Something like EVE but offline?

HotcellHotcell Member UncommonPosts: 279

Is there any game like that?

I like the idea of EVE, but the long travel time & the miner bots keep me from playing.

But I'm looking for a game that has a lot of customization and basically exploring etc.. not a strategy game like starcraft.

There is a game called X3, that is similar to what you may be looking for.

That's exactly what you're looking for, the similarities between Freelancer and EVE are shocking.

X3 Reunion (as mentioned) and Freelancer are great.  Heck hard to beat having Bruce Campbell voice-overs.

Also there are some older games like Freespace that still stand up pretty good.

X3:threat indeed, OP you should try this out. be sure to visit the official site though and download all the latest patches as the game had a unstable start, lots of Frame rate problems.

Its a top game though, graphically superb and the music is great. Or you could go Freelancer, and enjoy a more speedy progression through the universe.

As stated, Bruce Campbell aswell, legend 101. Only missing David Hayter for sheer cool. +)

You can now get X2 and X3 via Steam (Steampowered.com).  It's a very easy way to get the first couple of X games along with all of their patches.

Darkstar One is a pretty cool offline game.  It's sort of halfway between Freelancer and X3 gameplay-wise.  You only get one ship, but can upgrade it in 3 different ways depending on which path you want to go down (to be more agile, stronger in combat, or hold more cargo).  It's not as freely explorable as Freelancer, and not as strong resource-collecting wise like X3 ... it's a good mix in between imo.  Its like a modern-day Wing Commander: Privateer :)

    X2 The Treat
    X3 Reunion
    Freespace 2 (Combat only)
    Starlancer (Combat only)
    Independence War
    Independence War 2
    Freelancer

    Don't know about I-war 1, but I-war 2 is somewhat story driven.

I am glad that I am not the only one to think that the similarites between EVE and FREELANCER are a little similar.

X3 is the best I have seen, it is really fun to play.
