Server Mergers?

AnkorAnkor Member Posts: 258
Will this ever be considred?

Playing on Tarquinas is painful, I cant bring myself to log in to a MMO and have very VERY few people to play with :(

Its so obvious to me, SOE needs to merge servers.

The game is FAR FAR better NOW at this point in time than it was when the debacle of the NGE was launched, but even if SWG (in its 4th version now) is much better.... whats the point if there are so few people to play with?

It only costs about $50 to move your character. What's the problem?

  • AnkorAnkor Member Posts: 258
    1) I dont want to pay $50

    2) Whats the point?  Go to another low pop server?

Switching servers means nothing.  Server mergers was the point.  Going from one low pop to another would make little sense.

Its the total picture of the low pop issue that is the problem.

The game is far better now, the population numbers are not.

Heck, imo, if they brought back all the professions they got rid of and advanced the timeline (due to the plague of jedi) the game would be fantastic!  But without actaul players....its hard.

The last *big* mistake they made involved nullifying people's efforts. Server merges would require the loss of housing, resources and equipment/goods. They would also have to delete the extra characters of those people that happen to play on two or more servers being merged. If they've learned anything throughout SWG's life, they'll never do it (regardless of how good or bad it might be).

Of course, they could just mash everything from each of the servers together without worring about it. That might be more SOEish.

As Vastar mentioned, SWG isn't merger friendly.  I play on Chilastra and no, you don't see the massings of people in one spot but I don't feel alone when I play.  Not seen what it's like on the smaller servers though.

Server mergers are absolutely needed. Even Bria is only an average server. Lack of popualtion is the games #1 problem. If it had high pop's, it could at least be a huge PVP-fest.

Just started today and wondering what would be a good server to join? Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Yeah, I would have to concure, Server consolidation would be a good thing, I am definitly liking the changes , since the new chapter releases with the new GCW and expertise line, things are looking up, but our pops are definitly down. It would be nice again to hit theed cantina and see a bunch of people around instead of just on the weekends. If they would just dwindle the servers in 1/2 IE Combine every 2 servers, life would be more intresting ... weekends on corbantis atm actually can get to the med/heavy end so thats cool, but would like to see that more during the week as well.. the GCW is picking up as well and the more rebel jedi's me and the imp's kill the better !

Of course it has been considered by soe.  Why wouldn't they consider it? Obviously they haven't done so because it has negative consquences both in PR and in implimentation.  Start a new character on a different server.  People act like its so hard to make a new character.  It isn't like you have to delete your loved toon.  If its that big a deal to have your avatar in name, appearance and status I believe they offer character transfer.

I am not a soe supporter or subscriber anymore but come on.  This is so typical of why swg is going down the drain.  I played a lot on a "low" population server.  I created a toon on another more populated server to have more player interaction.  I mean for goodness sakes there is alot of whining going on.  You are playing a 3 year old game.  Alot of people preferred a different version of it.  It is expected to have less and less subscribers.  Go to a more populated server.  If you cannot find one that is a problem.

As for your final point about its 4th version nonsense that is your opinion and clearly it is a minority opinion not shared by many people.  The vetern "refugee" community, most gaming publications and quiet a few major media sources who featured op ed pieces bemoaning the entire nge debacle.  However, you are entitled to have your opinion just don't spread your truthiness here.

well beyond the trollers here whom will surly be deleted shortly, Here is hoping that we get some kind of mergers, would be nice, mind you it's not bad but would be nice to have large numbers. Thou I have to admit, in the last month I have seen 4 of my friends return and actually are sticking around, so who knows.. my server definitly has seen an increase in player base so it's really up to you to just try a server and see if you like it.

Heh, Pre-cu didn't exactly have great reviews either ;)  The pre-cu version also managed to win a coaster of the year award.

Let's not forget the capture of the #11 spot on the Top 20 Gaming Lows of 2004

    I still laugh at this:

"With longtime players deserting and turning servers into giant wastelands of empty vendors, SOE again released a statement at the end of 2004 promising Smuggler, GCW, and combat revamps--few are holding their breath. And Vader chills in a retreat while Jedis run wild in supposedly Imperial-controlled cities. "

and thats 2004. We never learned.

I seriously doubt SOE will ever merge servers. I believe that SOE expects to get their playerbase back for SWG in the future, so see no point in reducing the amount of servers.

Pre-CU was rated significantly higher by players and readers.  The game was rated low mostly due to lack of content.

SOE will take your money as long as you give it to them. In return you'll get to play a game with more lag than Diablo II. You'll see fewer players than Diablo II as well.

You'll also to get to wait around for a publish every 6 weeks or so that will give back a little of what they foolishly took away with the NGE. Some time in early 2007 the "expertise" initiative will be completed if the game isn't cancelled first.

Enjoy it if you can for as long as you can.
