Sony has its veteran EQ programmers.
Blizzard has its veteran Diablo programmers.
MEO folks have their veteran programmers.
But the new Lejendary Adventure games has one thing all of them are missing:
E. Gary Gygax (the father of Roleplaying games)
Will 2004 be the year that MMORPG's are dominated by EQ2, World of Warcraft, or MEO?
Think again. Lejendary Adventures has the big guy himself, Gygax. So step aside, noob developers, because Gygax is on the spot with a fistful of 20-sided dice in each hand and ready to kick some butt and make MMORPG history.
This game is a sleeper, I tell you, but it will be a revolution in gaming. Time will tell.

I'm not sure Gary Gygax will impress me as much as Richard Garriott probably will. My only thought is that there's not a massive enough amount of people to play all these massive multiplayer games.
Revolutionary? Can't you see it? It's Gygax, the man with the 20-sided dice. They guy who wrote the original Dungeons and Dragons game. The guy who sat back in his TSR office and read (and answered) countless letters presenting gaming questions (as can a Wizard wear armor? Do Dwarven women have beards? Does a fireball fill 33 1/3 ten by ten spaces if set off in a dungeon? etc).
This is the man to bring MMORPG's to their status of greatness. I can think of no other resource as capable and visionary.
Gygax was ONE of the fathers of Role Playing but there is no need to idolize him. Once he left (forcebly removed) from TSR his D&D products were utter tripe. With d20 Gygax has risen again and his stuff seems OK. To think that his association alone will make the game is a bit naive. mmorpgs do NOT equal table top (thank heavens! As I prefer the later.)
Don't get me wrong, I am not dis-ing the game...just suggesting it takes more than a big company (Sony) a big brand (Warcraft) or a Big personality to make a good mmorpg.
I won't go into why he was removed from TSR.

I havent read anything about this game yet (next stop any web site even mentioning the game).
All i can say is that i hope that he can bring some of the pleasure that pen and paper D&D gave me. Dice rolls, huge rulebooks, giant bestiaries etc. i want it all. i want a game so immersive i spend 3 years creating a character!
And this may well be the game to do this.
(please note i know nothing of this game but the title so may be rambling nonsense )
Muahahahahahahaha
MUAHAHAHAHAHA
I have to agree with Anthrorob. Though Gygax is one of the fathers of roleplaying, he is not the man. He had several issues with TSR which caused his "removal" from the company. His name may bring users to the game, but his presence does not translate into a great game. There is no reason to build a shrine in the name of Gygax. His recent D20 material is ok at best. He lost his edge after about 88.

While I agree that a game can't be good just because it has a big name attached to it, nore will I argue that gary is god, however I would like to state the reason why Grayx was fired. 2nd edition. TALK ABOUT YOUR POS CRAPPY AWEFUL NASTY SYSTEMS TO EVER HAVE TO CHOKE YOUR WAY THROUGH A CAMPANGIN THROUGH!!!!! Oh and did I mention he got fired because he apposed the changes that TSR was making with the introduction of 2nd edition. So while no, he might not be a god, he still knowns crap when he see's it, and that's good enough for me.
Gygax got fired because of his very public attack of 2nd edition, not because he opposed 2nd edition. He tore apart TSR in several articles. He made himself look like a jerk and gave the company a black eye for a while. His firing was very justified.
BTW, I like the 2nd edition. I thought it was a good system, though it had many issues, but most systems do.
