Originally posted by Syloc Oh come on! You can't say you didn't enjoy the hell out of the Dark Brotherhood Questline. The only problem with Oblivion is that the main storyline was a bit too short. Other than that, it had a far better background and storyline than any other rpg on the market.
I still had more fun playing Daggerfall. It seemed to be a much bigger world to roam around in. I have hoped for a while that they would re--release it for XP, maybe with an upgrade for the graphics, but I doubt they will.
I also want another Fallout because the story in those games was a lot of fun. There was a lot to do, and it seemed the difficulty was about right for me.
Originally posted by scaramoosh Don't play Oblivion it sucks, for one thing the main storyline only lasts about 6-8 hours :S
It amazes me how you flame this game when it has hours of seemless content on the side, if you've played any other Scrolls games you would know that rushing through the main story is not how its meant to be played.
Originally posted by ljfseven haha, I was going to mention X-Com and decided against it. I have been playing that game over and over for about 10 years or so now. I put dos on my Pocket P.C. so I can play x-com anywhere lol.
QFT!
I keep going back to NWN for solo RPG play; Fallout series/Balder's Gate series for party RPG; and Steel Panthers World at War for tactical wargaming goodness. The original X-Com series is still great for a squad tactical game - the new one sucked hard and crashed often. A very much overlooked DOS base/army building strategy game [RTS or Turn-based options even!] that [IMO] is better balanced than than the C&C series is MAX from Interplay. [MAX2 unfortunately did away with much that was fun/challenging in the original; I do not recommend it]
Some great games that I just can't get away from no matter how hard I try:
- Vampire TM: Bloodlines. Can't buy anymore but you can purchase for download at Direct 2 Drive.
- HomeWorld 2. It's kind of old now but a great story based space RTS, so much fun and hard to beat.
- FEAR. Very cool FPS, even for someone like that doesn't really like FPS's that much.
- Sims 2. Meh, just fun!
- Fable The Lost Chapters. The "Directors Cut" of the Xbox version, only available for PC and it's an amazing game. Just me but I'd play this over Oblivion any day.
- KoTOR 1 and 2: Both up for grabs on PC and both fun games in their own right. Especially if your a SW fan.
- Battle for Middle Earth 2: Fun RTS, more arcade like then games like Rome: TW which is good if your not that into it that much.
Those are just a few of course but hopefully that helps.

hmmm... that tinyfied new version of the Playstation 2 actually wont be a bad thing to have, any clue if it will become super cheap when christmas hysteria starts like it happened some years ago with the first Playstation?
Originally posted by Yablo If your computer isn't up to par when it comes to running Oblivion, you might wanna look into Morrowind and its expansions. The mod community is even to this day still putting out content, and the years of mods already made really enhance it beyond its original form.
Morrowind is amazing. IMO, it was better than Oblivion by far. Give Morrowind a try!
For me, if it's offline then it's 99.5% of the time console. So I'll say Chrono Cross for the PlayStation One, as that's my favorite RPG of all-time. What I'm currently playing is Sonic Heroes for the Gamecube, which is ok. I think it'd make a good rental but with how short the game is, even with four sets of characters to play through story mode, I couldn't really recommend a purchase.
NWN, NWN2 coming out soon, TES4 Oblivion, Fable: The Lost Chapters, Dark Messiah coming out this month, FFXII. Some I've played and think are worth playing when they come out.

I was bored, so on a whim, I picked up Morrowind and all its expansions (My first elder Scrolls game) for $20.
Damn was I impressed.
Two months later, I'm finally done with the game. As in, I'm taking a break from it, going to play other stuff. Then I'm probably going to dive back in with the expansions. Yes, the expansions. I've barely touched Tribunal, and Bloodmoon is still a complete mystery. I still haven't tried some of the major things in the original game too. I have yet to do the Mages guild, or become a Vampire, and I'm sure there is still a load of content I'm missing. Not to mention the fact that I haven't tried a single mod yet.
Bottom line, buy Morrowind. Best $20 spent on a game, ever.

It seems like tons of people here like RPG or Strategy games. Well no surprise there since those 2 genre are my favourite as well.
But right now I'm playing Football World Manager 2007 and it's amazing. If you have interest in soccer, go for it. I thought I would get bored but after 6 hours of non-stop playing, I'm proven wrong
I'd have to say Battlefield 2 and Pro Evolution Soccer 5. If you like soccer games and think FIFA is too arcade give the Pro Evolution Soccer series a go (also known as Winning Eleven in certain countries).
I took the advice and played Neverwinter Nights 2. I must say that game is very, very well done. Not perfect, but good enough.
However, that game has low replayriblity (sp?). After spending 60 hours in the campaign mode, trying to accomplish everything in one run, I've run out of reasons to replay the game again. Sure I can try a different character.. but the content is boring now.

Important Information regarding Posting and You
Hard to believe we have a post like this on the MMORPG forums and no one mentioned the Gothic series.
Gothic 1 and 2 are two of the best RPG's ever, and Gothic 3, out in Europe, and coming to the states in November, will be amazing, I'm sure.
heh why dont you beat the elder scrolls series.
try san andreas, half life 2, halo, prey, doom 3, rise of nations: rise of legends, F.E.A.R.

Play Myth and Myth 2 from Bungie. I love the story in those two games.
Former UO player searching for something even remotely close to what UO was...
