What offline games do you play/recommend?

HotcellHotcell Member UncommonPosts: 279

Just wondering what fellow mmorpgsers recommend.

Currently, there is no MMORPG that is worth playing (in my opinion). So I'm looking for an offline game to play to past time. It can be any game.

It can be what you are playing right now or what you recommend.

IMO, you should try Neverwinter Nights 2 when it comes out later this month. You have to choice to play alone or go online. It comes with a toolset that allows you to make your own worlds with alot of freedom to do so. The online option gives you the chance to play other people's worlds. When you join a game, you are able to group up and do whatever the objective is, or some people just make a place thats PvP only.

I think it will turn out really well done.image

Half Life 2, Oblivion, Titan Quest

All good titles Ive enjoyed, each one with a very different playstyle

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Oh actually I never liked Diablo 2 kind of game for some reason.

But I love Oblivion & am waiting for NW 2. I hope it's as good as hyped.

But in the mean time I need some games. Any more suggestions?

Yep, the single player game that will close DDO down.  Dungeons and Dragons done the way DDO should have been.   Only 14 more days, can't wait.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

If your computer isn't up to par when it comes to running Oblivion, you might wanna look into Morrowind and its expansions. The mod community is even to this day still putting out content, and the years of mods already made really enhance it beyond its original form.

Heroes of Might and Magic III complete.

Heroes of Might and Magic V.

    Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries.

    Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries.

Anything from any of the following series:

    Command & Conquer

    StarCraft

    WarCraft

Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise.

I play a few different ones.  Sacred is pretty cool and a lot of fun.  Oblivion is another pretty good one.  I am patiently waiting for Dark Messiah.  It is a FPS but it is awesome, F.E.A.R.  Another one I keep going back to and playing just cause it's fun and hillarious is Evil Genious.

NWN is very good, get the community expansion pack (CEP) and I highly reccomend the Shadowlords and Dreamcatcher mods. I have the full game with Shadows of Undertine and Hordes of the Underdark and there's a good number of converted PnP mods.

I know most people nowadays probably don't bother with old games but if you can get your hands on a good 386 go dig up some of the older Microprose games, the X-Com series, Master of Magic, Master of Orion, etc all great old DOS games and great to play over and over (I still keep my old IBM PSII (and no that's not Play Station) 386 33MHz though I need to get a new power supply for the old girl). I have a number of old DOS games that I just refuse to let my wife "clean out" of my office.

NWN1-2 - offline or online, the online servers can be very nice. Id wait for nwn2 but it could take a few months for there to be good persistant worlds.

Oblivion - Find some good mods and you got the best offline game of 06.

Half Life - CS:S DOD and the sigle player is keen.

Baulders gate series - old but great if you havent played it.

    Starcraft/WC3 - offline / online

Company of Heroes is one of the best games Ive played in ages.

Hitman Blood Money was just brilliant and waaaaay too short.

Im still playing BF2 after almost a year.... thats gotta say something....not sure what though image

btw I really enjoyed Evil Genius too..... they should do a V2 because it was a really fun game but could do with some design tweaks.

In no particular order, I enjoyed the following:

    • Oblivion (RPG)
    • NWN1 for the community content/toolset (NWN2 releases this month, wait for that) (RPG)
    • Vampire Bloodlines (RPG)
    • Spellforce 2 (RTS/RPG)
    • Battlefield 2 (Shooter)
    • Star Wars Lego (both of them) (arcade)

Dawn of War: Dark Crusade has one hell of a Single Player Campaign that takes ~20 hours to complete for one race.

... and there are seven races image

I'd highly recommend it until NWN2 comes alond with Need for Speed Carbon and C&C Tiberian Wars.

Oh come on! You can't say you didn't enjoy the hell out of the Dark Brotherhood Questline. The only problem with Oblivion is that the main storyline was a bit too short. Other than that, it had a far better background and storyline than any other rpg on the market.

haha, I was going to mention X-Com and decided against it.  I have been playing that game over and over for about 10 years or so now.  I put dos on my Pocket P.C. so I can play x-com anywhere lol.

I have to agree the Dark Brotherhood questline was awesome, probably my favorite part of the game.  Especially since I always play the thief/assassin.  Lots of other fun questlines also.

Well if you're oldschool like me get a trial of gametap and go back and play all the old adventure games from the 90's image. Played through King's Quest 5 the other day and just finished up Zork: Grand Inquisitor. Classics I tell ya image

Of new games i would recommend Prey - very fun shooter somewhat in spirits of Duke Nukem

Also in shooters - Far Cry ... one of the best to come for PC in long time
