New space MMO

Hello I just wanted to let everyone know that there is a new space MMO starting development called New Worlds: Rise to Power from Crimson Realms Entertainment.  This is a shameless self promotion post but we need to get our name out somehow.    If you are interested in seeing what we are planning on doing with the game then check out our website at www.crimsonrealms.com and if you have any questions about the game send them to newworlds@crimsonrealms.com.

Yes you can call it vaporware atm but we are still in very early development on this project and it will be a couple years before this game is released.  We are just trying to get our name out and let people know what we are working on.  All games should be considered vaporware until they are released even from larger gaming companies.  So I do agree with you that currently this is vaporware but we are planning on seeing this project all the way through and we already have a small development team collected together and business created to get this game on its way to completion.

What makes "Crimson Realms Entertainment" any different from Farlan, Limitless Horizons LLC, or any of these others who told us folks here that they were just as serious about getting the game out, but scammed, folded, or released unplayable stuff?

I mean, all I see at that website is one diagram, and a bunch of slow-loading flash static type thing.  As that woman from the Wendy's commercial said, "where's the beef?"

Well I guess you will just have to wait and see.  But we are not trying to scam anyone, release anything that is unplayable, or plan on folding.  There is no way to know what the future will bring, so I can't promise we will not fold, but we are serious about this game.  We almost have the backstory for the game done and will be added to the site soon.  Also we are close to getting enough of the game engine completed to start getting some graphics on the screen and getting some screenshots out.  All we wish to do right now is get our name and ideas out like I said previously and that is all.

My question would be, how many are on the dev team and how many have past experience making MMO's. The features you have planned are not very realistic if you don't have an experienced team of developers and a decent budget to work with.
  • Caelin79Caelin79 Member Posts: 22
That is a very good question Minsc.  We currently have 3 developers on the project at the moment but should be expanding to 5 in the near future.  Our current development team is very experienced in their assigned areas but are not experienced specifically with MMOs.  We are also planning on hiring more developers as the project progresses to the point where we will be adding those features and will be needing more help.  As far as our budget that is a private matter that we are not comfortable disclosing publicly.

Well my take on this is give them the benefit of the doubt. The space genre sure could use a few more mmorpg titles. I realize going into the mmorpg business is a very risky proposition that require absolute dedication, hardwork and luck. I wish you all the best Caelin79 in churning out a great product. Also forgive the doubting community here since quite a few people here have been burned by scammers peddling non-existant products (ie. Mourning).

Thanks for giving us the benefit of the doubt.  I hope to not let you down and everyone else here.  Also I am not taking any of this personally even though it is a little frustrating when you try to start up a project like this and get all the skepticism.  But I don't blame anyone for it as its the scammers fault for all of this that make legit projects like ours seem like a scam.

Welcome to the MMO community. You are way too early to bring your game to our attention since you dont even have any screenies to show us. You might spark some interest but it will be short lived, I doubt anyone can hold my attention by a few strings of text, you gotta feed our imgination with in-game clips, screenies, presentations or at least a lore-story or two.

I had never heard of Space Cowboy Online but I took a look at it and our game is actually going to be a mix of EVE and Space Cowboy Online.  From the perspective of being in space and on planet and also allowing players to choose combat or economy based activities through the idea of corporations and colonies which are two seperate forms of a "guild" type aspect in the game.

are you starting everything from scratch? or are you going to use someones game engine and modify it?

I love space MMO's. I sincerelly hope your game does not flounder or belly up because there are still so few on the market. Well so few good ones. The only Sci-fi themed games that look like they could be any good at this point are Tabula Rasa, and Star Trek: Online, both of which could go either way. I hope your game draws my attention away from the others, I would also much rather support a small developement company that one like perpetual or ncsoft. Looking forward to more details and information.

    Eternally mine,

Wish your company all the best Caelin79.

The first thing I liked about your post is honesty, a very important attribute in a company->player relationship.

Will keep an eye on your MMO.

SmurfMagic we are starting from scratch for the game engine but we will be using some open source libraries for specific things like graphics, audio, and etc.  I don't want to say which libraries we will be using at this time until we are further into the development process.  Hope you understand.

The game engine will support both OpenGL and DirectX.  Also there are plans to release the game on linux and Mac OS if the windows version takes off.

Personally without addressing the PvE player who just wants to enjoy a game without the necessity of having to deal with the rank and file constant PvP that exists in todays games you won't entice any to leave their current game of choice.

"Everything" is conquerable, sorry but I'm not interested in playing for a considerable length of time only to have everything I built or colonized taken away by another gamer or gamer group whose emphasis isn't on cooperative game play but rather conflict and who they can inflict misery upon. There are enough products in todays market that we'd need another one, definitely VaporWare.
