Since the NGE my husband and I won't even look at Sony products. There are plenty of alternatives when buying electronics so it goes beyond SOE and moves into anything Sony in our house.
As far as LA.. well we don't buy as much as we used to but we have no other alternative for the occasional Star Wars item we want to purchase.
I don't like the way these companies treat their consumers so there is no reason I should support them by paying for their products.
I know EXACTLY what you mean. When I heard of Vanguard I was like "ohhhhh". Then I heard SOE was associated(and I dont care if they are just the publisher and not the developer) and I was like "well, not playing THAT one!". Same thing when I heard DC Comics sold the rights to make a DC mmo to SOE. I was like...MAN why did they have to put it in THEIR hands! When I canceled SWG I swore to NEVER play another SOE game again.
Now I'm not to the point of not buying any Sony products. They make very good electronics which have high quality and last a long time. And I would definately play games like God of War II. But as far as SOE games go, I'm running the other way when I see their name attached to it!
Originally posted by acmtalk Well, Since the dead of SWG, I have been looking for another mmorpg, No succes, I guees that fantassy+levels aren't for me. Anyways, Does anyone else feel the need to not play anythng related to SOE because of what they did to swg?
I know it's kind imature to think that way, But for some reason I feel like boycotting everything that SOE does, if not even Sony products for that matter. I wonder if someone starts some sorte of blog/web site, with that purpose, and lots of people join, would Sony force SOE to correct their mistakes hehe.
I will not purchase any further SOE products. I do not believe that this is "immature". It is based on 2 years of experience dealing with them... and dealing with their lies, their propaganda, their repeated promise-breaking. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was the obvious swindle/scam of the ToOW expansion and NGE... that they had the audacity to get people to pre-order it on the basis of things like new CH pets, when they knew that within days of its release, they were going to remove CH from the game. I wasn't even a CH at the time but the blatant falsity of this act, and then their attempts to further lie and cover it up, told me that this was not a company I was willing to give any money.
Such a decision does not constitute a "boycot" -- it is merely a choice one makes in the face of limited funds. I am not struggling to pay for MMOs by any means, but funds for entertainment are not infinite for me or most people, and so I choose where to spend them, and on what. When a company gives me the shaft, I automatically look for other companies to spend money on. I think it would be far more foolish to keep giving money to a company I believed took me for a ride, than to stop paying them.
Originally posted by jrscott if you get righteous pleasure from causing them pain, and your motives are punitive and not corrective, boycott away.
I don't even get pleasure from it, or have any interest in "punishing" them. It's not a matter of THEM... it's a matter of ME -- that is, where do I want to spend my hard-earned money. If a company makes a solid product, and treats me well as a customer, they get me back, because I feel intelligent for giving them more money when they do fine work. If a company makes a shoddy product or treats me shabbily, they get no more of my money, not because I want to punish them, but because it would be a foolish way to spend my hard-earned money.
In my life I've owned 2 GM cars and a Mazda. My mother owned 2 GM cars, a Ford, and some others. Of all those cars, the GM cars were by far the worst in terms of needing repairs, breakdowns, and just plain "car trouble." Meanwhile, my current Mazda is 10 years old and has never given me a day of trouble. So what kind of car do you think I will buy when I trade this one in? That's right -- Mazda. Not to punish GM... but because if I'm going to spend money on a car, I'd like to spend it on a car made by a company I trust.
You have to think of it this way: if you don't spend your money on good products made by good companies, the only things left (as those good companies go out of business) is going to be garbage products made by bad companies.

