Am I going to have to take notes for quests and draw my own maps?

I always hear talk about how Vanguard is going to be oldschool.  How oldschool?  Am I going to have to take notes all the damn time and hit the websites when I need a map to figure out where I'm going???

Some people hate quest journals, but I'm not in the mood to see local chat turn into "whrs the quest thingy please."  "how do i get back to start town pls".

I put my graph paper away a long time ago.

No, you won't have to do any of this.

i actually don't mind taking my on notes though, I must say, and I wouldnt care if they dropped the UI map either (or at leats made them so they had to be bought in game before being accessed...).

Don't worry, VG is very accessible, even for the lazier amongst you out there

I wouldn't mind if you had to take notes either.  At times though it is nice not having to take notes and having an easily accessible map.

ATM, the map does not allow you to make notes on it, and the quests are very vague.  The compass will give you an indicator leading you to the quest npc, but not for mobs that need to be killed.

In some videos that Brad posted showed him bringing up a map in game and iirc there is a quest log of some sort.

what would be nice is being given a blank map and notebook at the begining which you then create for yourself ,a quest log and map.

edit- maybe even include a cartography skill to get more detailed maps, which you can then sell?

that is a interesting idea, though I'm sure some people would complain that they should not have to buy maps. maybe do that for only parts of the world like dungeons or high level areas, for example.

The game will have a journal and a map, loeslein...click below for quotes:

Maps, navigation and the travel journal

Will there be some sort of journal to keep quests?

    UI...if interested.

I like to have to take notes sometimes. I still have a A4 pad that ahs all my original notes and maps from when I started EQ. I can look through and see the weapons I was thinking of buying when I was a noob. I even have a contact for some guy that was going to sell me a bronze weapon for about 30pp...it's only now I realise I was being conned .

It's nostalgia; you can't keep the travel and quest journal for ever, sitting in a closet somewhere.

I'm toying with the idea of having my own personal website/blog for my character in Vanguard. Just to write down the equipment he/she collects and the places I've visited.

Lol, maybe you ask Brad McQuaid if he recently acquired stocks for corporations selling chequered paper. *wink*

I like the idea of having to buy maps, or maps are made once you've travelled an area.  I think it adds to the realism.

There runs a very fine line between Realism and Fun.  Some people claim to want Realism, but then complain when it gets in the way of thier fun.

Buying maps would maintain both.  Now if the Devs at Sigil would listen :P

But making your own maps won't be a chore soon anyways once Flying mounts are availible to players.  Just fly over a city, look down and take a screen shot.  Instant map.
