Single player content an improvement?

I played DDO at launch for a month and quit as there didn't seem to be anything to do solo while waiting for a group to form.  I read that Turbine has added some solo content to address this.  Anyone have any opinions on whether is has helped the game?

I really wanted to like this game, but based on the hours I was available to play finding an effective party was regularly impossible.

Thanks,

A

I had the same experience. I played for around 3 months I gues... got a Pally to level 7 and lost interest. Id be keen to hear how much has changed because I wanted this one to be good too, but it just didnt grab me.

I played DDO during CB and never actually bought the game (because the lack of quests/crafting/pvp/etc.) - but a month i tried to play again and check out all the changed they made - to see if its any good and worth my time/money - now.. about ur question - to my opinion the single player content is a total crap - for me the best part in MMO (and espically in DDO since there is nothing else to do there) is to play WITH friends - however with the "single content" a lot of ppl are going solo (since its eaiser then to search for a party) - and it makes the rest of us (those who actually like to play with ppl and not in a "single player") harder to find a party... but, since they only added the "solo content" to the low lvls (so far) - it doesnt effect too much (once u hit lvl 4/5) - however, im sure that they will keep going the same path - which means that sooner or later they will add the solo content to the higher lvls as well :/ - too bad since the game have a good potential (atleast they are trying to "fix" some of the problems with the new PvP system).

Bummer.  I was thinking of trying it out again.  I was in the beta, but didn't particularly enjoy it as much as I wished (being a huge DnD fan).  I STILL can't get over twitch combat in DnD.

Are the hardware requirements still rather high?  I have an AMD FX-53, 2 Gigs of RAM, and an ATI x800 XT, and my system CRAWLED.  image

Wow Gammit100 your system is better than mine and I run the game on max settings!  Your system should be more than adequate, as far as changes since beta, I played the game from beta 1 till release and decided not to buy due to the missing classes, low level cap, and other various problems that have just recently been fixed.  I did go back recently when I found a copy of the game for $15.  They did impliment alot of new features and fixed all the major bugs that were in at release, and the new module looks pretty neat, but the problem I have with the game is the elitist guilds that refuse to PUG and the increasing difficulty as you level your character to get into any worthwhile groups due to this, not to also mention the fact that, like WoW, you are expected to build your toon a certain way (ie: race, enhancements, gear) or you will be promptly booted from a group.  I have moved to a new server recently and am noticing the same problem.  So I will not be renewing my sub.  This was the same problem that occured in Shadowbane.  I played in beta thru 1 year after release, came back when it was free and BAM! Couldn't get into a guild to save my life.

So I guess DDO will eventually collapse in on itself and become a niche type game who's veteran player base refuses to let anyone new join in their fun, oh well...lots of other good games on the horizon!

    Edited some mistakes!

I was playing it on an old Athlon 3200+ XP with 1g of ram and a 6600GT at 1600x1200 and "very high" textures and rarely had a problem. I'd have to turn things down a bit if I had other programs like torrent downloads running in the background, but that's expected. I did have a strange ever-increasing slowdown problem when I had an old install of Windows 2000 on, but a fresh install fixed everything. I put XP on later and my memory no longer liked my hefty overclock for some reason while playing, but turning the memory down a little fixed it.

One thing of note I remember is one server in particular had horrible lag for awhile, and maybe still does. I think it started with a G, but I'm sure you can find posts complaining about it over at the DDO forums. It was apparently just the one server that had massive lag problems, and it wasn't even the most populated. Just was something with the server.
