Sony Online Entertainment's Star Wars Galaxies has released a new 14 day free trial of their game. "Starting now", you can download the ull version of the game along with its first expansion, Jump to Lightspeed.

 

Invite your friends and fellow adventurers to experience the excitement of Star Wars Galaxies!

Starting now, you can download the full versions of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided™, and its first expansion, Jump to Lightspeed™, then jump in and play completely free for up to 14 days!

Adventure across 12 planets, 10 space sectors, and dozens of adventure zones - there is a whole galaxy of fun to be had in this massive multiplayer online Star Wars game.

  • Create a custom version of your style of Bounty Hunters, Jedi, Officer or Smugglers using the new Expertise system.
  • Check out new player-versus-player combat at the Ruins of Restuss.

    I guess that's the last chance for SoE to rebuild their customer base before they kill the sick horse.

    There has been a free trial available for quite some time now, this is just a last ditch attempt to lure a player base back into the game. 

    A few months back I downloaded the free trial and logged into my old account.  I was sitting right where I last logged off but this time Coronet was empty.  I jumped to a few planets/major cities and they were empty too. 

    Then I tried to pull out some of my pets, since the new system scrapped Creature Handler I couldn't do anything with them.

    I ran around for a bit exploring some of my old favorite spots and then logged out.  I only ran into one other person the entire time I was online and he was new to the game and a very low level with only questions for me that I could unfortunately not answer since the new system confused the crap out of me.

    Huh? this doesn't make sense. The previous free trial didn't let you log in as your old character or visit any of the main worlds... or at least I thought not...? It only let me run around on an empty space station and admire the random crashes and missing art assets :p

    What the hell, I got nothin better to do I'll download this one too for shits and giggles.

    the game is dead...don't bother...

    I tried making a regular trial account and it wouldn't let me leave the station, it wanted me to purchase the game before it would let me leave the station.  Was this for existing accounts or new accounts?

    Ok, I don't get why this is news?  I have tried to make two seperate new accounts and tried to log into my cancelled exsiting one and the two new accounts will not let me off the starter space station and won't reopen my exsiting account.  I mean is this new cause they went from 10 to 14 days?  Thats not very helpful if they still won't let you leave the newbie space station?  I wanted to see how things had changed but SWG still won't let me, this seems to be another exercise in frustration for me image

    it's flogging dead horses already.
    the sick one died one year ago introducing the 6 classes society.

    opening a server running the "old" classes would do some reanimation as it was the most immersive game i ever played.

    Seems the trial is broke.. Myself and a few others have tried to get in and it just freezes on the download screen... I have DSL and it doesnt download correctly...

    Having access to a billion $ IP - Billions of dollars..
    Having access to a massive fan base of said IP - Even more Billons...
    Singly handedly alienating them due to stupidity - Priceless.

    Doesnt matter what they do.  If if the reverted back or put in pre-cu servers, I wouldnt return.  Most of the people I played with left for good and moved on to other games.  The community would still be in shambles. I for one have moved on and will continue to try some of the new MMORPGS.  Like any MMORPG, SWG had its time but its passed on.   Anytime you try to go back, the game usually doesnt feel the same.  I learned that in Ultima Online.  I left that short after they added in Trammel.  Took a year off, tried to go back but it wasnt the same game anymore. 

    Just let it go, SWG had its time.  There is no going back to the good ole days.  My advice, just play a new game from the start.  You will get much more enjoyment than trying to recreate what SWG was from day 1.  It will never be the same (even with PRE-CU servers).

       The "new" or "enhanced" or whatever you want to call it free trial is a lie. If you read the terms and conditions on the download page it plainly says "...to move from the trial to the live game you will need to enter a valid credit card, if available; additional recurring subscription fees are then required to play."

     

    That means you still can't get off the space station, and yeah, i tried. So what the heck is new about this trial except for the extra 4 days?

    Btw, if any of you guys on the staff here read this, ya might wanna take down this news article.
