It's hard for me to say exactly since I haven't played in a few months and I have no intention of dedicating any hard drive space for this empty shell of a game, but here ya go:

-How is pvp? Is it open pvp or what?
The PvP is the highest point of the game, which is all relative.  It is nothing like what PvP was like pre-CU and thus is not really that much fun.  It's rather repetitive from what I have seen of it.

    -Are there "raid monsters"
or something simular? Are there rare or unique items that you can ONLY
get from like drops and loots, quests ect.?
Since they broke crafting, yes, but it appears that alot of the 'RAID' bosses are soloable, which is rather daft.

-How is the population? Is it big?
Well, its big under SOE standards, but under normal standards, no not even close.  SOE wont reveal the actual numbers however.

    -Quests repeditive?
    Yes, very much so

    -World expansive?

-How long does it take to get to the lvl max?

    -FUN?
    Uh... no

    -Is
the movement "free". Kind of like in WoW, how you can randomly move in
almost all directions and jump and stuff? Or is it like Lineage 2's
    movement...?
From what I remember, the movement was still rather linear, but since they are trying to WoW-inate SWG, its possible that this has changed.  If it hasn't, thats another flaw in the NGE since its rather hard to simulate WoW type gameplay with limited movement

    -Worth the 15 bucks?
Hardly... I could play for free and I don't

    -Is the game dieing?
Slowly, but yes, unless SOE rollsback or creates classic servers :

-What are some of the KEY/FUN points of the game?
    The Loading screen?

I am terribly sorry if this is not accurate, but I honestly tried to be as accurate as possible given my limited memory on the NGE.  It is a defense mechanism built in to my brain to try and protect me from replacing my fond memories for this game with this absolute rubish.

You would probably get better answers in the current forum as most people hate the NGE in here, but never the less ill give it a shot.

    PVP - no idea

Raid Monsters or something similar - not really.   All weapons and armor are more or less all drops as crafting has been neutered and decay does not exist.   You wont see 40 man raid groups in the game.

Population - tiny.   populated right now is 10+ players in the same area if your lucky.

    quests - donno

world expansive? - the world is huge.

    Fun? - hell no

movement - you can move in any direction, but there is no jump.  there is an emote for jump but you dont really jump.  on the other hand you can scale cliffs at will.

Game Dieing?  - oh yeah.   the current consensus is that its gonna die very soon, definatly within a year.

Key/fun points of the game? - frankly I cant really think of any.  In the old days I could give you a very long list, but now? nope.

-How is pvp? Is it open pvp or what?

PvP is nothing like it was before. Its much better infact. Nowadays you have a reason to pvp with all the pvp rewards and ranks, and pvp is also more accessible then before with the pvp battlegrounds, not to mention way more balanced now that there is no alpha class. Restuss is a fantastic idea and the pvp there is constant.

-Are there "raid monsters" or something simular? Are there rare or unique items that you can ONLY get from like drops and loots, quests ect.?

Yes, there are a number of those on mustafar and a few in the original game. More to come with chapter 4.

-How is the population? Is it big?

Its pretty much how it was pre-nge, which is to say that its more then sufficient. The only difference is that the major hubs have changed (from coronet to mos eisly for instance)

    -Quests repeditive?

Not really, the legacy quests are great fun and will take your character to the mid 50's. With the expansions you can quest your way all the way to 90, so you shold consider waiting for SWG:Complete to be released. (contains the original game and all three expansions for a very nice price)

    -World expansive?

The scenery is amazing and the point of interests more so. Ever wanted to take a stroll around jabbas palace? Well here is your chance. Whats also great is that quests are located around these star wars landmarks nowadays instead of just scattered randomly throughout the city.

-How long does it take to get to the lvl max?

Really hard to say. Id say with the mustafar expansion you could easily do it in a month of casual gaming.

    -FUN? ^_^

    Most definitely.

-Is the movement "free". Kind of like in WoW, how you can randomly move in almost all directions and jump and stuff? Or is it like Lineage 2's movement...?

You can remap the keys to make it almost exactly like WoW.

    -Worth the 15 bucks?

    Absolutely.

    -Is the game dieing?

Not in the slightest. Subscriptions have been on a rise in recent times. The game is more complete now then ever and people are starting to see that.

-What are some of the KEY/FUN points of the game?

The fantastic community, the great pvp and the amazing game world.

    Thanks alot!    ^-_-^

lol, just absolutely and completely hilarious

The game is bug-ridden with low subs as the devs try desparately to repackage the game or leave it dying on life support.

