I am troubled by vets....

...who are going to give the trial a chance. So what if you get forum access? You also get to pad SWG numbers by re-upping your account. You can read about the publish changes on the Announcements section. Why go "see" for yourself? Honestly, anyone who played SWG for any amount of time before NGE knows that the publish notes tell you everything (except for the bugs that are introduced) that you need to know. I go back and check the boards every three or four months to see if they did anything to bring back some professions. It is mostly the same Jedi and BH additions/subtractions that seem unimportant when considering the glaring problems with the new system lacking what the old systems offered. Is a year old system new?! But I digress.....I know it is fun to annoy devs, forums fascists, and noobish fanbois but, seriously, don't let SOE tell LA that they have enticed old players back with their "new" changes. You guys (and girls) are better than that. Plus, it is troubling me :)

Better they use the trial to check on things then resub a few months down the road. Sure, Sony might use it to pad their numbers, but their numbers are bulls**t either way.

I guess that is the problem, some vets aren't willing to walk completely away from a game that is a shell of its former self.

    Nostalgia.

Right now.. my friends who have come back to the game is about 15. All but one quit after ONE DAY.

Personally I think it says more that a mess of us come back to try it
and don't subscribe. Even though they might say "Nyah Nyah.. you said
you wouldn't play it if it were free, yet here you are!!!"

Yep, even if they do add the free vet trial accounts to thaeir
subscription numbers for October, come November they are going to be
back to what they were in September.

Ultimately I decided the trial would only be an aggravating reminder of what we lost.  Not worth the hard disk space just to hear the music loading into Lok again ....

I feel the same way as the original poster.  Some of my guildmates are talking about everyone getting trial accounts to have a reunion.  I won't do it.  I have not really discouraged them since they all know how I feel and I don't want to insult them, but at the same time I am thinking how can you support SOE that way even if it is just for the trial or a single month.

I came back with the trial and played all of about 6-7 total hours, and of course was less than impressed with the changes. I think that having alot of vets coming back, trying out the updated NGE, and then leaving agian should be a strong statement to the powers that be of where the NGE is going and how successfull the future looks. I am proud to be one of the vets to go through the NGE revolving door.

I don’t know why it would bother anyone if a vet returned and tried out the game again, it’s their business and choice not anyone else’s. I know of 32 vets who I use to play a lot with return to try out the 21 day and all but three have decided to stay and reup their accounts. So I guess it really is a personal decision and I don’t see why it would be of any major concern to anyone. Bring it on down now.

    Yup.

Plus I can read what the game is like, and since it is NOT like the pre-CU, I have no interest.

As for SOE padding their subs numbers, I have to wonder why they would do so. After all, they don't release their subs numbers, so why pad them?

If I thought there was any chance of these people staying, it'd bother me. I haven't heard anyone say that they were thinking about staying past the trial. Nearly everyone I've talked to got sick of it after a few hours.

Yeah the trial falls in the 4th quarter.  Smed has to report year end subs/profits. I think with the free trial and new box set he is hoping to make the numbers look respectable for year end reporting.

I know there has to be a low water mark. A drop dead Sub # that if reached  means the death of SWG. You would thing 100k would be that number. I think the AAP bumps that number just enough to keep the game afloat.

I am hearing alot from Helios about not having the "resources" for developing certian things. Sounds like he is on a tight budget and I am starting to think that once the expertise and crafter/ent updates are done, SWG developemt will shut down. They will probably offer free transfers and consolidate down to 4-5 servers, if that, and let SWG fade into the sunset.

What is wrong with players (vets in this case) returning to the game, everyone knows that vets have been retuning to play the game for any number of reasons, so really what is the big deal in vets returning to the game??? Bring it on down now.

I'll be honest to all my other vets out there, I went back to NGE about 3 times since last november, but now I just can't go back anymore and be constantly dumbed down to what the game has become.  If vets wanna go back for the free trial and see if it's gotten better, let me tell you.....it hasn't. If anything the game is in worse shape than b4.  It's impossible to just let SWG die, I know how u feel but until we are presented with that old pre-cu or cu game that we all know and kind of love (cu), we have to move on. I tried WOW for a bit then went back to the NGE, it was pretty much the same except faster movement and glowie sticks.

I've gone back to SWG twice since "the change". Both times I got sick of it in less that 3 hours.  THe mechanics are dumbed down, blocky, and just plain stupid.  Any vet that goes back will instantly realize that the game isn't even a shell of its former self. It's a whole new game that just plain sucks.

I quit 5 weeks ago.  I see no reason to go back.  There is nothing in Pub 31 but utter rubbish.  The next publish promises to be even worse by throwing together expertise for the last combat professions that don't have it.

After that the game is likely to be shitcanned shortly after the holiday season.  I doubt there ever is another major publish after the next one.

Think they will move on to entertainers and crafters after this next publish?  HA...  They have at least half a year of nerfing to do first.  Assuming they have half a year left.  I think the Chicago Cubs have a better shot at winning the next 3 World Series than SWG does of making it to next October.

    Agreed.

This got me thinking. Having been chased out of swg by the CU and the NGE is kinda like having your best friend disappear to Thailand for six weeks and then show up for Monday Night Football as a women.
