not really, but you can hold your mouse button down and drive in circles a lot.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

This game is actually a lot like Carmaggedon.  In fact that is the first thing I thought of once I got out of the newbie area and started killing things, seeing "killing spree" pop up.

I was hoping it will be like Carmaggedon with Mad Max feel. But it dissapointed me a little.
Not that it can not be fixed in future but for now it didn't provide same experiance as Carmaggedon did.

I remember in Carmaggedon large part of fun was to get distance and enough speed to hit other card with proper force and it just did feel "right". I remember how cool it was when I was able to see damge in thise nasty 65 wheel police car..

In AA you don't see damage on other cars. Also cars behave as if they would be made of plastic flying hundred meters in the air.

The people you were able to splat on windshiled in Carmaggedon are like terminators in AA.
You hit one with your car and not enough he/she doesn't splat you car flies in the air again while this "immortal" human is still standing where it was.

AA still can be fun but it didn't remind me Carmagged in slightest.

    adolf

This is the result of a deliberate attempt to mis-lead thousands of people by creating gameplay videos that never show that the mouse cursor is doing all the work.

Does this game support a force-feedback steering wheel?  I have an Act Labs(anybody remember them?) steering wheel with shifter and foot-pedal set that is sitting in storage waiting for the re-emergence of more tactile gameplay.

Don't remember if it does support stearing wheel.
But with kind of limited control and customization opetions it is hard to play without your mouse in hand.

I tried to play for while only with keyboard as I do in car games but it didn't work too good. Again becouse of limited/bugged targeting, firing and guns manipulations.

I filled bug reports about turrent gun back in April but it was not fixed since then.

That's one of the problems that prevent it from feeling like much of an action game.  You can bind everything to controls so that you don't have to use a mouse, but it's not really made to work that way, and always felt way too cumbersome for me.  Targetting was especially problematic.  Possible, but a pain in the ass.

Often compared to Twisted Metal, but there's good reasons guns only shoot forward in that game.  Well, forward, or back, with some homing assistance.  But none of that target-locking turret lameness.  You really had to focus on driving to hit anything, and could do so with nothing more than basic steering controls, gas, breaks, and a weapon trigger.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Been playing AA for a few months now and I safely say I've never seen nor heard of bugged turret targeting unless your refering to the 'Auto Targetting' feature and if so, yes it's annoying that can be turnt off.

As to the question about AA and it's relationship to Carmaggedon, it's kind of a mix of a yes and no answer:

No you can't splatter infantry on your windscreen by driving into them

Yes you CAN splatter 3-5 infantry in a group in a hail of machine gun fire/Flames/8mm explosions/Radioactive goo

No you can't see the damage your dealing to your oppenents chassis when you ram them

Yes you can see the damage your dealing to EVERYTHING else (buildings, wrecked cars, fences, trees, road signs, traffic lights, street lamps, wild life, infantry, mutated plant life) when you fly over a hill guns blazing landing near a enemy encampment and see the encampment blast apart throwing rubble and dust particles flying in all directions and people scream as their hit by stray bullets.

    No you can't be a elf/dwarf/orc

Yes you can still pretend to be dispite the fact that your a green/yellow/brown mutated human with glowing eyes and oddly shaped matter growing out of your head.

You don't think there's anything amiss? I'm sat here wearing a red and white gingham dress, and army boots, you think that's un-amiss?

Ah Man Carmeggedon Was the BEST Game ever.   I wish they would put out another one.   Better graphics so when ya smash into someone you really see the detail splatter on your windshield.   The funniest thing is watching the little old ladies try and run off in there walkers.   Was that funny or what.  They need to put out Carmeggedon 2 or 3 :)

you can run into them, but you stop, the only thing you can really do is fire your weapon while tring to drive and aim at the same time

In Auto Assault you can run over the enemy but its Nothing like Carmeggedon.  I played Auto Assault for a few months and it was cool but got to be same same.  I uninstalled it.  It is fun for a while though.  Or maybe a long time.  Depends on you.  If they have trial its worth checkin out.

Uhm, there allready has been a Carmageddon 2 and 3. Carmageddon 2 was the best Part of the Series. Carma3 (aka. TDR 2000) had nice Visuals and Sound, but the Gameplay and Damagemodel of Carmageddon 2 is, by far, superior.

As for the original Question, imo Auto Assault is nothing like Carmageddon. It's more like the bastard Child of Interstate 76 and Mad Max 2.