Take a trial to see what you think, then see if the bright and rosy picture painted by Pirrg is an accurate portrayal of the game.

If pirrg is serious, I'd like him to back it up with some screenshots inc one of his friends list (I'd like to include Obraik in this too, although Obraik's answers to your question in the next post are fair and balanced, I'm very keen to see a busy screenie on any galaxy)

-How is pvp? Is it open pvp or what?

PvP can theoretically happen any where.  To PvP though, you need to be "PvP enabled" or go Overt as it's reffered to in game.  Naturally, you can only attack other people that are overt.  A number of PvP areas have been introduced recently, with the more famous areas being Restuss which was part of a server-wide event.

-Are there "raid monsters" or something simular? Are there rare or unique items that you can ONLY get from like drops and loots, quests ect.?

Yes, although most of them exist in the expansion areas.

-How is the population? Is it big?

It's certainly not WoW size, heh.  If you want to be surrounded by people every where and all the time, then it's not going to happen in SWG.  This isn't really new in SWG, there's always been a few hotspot areas.

    -Quests repeditive?

Depends which quests you're doing.  The beginning Legacy quests can get pretty repetative, although they do get better once you move on from Naboo.  Quests on Mustafar and Kashyyyk (expansion planets) are pretty diverse.

    -World expansive?

There are 11 planets, 9 of which 16km by 16km in size.  Each part of those planets can be explored, there are no areas where you can't go and there are no limits on when you can go to them.  Ontop of that, there are 10 space sectors that are roughly the size and just as freel roaming.

-How long does it take to get to the lvl max?

Depends how much time you put in.  I'd guess and say it'd take at least a month of casual play.

    -FUN? ^_^

I find it fun, but peoples idea of fun differs from person to person.

-Is the movement "free". Kind of like in WoW, how you can randomly move in almost all directions and jump and stuff? Or is it like Lineage 2's movement...?

I'm not too familliar with WoW's movement, but there's no true jumping ability in SWG.

    -Worth the 15 bucks?

If you find it fun, then yes it is :)

    -Is the game dieing?

Heh, hot debate.  SOE & LA are not showing any signs of killing off the game anytime soon.

-What are some of the KEY/FUN points of the game?

For me, it's the number of options on things to do in the game.  Many of my play sessions don't involve any sort of combat.  Sometimes I might jump on and do some crafting, others I might spend time hunting on the bazaar for bargains, working on my house, socialising in a cantina, launch into space, questing, PvP, etc etc.  Alot of the stuff you find to do in SWG isn't from doing a quest or being directed to it by game mechanics.

    Thanks alot!    ^-_-^

Edit:  Forgot to add this :P  Of course, the best way to find out if the game is for you is to do the trial.  You'll be able to look at the entire game for 14 days and play it as if you were subscribed.  You can find it at www.tryswg.com

This is definitely the wrong forum to ask that question. You'll never get an honest unbiased view from this bunch.

I wouldnt suggest playing the Free Trial. From what I remember you're just stuck on the space station and you cant travel to other planets. Now if it's an unrestricted trial then yeah...give it a try. But the Free Trial that I did didnt portray the game for how it really is.

Do what I did. I went out and bought the starter kit. It's only $20. I bought the game a LiL over a month ago and I'm still playing it on a daily basis. Even if I happen to eventually get bored, I can at least say I definitely got my $20 worth. But so far it's the only game out there that is keeping my interest.

Yes, the free trial is now a trial of the entire game, not just the starter station :)  If you sub from the trial, you get ROTW (Kashyyyk) free as well.

PvP isn't open, you don't have to PvP at any point in SWG. There is a PvP battleground but that's it, either you go overt (few do) or try to get someone to accept a duel. There is bounty hunting and I've heard that's been re-introduced, but since you can avoid becoming a bounty and you lose nothing by dieing it makes it pretty pointless in my opinion.

-Are there "raid monsters" or something simular? Are there rare or unique items that you can ONLY get from like drops and loots, quests ect.?

Yes some raid gear to be had, but there are also many items owned by vets that can no longer be accquired or traded, so be prepared for that.

-How is the population? Is it big?
Around 50,000 spread out over 20 servers in my opinion, SOE refuses to release numbers anymore and the last figures (in Feburary) were very low.

    -Quests repeditive?

Much like most MMOs, just glorified fed ex missions.

    -World expansive?

Very large I'd say and very diverse.

-How long does it take to get to the lvl max?
Two weeks or so I heard.

    -FUN? ^_^

In my opinion, it's about as fun as experimental piles surgery!

