid, thinking EQ is the ONLY MMORPG. What are doing on this site if you ONLY like EQ. I don't say that EQ is bad, but WoW rox, same as Lineage, Dark Age of Camelot, and the earlier SWG. So shut up!

i would prefer a starcraft 2 as rts than a world of starcraft as a mmorpg

Agreed. StarCraft fanbase is centered around RTS. Its not meant for an MMO world, they already milked any fan boys with WoW, and you cant draw blood from a stone.

http://reviewmmo.blogspot.com Where I review any and all MMO's. Takes more then fancy graphics to impress me.

While WoW was very successful, any game developer needs to move on to other projects. Look at Sony and even Cryptic. Weather you like the companies or their games is not the issue, but they are developing other games to move on and grow.  They can maintain 1 game while developing others. Programmers and Artists are not sitting around planning WoW expansions. Would you agree that they have made enough money to support staff for WoW while developing others? We all know that Blizzard has 3 titles, Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo. Game companies try to make enough money to support creating their other projects, its why they take licenses such as sports or movies. But here's a case where a developers own title made so much money that it can support other games they did think they would have funds to develop. Ghost is gone. It was a disapointment to them and does not fit their
recent success. It will be a few years, but there should be new projects

As Raph Koster also proposed to the game industry, devlopers need to mine the "long tail". This means making money off of more than just the game. WoW is doing this with shirts, action figures, the new card game and the planned movie. Blizzard is smart and now has enough funds to develop BOTH projects in some form or another.
