I think this game will be a good MMO period as long as they dont take the MxO route. And how hard is it to apply for the beta ? i mean how do they select people ? has any one played the beta and can give clear insight on the battleing issues?

It's against the NDA if people say they're in the closed beta right now.
As for the battleing insight, I've heard that it's just the basic click and kill (like a typicall mmorpg games: WoW). However, it's alot slower, LOTRO is NOT a fast pace game, it takes time and effort to kill a tough monster. It's hard to kill a monster without using any skills, unless your fighting the weaker ones. I believe there are a few videos on youtube.com. You might want to check that out.
They keep pushing the relese date back... But the game does look sweet cant wait to try it. I recieved my VIP Code last month for it.
Currently Playing: Earth Eternal (Closed BETA w00t!), Eternal Lands, Magic World Online, ACE Online, Dark Orbit, Dead Frontier, Wizard 101, SpellCasters, America's Army, Dungeon Runners, Runes of Magic, DotA ----***I ONLY PLAY F2P MMORPG'S!***---- (A lot of these games I jump around too, I'm most dedicated right now to Earth Eternal and Eternal Lands...)
It would be nice to see an mmorpg with the depth of Tolkien's work. I'm certainly going to try retail, I'll hazard a guess a lot of "older" players ( like me ) will at least give it a shot. Whether or not the game can retain us is a matter of content and community, just like every other multi player game.
Oddly, both my wife and my teenage daughter will try the game, both on the strength of the movies rather than the books. I'll guess both will be banned for swearing pretty quickly though.
LOL that's funny about the wife and daughter's future bans for swearing!!
I wasn't planning on playing this game but now my interest is peaked from what I've read here. Now I have 2 games in 2007 to plan on and gosh- I hope they come out in the 1st quarter and 4th quarter so I don't have to make a choice. I'm glad I found this site- the screenies from LOTR are beautiful:)

I noticed you're from Glasgow, just like my husband. Of course they'll be banned for swearing!
I hope this game turns out well, but I'm really disappointed that they are limited in what they can put in the game. They are limited to JUST the Lord of the Rings, and can not touch on places from other works like The Hobbit or The Similarion.
I just think an MMO with a free-flowing world based off the world tolkien built would be amazing. I hope someday we will get this treat.
On my opinion, the game will be like any other MMORPG.
Turbine Entertainment hasn't done any "good" MMORPG after AC1. Of cause that same could be sayed most of MMORPG developers. I'm sure name "Lord of the Rings" will attract a lot of players first. The hole idea in Turbine Entertainment marketing is get people with this marketing BS and then offer them nice looking generic MMORPG.
It may be little better than they last try with DDO, but notting orginal.
Isn't the idea of being morphed into the Monster and fighting the Humans a new concept? That sounds utterly cool to me and I never have done PvP or Pking but the idea of ME becoming the monster- and having all the people against me- just thrills me!! I hope they have a TON of those situations because there will be HUGE waiting lines for the chance to "become" the monster and fight.
Well i guess this game is comming mid 2007 or end 2007. Already looking very good. What could neck the game is the fighting i dont know it looks a bit static. Most peole wont agree with that i guess. But in trailers I miss something not sure what.
I'am sure they ll clear it out and this game will be great. I'am a bit worried about those strange not-lotr looking monsters. Not saying it should be all orcs and goblins but i dont want to see crappy monsters like in guild wars.
If it gets good reviews i ll surely buy it. Any news about those gamecards? i still hope they are going to offer them.

No even in EQ1 you can do monster missions and become a big dragon and have to defeat a whole raid trying to kill you.Which btw is so freaking fun because the npc players yell some really funny stuff like. Keep it off the healers! or OMG! BBQ! FTW! or help I NEED MORE HEALS!!or you can become a gryphon and hunt down n00bish npc is some of the bigging areas of the game and they yell stuff like omg gryphon at orc1 or DING! WOOT! or wheres the vendors? Overall Depths of Darkhollow was a really fun EQ1 expansion.