-Is the movement "free". Kind of like in WoW, how you can randomly move in almost all directions and jump and stuff? Or is it like Lineage 2's movement...?
Yes the movement is free, no invisible walls.

    -Worth the 15 bucks?
    No.

    -Is the game dieing?
    Yes.

-What are some of the KEY/FUN points of the game?
In my opinion, canceling and finding a real MMORPG, this is Star Wars Battlefront Beta in my opinion.

    Thanks alot!    ^-_-^
No problem, and do the free trial first it might save you alot of time and money.

Given that opinions are biased pretty much definition, of course you wont see an unbiased view here, or in the other one. However, you will generally see honest views (as I said: opinions). Try the Free Trial and see for yourself.

You will find that Pirrg's statements are sometimes less than honest. His "as many people now as pre-NGE" line is a glaring fabrication. In pre-CU times, any of the game's hotspots would be a sea of people; your radar display would be a shifting mass of blue and purple dots. Even a year ago, many places had a heavy population.

    John? Julio? Nancy? Casey?

Which one are you Pirrg. What's your deal spewing this BS? What do you have to gain from lying all the time?

Are you trying to save SWG by conning one player at a time into trying it out?

You know as well as the rest of us the population is way down. Quit BSing people out of their money, and get out of this forum please. There's plenty of forums for the deluded to post on, go rejoin them.

PvP is not anything like it used to be, I'll agree with you on that. Combat used to be more of a traditional "target, the que your specials, and heal as necessary". The old professions provided for tons of combat diversity, even though some combinations were unbalanced. Now, combat is pretty much decided by who gets the first shot off. Restuss, while a good idea in theory, just isn't that great with the lack of players.

-Are there "raid monsters" or something simular? Are there rare or unique items that you can ONLY get from like drops and loots, quests ect.?
Yes, there are a number of those on mustafar and a few in the original game. More to come with chapter 4.
Chapter 4. Yes, the third attempt to "bring everyone back" (which may give you an idea of the population of the game). You can do well by attaining all of your equipment off of loot drops from mobs you can solo anyway, but Obraik will defend crafting and it may be true that if you want the best of the best, (not much worse than the loot) you'll have to go find a crafter.

-How is the population? Is it big?
Its pretty much how it was pre-nge, which is to say that its more then sufficient. The only difference is that the major hubs have changed (from coronet to mos eisly for instance)
That is a lie, but still no different from anything else you say. PreCU, sub numbers were close to a third of a million players, then dropped to half of that at the end of the CU. The NGE brought about the alltime low, estimated anywhere from 15k to 40k players. There are no population hubs, as you'd see that when you ask where everyone is, you'll hear, "They're all out questing." If you think seeing 8 people at a time is plenty, then you shouldn't have a hard time tolerating this game outside of Restuss.

    -Quests repeditive?
Not really, the legacy quests are great fun and will take your character to the mid 50's. With the expansions you can quest your way all the way to 90, so you shold consider waiting for SWG:Complete to be released. (contains the original game and all three expansions for a very nice price)
Not many of the quests will have you go back and forth to the exact same spawn (except a few of the early-on quests), but the whole grind is essentially "Go here and kill this" or "Bring this back to me" or "Deliver this to [X]" and any combination of the three.

    -World expansive?
The scenery is amazing and the point of interests more so. Ever wanted to take a stroll around jabbas palace? Well here is your chance. Whats also great is that quests are located around these star wars landmarks nowadays instead of just scattered randomly throughout the city.
There is no dispute here. SWG has the largest playable world I've seen in an MMO. Multiple planets with decent scenery, and cities (however empty) on every planet. It definately made for some fun exploring before vehicles and now the unholy Instant Travel Vehicles.

-How long does it take to get to the lvl max?
Really hard to say. Id say with the mustafar expansion you could easily do it in a month of casual gaming.
It all depends on how enthusiastic you are about playing this dead thing. I've heard stories of people leveling out in four days, or taking up to a couple months.

    -FUN? ^_^
    Most definitely
... only if you are a masochist. No, seriously, if you had never experienced SWG preNGE, you might find this game playable, or hell you might even enjoy it. I can't stand it anymore because it's so much more shallow than it was "in the good old days". Either way, I wouldn't expect it to hold your attention for more that a couple months.

-Is the movement "free". Kind of like in WoW, how you can randomly move in almost all directions and jump and stuff? Or is it like Lineage 2's movement...?
You can remap the keys to make it almost exactly like WoW.
You can move in any direction, even up and down almost-vertical surfaces (excluding buildings). There is a jump emote, but it won't help you get over any rocks or anything.

