Rumor has it Garriot scraped the original TR and is now revamping it?
How's that going?
Any news on beta yet?
Timeframe for release? 6 months? 1 year? 2 years? Unintentional vaporware?

Not exactly a rumor if the developers have stated it repeatedly over the past year. Had a playable demo at E3 '06 so development seems to be coming along nicely. Not much news on beta except for a few beta entry contests. Official word from E3 about release is "months, not years."
E3 2005 and 2006 and every press article since then is hardly a rumour.
MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan
I think the original development was putting it to close to everything we've seen before. Tabula Rasa is clean slate in Latin and I really think that the NCSoft team are trying to create a new type of gaming experience. From what I've seen so far this game could be really great, you only have to look at the movie on YouTube to make you want to play it there and then.
The move to a more Sci-Fi based model brings in-line the shooter style game-play and also allows for some great front line battles. Although the information is fairly sparse at the moment I hope to see news of Beta before the end of the year and a release in Q1 or Q2 next year. If we don't hear anything of beta before then I fear it will be pushed back until next winter (fall for all you US'ers ).

I know thats a total rumor, but totally shitty if true

I think he may have been referring to the original design change, but if its true AND it happened a 2nd time, then wow, maybe they should give up.
Based on Interviews with Garriot.... that doesnt hold water...
Garriot is reported as saying that the problem with the original design was a "too many cooks" situation.... Destination Games was originally created as a "Dream Team".... but the end result (original TR) was an odd jumbled mess that none of the developers really liked.....
Garriot is on record as saying that early "screen testing" proved that gamers felt the same way the developers did... that TR was "too odd", and very difficult to identify with or form meaningful attachment towards.
So, the Revamp was an attempt to better appeal to the sensibilities of developer and player.... something more identifiable, and more grounded....
It could all be BS..... but the tone of the interviews ive read about it dont come across as corporate spittle.
I guess I don't fit the mould of most gamers, because I was really looking forward to Tabula Rasa when I first heard about it. Then, when I saw the changes they made, I've completely lost interest in it. To me, NOW it looks just like everything else out there. Combat, fighting, skilling, grinding... before, the concept was unique. Now it's just the same old thing.
/end personal opinion
Well from the articles I have seen it was a bit of a jumbled mess. Too many chefs trying to provide direction and not enough cooks doing the work.
Also the game was trying to fit the Asian and U.S markets so the artwork had a sort of Asian look which apparently didnt work out so well.
So anyways we get the game we get - which from the E3 reports seems to be going well. The game appears to be in a heavy internal testing phase and they have just rejigged the character classes to further differentiate them.
