Awards and good reviews are meaningless.  Part of being an intelligent human being is making decisions for yourself and not letting others make them for you.

This whole argument kind of reminds me of the movie tommy boy. You can take a crap in a box and slap a guarantee on it and it's still a piece of crap.

You can't trust gamesites and award programs.  Most of them get paid to award and promote the products.

I don't know, maybe they did.  You don't know either.  Of course they most likely didn't. But then again I doubt they go to sites like MMORPG.com and tell everyone that their reviews are worthless either.  So you lose credibility as well.

I woudln't ever base my purchasing of a game on a professional reviewer, nor would I some organization like the BAFTA.  I would base my opinions more so on the average Joe (or bloke for our Brit friend here).  Even then though if there is a game that appeals to me I would still get it even if the majority of the people said beware.  But at least I would go into the purchase knowing what my actual peers thought about the game.

Professional Reviews are greedy, organizations like the BAFTA and the Oscars have agendas.  To me it's all the same.

But for the OP to make a blanket statement saying that the reviews on this site and sites like it are worthless is crock.

So, you call this a serious review?

No, but for everyone of those type threads there is usually another thread where someone that has actually played the game has taken the time to actually play it.    However those threads like the above don't cause me to say, "Gee I better see what the BAFTA or whoever thinks".   All they do is tell me that I need to research further.  Even so those threads can have some valuable information.   I usually hit the userinfo button on people to research their previous topics.   I can't do that with the BAFTA.

Awards are something you put on your advertisments.

Uh, thats not even the sites review.  According to you reviews on sites like this are worthless.  Your example isn't even a review it's a forum discussion.

This is the real website's review

    yes.

Geographical knowledge isnt a requirement to write about the features included in a video game.

You are so right, finally somebody understands, awards from credible sources and those known to the general public increase sales.

A mother goes into a games store, sees two games her son/daughter might like as a surprise present, one has got the gamespot/mmorpg.com award on the box, the other an Oscar/Bafta/Golden Globe award sticker, now I guarantee which the parent will pick up.

I seriously doubt that Mommy dearest would even look at the box.

And I can promise you that the ones that actually are going to be likely to buy said games (litlte Johnny) would take Gamespot's award over the BAFTA any day of the week.

LOL, thus my sarcasm.  Yes I know the history between the Irish and the British.  Why else would I find calling you a Brit so funny if I didn't know the history?  Good God man are you always that uptight or just stupid?

Why would the differences between Britain and Ireland come up in a game review? image

Okay it is clear you are just a troll.   You are upset that your beloved BAFTA announced your beloved DDO as the best multiplayer for 2006 and yet the game is still bombing.  I am not saying anything against DDO.  Hell I even got me a copy coming via Ebay.   But I assure you that the BAFTA award had NOTHING to do with it.  But I digress.

You really need to get off your high and mighty soapbox.   Either you really don't undrestand sarcasm or you think that you are beyond it.   Either way you come to the site and make a blanked statement about how this site and it's members are worthless (or at least their reviews are).  Sure there are plenty of lame reviews but as we have already mentioned there are many, many more vaild ones.

As others have stated if you base your buying solely on reviews or some award then you are stupid and deserve to get whatever comes your way.  However I really don't think most people on here do that.   Most of us are smart enough to see through the reviews made by people in anger or out of seer lack of knowledge about said game.

    So please troll elsewhere.

Didn't you say earlier that you understood sarcasm?

We will just have to agree to disagree but remember this thread when in say 4 or 5 years time, these awards from the likes of BAFTA and everyone else become the dominant reviews when influencing people's decisions, just like they do with movies!

The gaming industry has been crying out to gain credibility and it has begun.

By the way, don't mention a game, say it's rubbish and later on say, oh but I have ordered it, nothing to do with awards of course lol. You obviously don't like DDO, so why then order it?

While I will agree to disagree with you just to put a end to this thread, I am sorry but I seriously don't think that these organizations like the BAFTA will really have any effect on the general gaming population be it 5 years or 10 years from now.   Sure people will make a mental note of them but in the end they are still going to go to places like MMORPG.com and Gamespot to help make up there mind.

Whilst I want to end this thread too, your statement is incorrect, the GENERAL GAMING public do not know about these websites. Do you think the Japanese, Chinese, French or Germans read this site, no, it's in English.

The BAFTA mask symbol or Oscar symbol on a game is universally recognised, needs no introduction, immediately, people associate them with quality.

The population in DDO on the European servers has increased greatly since that award was announced, fact. It will increase again on Wedenesday with the new content.