    -Worth the 15 bucks?
    Absolutely.
Only if you're too lazy to go flush it down a toilet.

    -Is the game dieing?
Not in the slightest. Subscriptions have been on a rise in recent times. The game is more complete now then ever and people are starting to see that.
It's hard to say how soon SWG will die (yes, "will die"). Some of the new updates are keeping people around for a little longer, but some will claim that SWG started dying even before the CU. I think that SOE is just keeping Shaiv - I mean SWG on life support until they get the fabled SWG2 into production. I'm hoping that this crapheap won't live long enough so SOE will need to bring back classic servers if they want to keep it alive.

-What are some of the KEY/FUN points of the game?
The fantastic community, the great pvp and the amazing game world.
Watching the uninstall wizard flash to show "Unistallation of SWG complete!"

I would like to point out that SWG has ZERO "RAID" bosses there are one or 2 that take a group, but your can never be more then 8, though as I understand it odds are you won't even need the full 8 for the toughest bosses in the game /shrug.

If you are looking for true raids you will need to look into games such as WoW, DAoC, EQ, EQ2, AO.

you should not need to raid to get uber items... go find a crafter that knows what hes doing and has the necessary equipment and make him do it... now its loot the boss get the item and forget about the carfters. exept for fancy furniture and decorations.. which you can loot anyway.

Not really, the legacy quests are great fun and will take your character to the mid 50's. With the expansions you can quest your way all the way to 90, so you shold consider waiting for SWG:Complete to be released. (contains the original game and all three expansions for a very nice price)
Not many of the quests will have you go back and forth to the exact same spawn (except a few of the early-on quests), but the whole grind is essentially "Go here and kill this" or "Bring this back to me" or "Deliver this to [X]" and any combination of the three.
i spend more time traveling on my vehicle than actually killing stuff and its like that for most of the quests out there.

It definately made for some fun exploring before vehicles and now the unholy Instant Travel Vehicles.
totaly true. best aspect of the game (NGE didn tchange that part :P) huge worlds dotn try to walk/run it or youl be on your computer for days. its open, not like wow where you are stuck in zones/canyons

-How long does it take to get to the lvl max?
Really hard to say. Id say with the mustafar expansion you could easily do it in a month of casual gaming.
It all depends on how enthusiastic you are about playing this dead thing. I've heard stories of people leveling out in four days, or taking up to a couple months.
hard to say indeed i can forcegrind for 2weeks in a row or casual in a month or barely in 4

    -FUN? ^_^
    Most definitely
... only if you are a masochist. No, seriously, if you had never experienced SWG preNGE, you might find this game playable, or hell you might even enjoy it. I can't stand it anymore because it's so much more shallow than it was "in the good old days". Either way, I wouldn't expect it to hold your attention for more that a couple months.
ive experienced pre-cu and no its not fun unless you have a guild that RPs or that just goes out and kill raid or harvest. but space is AWSOME specially when you have most of your guild on 2 POB ships and 10 small fighters escorting them to pvp space... thats fun. really feels like in the movies when han and luke are in the turets and see TIEs fly by and shooting.

There is a jump emote, but it won't help you get over any rocks or anything.
you can go anywhere you want exept up wals and thru buildings. red text sums it up right.

    -Worth the 15 bucks?
    Absolutely.
Only if you're too lazy to go flush it down a toilet.
i would make it 7-9$ and it would be fine.

I'm hoping that this crapheap won't live long enough so SOE will need to bring back classic servers if they want to keep it alive.
yes its dying. yellow text says its increassing but thats because they are the 21 days trials and the 14 day trials that will most likely not stay. but to be honest they are slightly increasing just a bit with the expertise system but they will soon go back down

-What are some of the KEY/FUN points of the game?
The fantastic community, the great pvp and the amazing game world.
Watching the uninstall wizard flash to show "Unistallation of SWG complete!"
SPACE expansion. and guild mates on vent/TS. Yellow text there is no comunity, unless you consider the 4 afk entertainers and the 2 that are buffing the jedi only guild.. OH i forgot to mention...60% jedi 30% Bounty hunter 10% the rest

    Thanks alot!    ^-_-^
    You're welcome! image

I try to stay as objective as I can, not lowering myself to constant flames and hate speeches, nor the twisted, lying proNGE propoganda that pirrg has made himself famous for.

