Any MMORPGs that don't take an Area 51 to play?

OK, here are my computer stats:

Pentium 4 - 1.79 GHz

384 MB ram

56k Modem

Can clear out about 10 GB worth of storage.

What can I play with this?image

I'm a n00b at MMORPGs, but I pwn at CS.

Who got the idea to make an anime and a game based on an MMORPG, but not an actual MMORPG?

Alot of people own at CS. Its easy, though I have not played in months.

Anarchy Online seems to be the most popular.  Will that run?  And what about Final Fantasy XI?  If I can't run that on my PC then I'll get the HDD bundle for my PS2.

If Anarchy Online will run on my Pentium 3 700MHz, 512mb  of RAM with a GF4MX440, then im sure it will run on yours :)

My computer is a 1.7 1gb ddr ram 128 mb video card with 800mghz FSB on the board and runs FFXI like crap. Im not sure if it was my connection (DLS?) or just my computer in general but the game ran like a commadore 64

You made no mention of what graphics card you got.

In mmorpg Graphics card is the most important thing. You can have a pentium 3.4GHZ with 1 GB and a TNT2 card but it will run worse then a pentium 4 1.4GZ 512ram with a geforce4tiFar worse in short.

Assuming you have a low card or an old one ,I would recommend

1)EQ with new models turned off. Will run smoothly unless in a bag raid

2)UO- should have zero lag problems

    3)AO- some lag but managable

4)DAoC - lastest expansion might lag  but rest should be ok until you hit big battles.

5)AC1-should have little or no problems.

Well some people just can't afford a good computer.  I have an nVidia card.  I just know it runs Max Payne and Mafia fine.  My modem is the real problem.  Is there anything that runs reasonably on a 56k?  What about a 2d game, graphics are miles beneath gameplay when it comes to online games, well for me at least.

EDIT:  I just checked and it seems I have an nVidia GeForce4 MX something or other.  But we're not here to troubleshoot my crappy computer, we're to to make suggestions.  To me.  Because everything is about me.  [sarcasm]

with the new mmogs coming out you will be in trouble with that 56k...although they may run, it will be very very laggy.  Many of them are now being optimized for broadband and dial up is getting left in the dust

Your computer will do alright with many games out there. Just take a look at the games listed under my user info. I've played 17 mmorpgs so far and I give them a 1-5 star rating. I don't think AO is that great. When we (my older bro and I) first got the game we played it for a while and then quit, but indeed it has come far from its conception. I still have doubts in its gameplay and some issues remain. My bro finished playing a 7-day free trial of it and still said that he wouldn't have had continued through the trial if it wasn't for the ability of being able to buy anything he wanted (since someone gave him over 100,000 credits when he first started out). The best part about the game is the trench coats and the swords... image but...I wouldn't put much serious thought into it. I, myself, am a fan of FPS and I'd be playing Planet Side atm if it were not for a lack of money and having to buy their expansion that came out. I'm not going to pay for a game like EQ-that comes out with an expansion every 2 months or so...

p.s. Killer, I know that AO had major lag issues even when I had cable. One of the reason why I quit it a while back.
