Yes, there are. Fairyland has a turn based battle system, as well as talesweaver online (TS Online). check the gamelist for the links to the websites.

  • There are a lot of Turn-based games you can play online, but It would never work with a lot of people playing at the same time because people don't want to wait to take a turn. I have played games with just 4 people and it was brutal. Even playing poker can get bad because people use the entire time limit to decide they are folding.

yeh i know what you mean i play poker an i think some peeps do that to piss you of an also i see what you mean be a bit awkward everyone playing turn by turn take for ages lol

    Actually,

I'm looking for a turnbased game, but a play-by-email. I guess it isn't defined as a MMORPG, what I want is a spaceopera, wargame with turns just about 1 time/day so I can plan my move at work when I can't play any realtime games. If there are any good such game, I'm interested.

Holy crap! Someone besides me on this forum is oldschool enough to mention The Realm! image

Yeah I really miss that game, especially the combat system. Basically when you get into a fight its a separate instanced screen, people outside the fight see a cartoony combat cloud, and the fight itself is more like a console RPG than an MMORPG. If another good game ever comes out and implements this, I'll be very happy.

Haha, yeah I played it forever, love that game.  I was Keeblerelf and Bushyboy, among some others.  Keebler was my popular character.  I think I have played that on and off for about 8 years now or so.

I played that game 10 years ago when it was new. I was 10 at the time. Hate to say I made my way through that game perm and enchant scamming people out of their valuables LOL. I can't even remember the names of my characters on The Realm, I know Infliction was at least one of em... Damn I've used this name for a long time. Nowadays I'm lucky if I can get in a game where this name isn't taken though image

PrisonServer is also a turn-based MMO. I think you get a 1-month trial from the website.

Rubies of Eventide also has turn-based combat.

I find it to feel a little slow though.

There's a new turn based MMO that should be entering beta in the middle of November.

I can say for Fairyland that, despite the kiddy theme, it's really a
VERY well-made game with a mature community, and I've been in several
4-person parties and never had any trouble waiting for my turn.
Everyone was always very fast to select their moves.

Fairyland, again, is a very well made turn based MMO.

I really think that a turn based MMO, that is true to the turn base legacy (not like EQ, which is more or less turn based, since nothing stop the timer from starting a new round)...

It would need to allows players to play 5 or 10 turn ahead of others, so they can take a break at once, rather than taking about 20 micro break, they would take a 5 minutes break from time to time.

In order to allow such a gameplay to exist, you have to put distance between every players, so that ANY action you do, take at least 5 rounds to have any repercusion on your fellow players.

So, someone VERY slow would play 3 turns, while another player would play 8 turns, then the fast player take a small break and come back to see that the slow player is in turn 10, allowing him to play up to round 15 while the slow player reach round 12, giving him 2 more turns to play RIGHT NOW, so he is taking a second break at round 17 (while the slow player is at round 12)...that way you have less continuous waiting.

Such a "distance" would be ideal in a wargame-type MMO...(or a MMO where you actually control "raid forces" in a different area than the other players)

Now, if you are lucky and find players who play at about your pace, you might have to take a break only once per many hundreds of turns of play...

And no, I don't know of any game having such a great implementation of GBT.

I dont know how many of you are Dungeons and Dragons fans, but they are coming out with a D&D game that is entirely turn based, although it is somewhat fast.  I would definately not be a thing to check on once a day.  It looks very promising, though.  I know there is that whole Outwar thing going on, and that isnt really a rpg, but it has a one hour timer, and you can make one move every turn.  It is not moving at all, it is a text baed game with good looking UI, basically.  And then to get bigger, you have other people click on a link that gives you one point.  Although it sounds stupid, it can be pretty fun.

There is also another game(cant remember the name)  It is a mafia game.  Kinda like the godfather, but kinda like what i just decribed.  If anyone knows what i am talking about, please post.

    Thanx,

What D&D game ? How do i do not know nothing about it ?!?! Post the name damnit!

And as for previous poster ranting about the games that allow you to make certain numbers of moves every couple of hours.

Well here is the news for ya buddy ;) They are called browser mmos , there are plenty of them.
And they are very very good and imensly popular , with player bases surpasing most of MMOs

Some that come mind are TDZK (EVE online was based on that) ,genesis..many many others

The D&D turn based game is called Dungeons and Dragons : Tactics.  It is a game for PSP, so it might not be your cup of tea, but I think that it looks promising.  I first caught a glimpse of this game when I went to the E3 convention.