Chapter 4. Yes, the third attempt to "bring everyone back" (which may give you an idea of the population of the game). You can do well by attaining all of your equipment off of loot drops from mobs you can solo anyway, but Obraik will defend crafting and it may be true that if you want the best of the best, (not much worse than the loot) you'll have to go find a crafter.

you should not need to raid to get uber items... go find a crafter that knows what hes doing and has the necessary equipment and make him do it... now its loot the boss get the item and forget about the carfters. exept for fancy furniture and decorations.. which you can loot anyway.

-How is pvp? Is it open pvp or what? You have to declare yourself as PvP-enabled, like Obraik said.

-Are there "raid monsters" or something simular? Are there rare or unique items that you can ONLY get from like drops and loots, quests ect.?  Yes, though not so much unique items.  Unless they changed this recently.

-How is the population? Is it big?  No, it's very small.  It was very large at one point in time; that time is gone.  The community is made of primarily children, moreso than even WoW.

-Quests repeditive?  Yes.  If repetitive questing is a problem, you will get bored after about level 20-25.

-World expansive?  The world is huge, always has been.

-How long does it take to get to the lvl max?  Taht I don't know.  I never made it.  My character transferred over to level 72.  I made it to level 76 before getting completely bored with the game and giving up completely.  That took 6 months, though I technically stopped playing about 2 months before that.

-FUN? ^_^  No.  Not even a little.  It USED to be fun, a long time ago.

-Is the movement "free". Kind of like in WoW, how you can randomly move in almost all directions and jump and stuff? Or is it like Lineage 2's movement...?  Kind of.  You will feel more restricted in movement than you do in WoW, and there is no jumping at all.  You can go over and on obstacles in WoW; in SWG they only get in your way.  A stick on the ground will block your entrance through a door.

-Worth the 15 bucks?  No.  It would not be worth it if they paid you to play it.

-Is the game dieing?  From a community standpoint, yes.  It has been since November 15 last year.

-What are some of the KEY/FUN points of the game?  The free trial is the most fun, as it was designed for the NGE.  They tried to convert the rest of the game over to the NGE and they failed miserably.

Thanks alot!    ^-_-^  You're quite welcome, hopefully your decision was sufficiently influenced.  Incidentally, in this forum you'll encounter a lot of hate for SWG.  For pro-SWG views, Obraik is the only person you can trust.  Anyone else is just blowing smoke.

I haven't played regularly since precu but I resubscribe every few months to see what's changed
-How is pvp? Is it open pvp or what?
Pvp is one of the better aspects of the game since it seems the devs have been focusing alot on it. It is not balanced since all classes haven't been given thier expertise yet. They did bring back player pvp bases as well as added some battlefields and the Restuss area. On a majority of servers the lack of population really hurts pvp, especially on my server Wanderhome.  A few servers still have a moderate population, I know Bria is one of them. To me the pvp gets old rather quickly.
-Are there "raid monsters" or something simular? Are there rare or unique items that you can ONLY get from like drops and loots, quests ect.?
No there are no raid monsters. All the high level mobs in the expansion areas are soloable including HK, Shar ker, Necrosis. They do have some unique drops but some of the better drops are components that you gather and than combine in a cube to make the item you want.
-How is the population? Is it big?
On the majority of servers no it is very small. Again a few servers have a moderate population.
    -Quests repeditive?
I did the legacy quests with a new character I made when I last played and i found them very boring. I eventually gave up on them and went to Dath to grind out the lvls.
    -World expansive?

The worlds are actually quite large and the overall size of the game is huge.
-How long does it take to get to the lvl max?
Some say only a few weeks but I found grinding in this newest system very boring. I just didn't care to continue lvling past 70 on my new character.
    -FUN? ^_^
No. The NGE combat system is better than when it released but it is no comparison in my opinion to precu or cu. The new particle effects make me feel like I'm playing some sort magic game instead of Star Wars
-Is the movement "free". Kind of like in WoW, how you can randomly move in almost all directions and jump and stuff? Or is it like Lineage 2's movement...?
Movement is ok. There is a type of jump but you mostly just spring upwards a little. The controls have improved some since the NGE released.
    -Worth the 15 bucks?
    Not in my opinion.
    -Is the game dieing?
From what I have seen in my last few times I resubscribed I'd say yes. The most recent time I played was up until about 2 weeks after chapter 3.
-What are some of the KEY/FUN points of the game?
I don't find much fun in the game anymore. I'm still a bit jaded from all that happened. My guild that I was part of for over 2 years all left. I try to go into it with an open mind each time I go back hoping it will be better but I just don't find the new game fun in my opinion.

    Thanks alot!    ^-_-^
