Which are the best free MMORPGs

Hi,

I was just wondering..

What are the best free MMORPGs.

Ive played runescape until level 94, got bored.

Puzzle Pirates, IP banned for mistaken identity.

And, FlyFF got boring after while too.

Could you please tell me which are the best games?

Thanks.

In my personal opinion, Anarchy Online

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

    Ok Thanks,

I'll start the Anarchy Trial and download it tonight whilst im asleep.

It does look a very worthwhile game.

    But, what are it's faults?

And what are the good parts of the game?

I just finished answering that question, so Im going to shamelessy copy it from another thread image

One thing you should know though, the download can be tricky. It is designed to work with Bittorrent, which will also be there on the site.

    Weak points:

Dated graphics, the models and animation are five years old and thus are not as flashy as many MMORPGs out there. I would however love to see AO design come together with a modern engine.

High learning curve, this is one of those you're much better off reading all the tutorials they give you, looking up guides on the forums, and asking lots of questions

Slow gameplay, it takes a heck of a long time to get to max level. This does mean it is nearly impossible to run out of content, but you still need patience to get up there.

PvP, there is little player versus player combat, you have to deliberately seek it out in most cases. Depending on your interests, this may or may not be a bad thing

    Strong Points:

Community, a more mature and helpful group of players is hard to find. Griefing, flaming, 1337 speech, etc. are all very rarely seen.

Character Customization, nearly anything goes, with a huge variety of skills to invest in, 48 class/profession combinations, and hundreds of thousands of unique items, you pretty much never see two characters that either look or are the same. Wierd class combinations do work, sometimes unbelievably well.

Class balance, none of the professions are (at this time) significantly over or underbalanced.

Customer Service, AO is the home of the ARK (Advisors of Rubika) program, which is arguably the #1 ingame Customer Service team in any MMORPG anywhere. ARK recruits volunteer players, who are given tools and training to assist the paid GMs in solving player problems. The end result is much shorter waiting times, more indepth and accurate solutions, and someone personally working on the problem instead of a brief prescripted answer. They also attempt to greet in person every single new player to the game, partly to help them with any issues they have. So dont be surprised if a fellow with a green name pops up, if one does, ask them questions, they really know their stuff.

Bots/macros, Funcom has done an excellent job keeping third party programs such as bots to an absolute minimum.

Gameplay, there is always something to do, something that will cater to your specific play style. It is literally impossible to run out of quests, aside from the regular jobs you can get from NPCs, you can at any time get a mission or missions that are automatically generated to fit the difficulty and other settings you want

Storyline, Anarchy Online's backstory is constantly moving forward, sometimes changing the very map. For example, due to recent events in the Neutral city of Borealis, Omnitek has moved in and siezed control. What was a city safe for all sides of the conflict to mingle, is now patrolled by heavily armed guards that will shoot any of the Clan they see. This is aided by the ARKs, who have an entire department devoted to writing and running interactive events for the players.

That all depends on where you look. The Atlantean server for example has a much higher population than Rimor

As far as the emptiness of AO... Also your average wide-open area isn't going to have a lot of people. Its too far to run and if you're in a Yalmaha you're going to a mission or outdoor boss. Although I'm mostly hardcore Omni-Tek (NO RUNNING!) the Clam's city of Athens is much more urban-population than Rome. Between the stores and the hill and the lack of weird pedestals for every building, it has a better bustling city atmosphere.
