COx or WoW?

I was an avid EQ player back in the day, then I played COH/V for quite some time but had to quit due to budget issues a few months back. I recently saw the South Park WoW episode and even though it satirezed the game, it actually peaked my interest. The game is now $20 and I want to get back on the MMO wagon, but then I thought about it. Why waste $50 buying WoW and a game card (don't have a credit card so I HAVE to buy a gamecard) when I can just spend $30 for anouth COx gamecard and get back to my lvl 30 char. So the question becomes... does WoW actually live up to the hype or should I proudly stay behind COH/V? I can't afford to play both.

You can get a 10-day free trial for WoW from the main website or fileplanet and see if you like it or not.

I'd suggest CoX. There's a trial here and the websites. CoX can be a bit repetitive in the beginning, but not after about lvl 15+ (which is easy to get to)

I play CoX for 2 years now.  I aggro against WoW after 1 day of playing.

Really, WoW is an overgrown tutorial for EQ, while CoX is unique and ahead of it time.

However, you already left CoX, so it is really up to you.  Some peoples who play both will find better aspects in WoW, but most usually end up on CoX side.  WoW appeal to casuals and then try to change them into hardcore raiders; which is a mistake.  WoW success it linked to it appeal to casuals, not to the fact they try to change them, in fact it will be their demise.  You don't change players, at least not that much.  You have to accept that the average players doesn't raid because...they don't like it.

I could praise all the good aspects of CoX, but honestly, you already play the game.  It has improve with I7, but it is a slight progression only, nothing breathtaking.  Yet, each little step matter...and they finally are over with the endless nerfing.

Id side with CoX. Simply put I had fun in WoW for a long time but in the 4 months of CoH Ive had WAY more fun. Now to be fair after playing WoW I took a 9 month break and have been playing CoH for 4 months. Everythings new agian to me. SO maybe even WoW would be fun. I like CoX because of the complex nature of the storyline. I play a hero which has a twin. They both are good and develop robots to fight the council. One is a hero one is a villian. They get to there goals thru diffrent ends. Ive had people come up to me in both games and go, hey didnt I just fight you in Sirens call! Its awesome to see them sorta cringe. Theres nothing realy close to that in WoW for me. Albeit I imagine people would recognize me if i went back to my sever on WoW after 13 months away. Lol they just want the hides i collectedimage

While I personaly dont play Neither CoX nor WoW, I preffer WoW towards
CoX becuase it feels much more then MMO then CoX. CoX feels like an
arcade type of game - no items, no loot per se (just powerupps and
stuff, no items to wear), no crafting. People often say WoW is a dumbed
down MMO, while I dont agree with the term dumbed down, WoW is less
complicated (in terms of what you can do at higher levels) game. But in
terms of combat, WoW is very complex, well balanced and fun. CoH is
also fun in combat, but the lack of world space and repeated missions
that look same kinda kills immersion. Still, I enjoyed CoH long enough
to be worthy of the box price.

Since both games have free trial, id suggest trying them first and see
which you like more. Im not sure if they require CC to try, but even if
they do, it wouldnt be hard to borrow a CC card to just get a trial and
    then cancel it, right?

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Actually WoW does require a CC to play but you can cancel online. You don't need to go through a service rep to cancel the account. What I do is get the trial and cancel right away. If I want to keep the account I just re-activate the account. No big whoop.

World of Warcraft is of higher quality then CoX. don't get me wrong, CoX is a fun and good game, but honnestly, with nothing else to do then endless mission grinding, fighting in the exact same buildings over and over again gets old fast. its a fun game for a month or 2~3. but WoW just has alot more to offer then CoX.

With CoX you get a fun combat game. with WoW, you get a full world.

I have to admit. I am SURPRISED at your response Gameloading. I guess I need to do some re-evaluating of your opinions. I had you pegged as a NCSoft fanboi through and through. :)

    No hehe.

I am only "fanboi" of games, never of a company. since a company doesn't say anything about the quality of a title.

True Story:  Cox Cable is running these ridiculous advertisements in my area where they denounce satellite TV.

People complain about WoW being shallow...just wait 'till you see the depth of CoX, it's a puddle in comparison to WoW's ocean!

WoW is better all round. (Unless you'd rather play Super Hero than Fantasy characters of course)

Uhhhh..... The OP isn't talking about Cox Cable.   Cox represents CoV and CoH where the x is a variable.

It really depends on what you want to get out of a game. IMO cov/coh is more pve team oriented with a less than impressive pvp system and a pretty boring endgame. WoW is the most popular mmo on the market with 6million+ players, based around questing/mob grinding 1-59 and instance/pvp grinding at 60. If I had to choose it would be cov/coh because of more dymanic content (newspaper missions, peacekeeping missions, mayhem missions) and a better combat system (almost arcade like characteristics mixed with traditional mmo combat). To be blunt, WoW is a boring grindfest with the same content no matter how many times you play throuh it, but if 6 million players like it, you might also.

I am CoX player myself. And while i love the game and perfere it over WoW

I must advise you to go buy and play WOW.

    Why?

First of WOW is EQ ripoff extraordinare. It is EQ improvement.
Secondly although everyone is bashing wow, it is only because we played it loved it and got bored with it after XY months.

So my advice is like this.

You allready played COX and you can always come back. But WoW is an experience everyone is talking about, it would be a shame to miss it, for better or for worse...

    Catch my drift?

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

You made a good point, and I've decided to go buy WoW. I'm not gonna get the expansion next month, but I played EQ for quite some time w/ only one expansion and I enjoyed myself, so hopefully this will live up to the hype. And I don't think I have to worry much about the endgame. I'm such a casual (a.k.a shitty) player I've never reached an MMO's endgame, so hopefully I won't hit this dreaded endgame grind everyone keeps talking about. So now that I'm officially getting it, how much is teamspeak? I want to communicate with others but have a hard time typing and playing at the same time.

Communication basically revolves around teamspeak for endgame raids but since you don't plan on reaching that content in the near future, it's not needed. However, if you join a guild that has a bunch of people that like to hang out in vent or do lower level instances you would probably get quite a bit of use out of it. Unlike some other MMO's, in WoW you actually make more xp solo grinding than being in a group so some have labeled it as more of an anti social mmo from levels 1-59. I'm assuming you're asking how much of the game involves teamspeak. If you're asking the price of teamspeak, it's free to use unless you want to operate your own server, but if you're a casual player it's not something you would be interested in.
