DUBAI (Reuters) - A letter purporting to come from Osama bin Laden's militant Islamist al Qaeda network said a big attack on the United States was in the final stages of preparation, a London-based Arabic newspaper said on Thursday.
"We bring the good news to Muslims of the world that the expected 'Winds of Black Death' strike against America is now in its final stage...90 percent (ready) and God willing near," the letter said.
The letter, signed by the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades which said it is part of al Qaeda, was sent to the London-based al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper. A copy of the letter was faxed to Reuters in Dubai.
It was not possible to independently authenticate the letter.
The United States blames al Qaeda for September 2001 attacks on New York on Washington that killed some 3,000 people. The Spanish government has said Basque separatists are the main suspect in the bombings of four trains early on Thursday that killed 192 people.
But the country's interior minister held open the possibility of a militant Islamist link on Thursday evening when he told a newspaper conference that a suspect van had been found containing detonators and an Arabic-language tape. He said, however, militant Basque separatists remained chief suspects.
The al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper received similar letters from the same brigade claiming responsibility on behalf of al Qaeda for a November bombing of two synagogues in Turkey and the August bombing of the U.N. headquarters in Baghdad.
Spain backed the United States in its invasion of Iraq, drawing the opprobrium of militant Islamist group

This is some really scary stuff. All this chatter and these threats are making Homeland nuts.

It's actually a brilliant marketing gimmick. "Our sources tell us that Osama is gonna bomb some shit in America! Piss your pants and stay tune to us for more developements." Fear sells as much as sex. Well, almost as much. This whole thing will turn out to be false and the towel-heads will get a good laugh.

Of course my house will probably be the first to get a hijacked plane on my doorstep for being skeptical.

they're using muslims, islam, as a scapegoat for their actions

the religion teaches NOT to hurt innocent people, and it mentioned in the Quran "Those that hurt innocent people shall burn in the depths of hell"

they are going completly against the religion...

Yeah murt it is f'd up all religon is, and the terrorists think they are islamic when they trully are not it's their own form I say. But a huge factor going against Islam is that they call for Jihad...and only leaders of teh faith can do that. Last time there was a true Jihad was back during the crusades where they kicked some christian ass.

yea but see Islam defines Jihad as a struggle...

the proper interpretation is a struggle from...western culture (as an example) not to go out and get drunk, not to go and have sex before marriage etc...that's one of the true Jihaad's

as for the killing people one..that's only if you are in danger

the muslims were in danger during the crusade.s..therfore a real jihaad occured

jihaads are not ment as an excuse to kill innocent people..and they never will be

We classify Osama as a terrorist, right? Terrorists must have some purpose for striking 'fear' into the hearts of their 'enemies' so who are their enemies and why? There must be a point to their terrorism but to this date I haven't heard an explanation from the media. I may be living in a hole in the ground then, but would someone clarify? As for their threat-everyone gotta die some day, even them so who cares.
