PS 3 Will Win Console Wars.....probably

GorukhaGorukha Member Posts: 1,441

According to the study by Los Angeles based Interpret, 8.9 million U.S consumers ‘are prepared’ to pay full price ($500 or $600) for the PlayStation 3 this fall, compared to 5.7 million consumers who are willing to buy Wii at $250 and just 800,000 people who are willing to pay full price for Xbox 360 ($300 to $400).

This is pretty much what I expected, although I'm surprised the 360 numbers are so low, considering they have some awesome games coming out.

I can't wait to see how much Ebayers are willing to pay for a full PS3 system at launch.
I think the first 100 of them will probably be up around $3000.00.
Of course you will have the idiots bidding on empty boxes as well who don't read the item description closely.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

That's not accurate at all lol, the 360 has already far surpassed 800,000 units sold in the USA.

But honestly, I wouldn't be suprised if the PS3 somehow manages to do best.  I would be suprised if it far surpased everyone else like it has in previous generations (because of the price), but it has enough brand name recognition and enough die hard fans out there to keep it afloat....as much as I personally would love to see it fail. image

I won't be buying a ps3, and depending on the games, I won't be buying a Wii either...nor will I be buying an xbox 360.../sigh, there is just so little to get excited about this time around.

If I was getting a system for free, I would choose the ps3 of course, if I was going to buy one, it would probably be the Wii, but again, that all depends on the games that come out...if it turns out to be like the DS then there is really no reason to purchase a Wii, cause the games will mostly suck.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Its very old, but thats the announcement that Xbox360 sold 600k units.

I personally expect PS3 to win the console wars, just like the previous two.

Not that it matters to me. console gaming has become way to expensive, or at least here in europe. 700$ for a system + a whooping 65$ a game, that you will beat in a day or 4 because it takes too long to create a game with content and full of graphical detail.one of them has to go, and it eems its the content that gets the shovel. No thanls.

Senario A: The PS3 is a hit, and people say "Buy it, its worth it!" and sony makes millions.

Senario B: The PS3 bombs, sony is ruined.

    take your pick.

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

Even if 8.9 million are prepared to pay full price, only 400K are going to have the opportunity to actually act on that come this fall/winter.

That's exactly what I was thinking. There are going to be 8.5 million disappointed people.

That's why I said probably. Although if people are willing to fork up the cash they will probably be willing to wait a few months for more units to be made.

Also this is a projection of people willing to buy consoles.  So it isn't talking about how many people BOUGHT the 360, just how many are still willing to buy it, for some of you folks who are confused.

I think (and hope) that for the first time in many many years, the Wii will actually come out on top. at $220 its actually a reasonably priced Xmas or birthday gift for kids, and you can't forget about Zelda, Smash Bros., and all kinds of fun party games (if you haven't ever made a drinking game out of mario party, you haven't lived! image).

Who gives a shit who wins the console race honestly? I never understood console fanbois...it's a singleplayer venture for the most part...buy what you enjoy.
If PS3 sells 600 or 6 million units, what does it matter?

That is a ridiculously good idea. Unfortunately there is a pretty definite line between the friends I play consoles with on a Wednesday and the friends I get fucked up with on weekends. I'm a rare hybrid.

Did you call me a console fanboi ? I don't even plan on buying any of the 3 new ones :)

I am kinda of a Sony fan though and I hope this news puts anyones fears to sleep about PS3 getting killed.

The future of the gaming industry is at stake?

To add, I don't really understand console fanboys either. If the console has games that are good, then I'm going to like the console and support it by buying and playing those games. By limiting yourself to one side, you miss out on a lot of cool shit.

Yea, if we are taking bets on who comes out on top in the game market, my money is on Nintendo. image

Heres how I see it... If PS3 is a huge success and Wii flops, this is the end of innovation in video games. Developers will see that it doesn't pay to try new things, and that shiny new pretty graphics are the only future. If the Wii is a huge success we will see a lot more innovation in the future of video games. My $$ is on Nintendo here.

Hooooly shit dude, I'm not the only one! My fraternity always plays drinking mario party. Each coin you get in a mini-game represents how many drinks you can give out. I'm guessing that's the universal way to do it.

When I saw the Wii I was like "omfg this is the perfect drinking game machine" and that's why I'm going to go pre-order one today. Wii sports comes free, and I would imagine that will be pretty awesome for a party game. I'm pumped.

You sir, deserve food, money and a medal. This is the best damn post concerning console babble ive seen in awhile.

I bought a 360 about 2 weeks ago, because PC games are just shitty, and MMO's are pissing me off due to lack of uniqueness. The only PC game im looking forward too right now is NWN2. I love Nintendo and hate Microsoft and Sony even more, but I bought a 360 anyways because its out there, and I could get it without having to prove myself a dumbshit and give some other dumbshit $2000 for a PS3 pre-order, or stand in line for 37 hours.

Very few people realize how important the Wii is to the gaming industry, because quite frankly this is the last hope for man if we want to evolve past D-Pads and 3 pound controlers and this "grafphix r4 l337 d00dz" attitude 66.6% of the industry is in right now. Its obvious Sony has no intention to deviate from its current and long standing path of "just put a bunch of new stuff on it and price it high, kthx" and Microsoft hasnt been in the biz long, so its hard to tell which way they are going, as of right now its a middleground. Whichever it may be, Microsoft and Sony have no vision of the future of gaming, they just want the penny's ASAP.