I feel the same way it's not about getting pleasure from it.. It's about principal. If a company uses child labor or treats animals inhumanely and I learn about it will I give them money? No I won't, I refuse to support those types of things so I will not be one of the people that contribute to them making a profit off of it.
SOE shafted their customers and Sony invaded people with the rootkit. Why would I continue to give money to a company that treats their consumers as poorly as they have? I will not pay the bills for them to keep shafting the consumer.
I will find another company with principals I can support instead. It's that simple.
I am a SWG-REFUGEE-LURKER-DAY-ONE-VETERAN. (Fletcher - Chilastra)
I have to fess up.. I am going to try Vanguard.
I am so damn hungry for a decent MMORPG.
After Novemeber 2005, I did WOW in 4 months and was done. Tried Auto Assualt and EVE.. but sorry I need a real avatar. I have been NGE clean since DEC 2005 except for a lapse in June.
I know SOE is involved in the distribution and I wish they where not, but I.... just cant.... stand it... I want to play an MMORPG and Vanguard seems like the only game in town.
I buy products with a reputation for quality. I buy subscription products (like MMO's with monthly fees) from organizations with a reputation for quality service.
So ... SOE is off my radar, since their code quality is crap and their customer service makes you wish somebody friendly and helpful like the Sopranos were running their game. (at least they'd get the job done)
SOE has managed to tarnish the entire Sony brand name for me ... I spent four grand on electronics last year and I never once looked at a Sony product. 'Nuf said.
Better than a chump anyday... all I own is sony electronics, my dog recently shorted out my sony Surround system and I replaced it with a Yamamaha.
Hell, weird thing is SOE killed my drive to game completely not sure why... but I get no enjoyment anymore. I had a Xbox, PS2, and cube. Now my 5 year old little girl is set up. I loved to game too.... still not sure what happened but Im sure SOE is behind it.
Ill go a step farther and say screw their movies too.
I dont consider it revenge, Id stop hanging out with someone if they kicked me in ballz over and over.
Think of the people who cant stop playing NGE I bet they are always short lunchtime.
Not getting any SOE games, not even the ones they are only suppose to provide servers for (Vanguard). When NGE hit, I was looking forward to Vanguard because I thought it would be the game to replace SWG (the one closest to the way SWG played...sandbox and all). When I found out SOE was connected with it, I was really disappointed. I know that SOE isn't suppose to have anything to do with the game design, and I've even thought about watching what happens and then deciding but I just don't trust SOE after what they pulled with SWG. It's not really about "boycotting" them to make them pay for what they did as much as it's about not trusting them.
I love my Sony 6.1 digital surround sound and 5 disc dvd/mp3/cd-r player
as well as currently enjoying EQ2 and REALLY looking forward to Vanguard:SoH
NGE blows, yes it does, and would give anything for my Pre NGE game to return, but boycott sony? no. i think they make really good products, for the most part.
I have nothing against buying Sony's electronics products. Unlike their online game products, every Sony electronics product I have purchased has been of decent to superior quality, and usually the latter. My VCR, now going on 7 years old, is a Sony, and works great. At my last job when we had to buy new monitors for our video analysis, we bought Sony Trinitrons. Their electronics products are solid. When a company has repeatedly sold me solid products, I will keep buying.
SOE, on the other hand, repeatedly screwed me over as an SWG customer. The history I have with them is exactly the opposite of the history I have with their electronics division. Hence, my reaction to SOE is exactly the opposite -- I have no further interest in purchasing anything they touch.
You know, there is an old saying:
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
They fooled me more than once... and I'm not going to give them any further opportunities.
I am on a lifelong boycott of all Sony products as well, you should not feel bad/wrong for supporting your ideals.... Here are some reasons Sony has lost me as a customer for life EXCLUDING the issues stated regarding SOE:
1. 1993 - Paid 500$ for a 20" sony TV - 1995 said TV in the SOny repair center because it died, repair cost 200$ Last year sold my crappy memorex 13" TV/VCR combo for food money, it was almost as old as the sony and performed better at a 150$ price tag.
2. 2000 - My CD Player finally died (not too much of a consequence due to the fact that I had over 1500 rekkids ((black vinyl disks with a groove that is read by a needle, for you new schoolers)) went out and spent 200$ on a new Sony 5 Disc changer.......... it died less than 2 years later.
3. My Father bought both a Sony HI-FI VCR and a Reciever, each lived for less than 3 years.
4. Sony Rootkit - Treating EVERY ONE of your customers as a thief......... Need I say more?
In this time, I have owned a 25 year old Pioneer direct drive turntable that was used for at least 2-3 hours DAILY, eventually had to be retired because the drive motor finally went kaput. A portable mp3/cd player made by Iriver that outlasted not only MY CD player but both of my fathers components. He did not make the mistake of replacing the components with Sony products again.
I can say that I have owned products by other manufacturers tht have worn out in the same amount of time (my JVC DVD player for one), and I will NOT give those manufacturers my money again either........
There are many other companies that I will not *knowingly* give my money to for their practices or their ethics... ex: Nike, even though I live near their corp headquarters I will not accept a job working for them (even though they are one of the largest employers in the area I live in) because a majority of their products are built/made with what essentially boils down to SLAVE LABOR (hows it feel to pay 150+$ for a pair of shoes that the person making is barely making enough off of to afford their next meal, let alone being able to afford in 5 years of saving...... kind of like working in a restaurant that you will never be able to afford to eat at), even if/when I need a job (cursed with the 12month on/6 off contract world, at another *large* company in the same area)......
I have turned down jobs at similar companies in the past because I cannot get past their labor practices or ethics..... So why is it wrong to financially boycott a company for the same practices?

Boycotting all Sony products.
Even bigger personal decisions like 'Which LCD hdtv' went against them by simple name association.
Little victories

Careful. Don't under-estimate 'em.
Lets just say that the only Sony product I got right now, is my Sony Ericsson K700i cellphone, wich I incidently paid 0,21$ for.
Only reason I got a Sony...They are a dime a dozen.
If only Nokia with its superior quality and gadgets could be sold as cheap..then I would never use a Sony again.
