Imagine two warriors of the same race and same class:
Warrior A: a sword and a shield
Warrior B: an axe and a sword
Each warrior has a different set of skills specific to his weapons combination. Individual skill could combine in a certain way (or execute in a specific order) to create a combo. Each combo has taticals strengths and weakness that target specific scenario(s). Terrians/Morale/Weather conditions/Hatred could further affect the effectiveness of these combos.
The "rock-paper-scissor" is at "combo" level, not at races/classes level. So anyone could create a combo that counter anyone's combo. And the "rock-paper-scissor" relation is hundred-times more complex. It also depends on maximun number of skills an avatar can carry in the battle, this may limit the number of "combos" an avatar is allowed to have....
So an avatar could specialized in specific area(a) (i.e. anti-melee(or anti-certain fighting styles), anti-caster, anti-ranger, duel, AOE attack, sneak attack..etc).
But the complex
"rock-paper-scissor' relation and each avatar could bring mulitple
combos, also ensure nobody is absolutely completely anti/owns - any body.
Imagine this idea also extend to other races and classes...
Now imagine each team (consists of multiple players) has a "theme" (a team that consist of a highly specialized team composition), one team may specialized in spreading disease, the other team may specialized in elemental damage, another team may be melee heavy, other team may specialized at siege warfare, other team may specialized in assassination or other team may specialized in certain "formation"....etc
A warband consists of multiple teams and it is leaded by a champion.
An army consists of multiple warbands and it is leaded by a general.
I guess I have had enough of those dumbed-down classes/combat systems.
The more complex classes/combat systems are, the better.

Isn't this already done in Guild Wars?
I mean they even made fun of Rock Paper Scissors with the Mad King Thorn Halloween event last year.
Quote:
"My army could not be defeated! My fleet was unsurpassed! Most
impressive of all, I was the MASTER of that greatest test of strategic
aptitude: ROCK-PAPER-SCISSORS!"
The game you are looking for came out ages ago. It was called Street Fighter.
