"why play until the expansion?" (US Thread)

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=38084084&sid=1

Hello. I was just thinking to myself, "why play until the expansion."

Right now my guild is in Naxxramas. We're chugging along making decent progress with the players we have. We're having some issues with people wanting to play though and I thought about it today and I really cant do anything but agree.

Save perhaps the enjoyment we'd get from raiding and hanging out together, why would anyone whose currently playing continue to play until the expansion?

I think this sentence pretty much sums up how a lot of people feel about the expansion. It came from a discussion about why raid attendence has dropped off.

"It looks like easily obtainable BC loot will be as good as loot that would take 100's of hours of Naxx raiding to get. That's a motivation killer"

Now I enjoy raiding in WoW, but, and this is a rather large but, why continue to raid and play the game when in a few months we could spend 30 mins - 2 hours and get the same equivilent loot as spending 10-30 hours a week in Naxxramas.

Anyway, I just thought i'd pose the question. Why farm for hours and hours, go through hell in Naxxramas, when we could instead start up warcraft 3 and play some Dota with our guildmates until the expansion is released?

Edit: Also I forgot. I dont think leveling up quickly is really a reason to continue to raid and play the game. I've had full tier 2 for 5 months. Im wearing a mix of tier 2.5 and tier 3. I dont see a point in getting 2-5 more items that are minor upgrades so I can level a tad bit faster when the expansion hits. So again, why bother?

Eyonix: We'll be releasing a content patch prior to the release of the expansion. More details to come soon.

hmmm, what do you think about that answer?

Eyonix: Keep in mind, we do plan to push a content patch prior to release, which could occupy your holiday time quite well.

    Q: whats in it?

Eyonix: Oh, you know, just a few small things such as a brand new honor system, as well as new talents and abilities along with dozens of other changes and improvements. ;)

Not to mention the push back from a November to a December release.

    Those bastards.

The thing I do not like about Eyonix statement is that he is not really telling why they are adding stuff in before the expansion. Its because they have to so the people that do not buy the ex pack, can still play on a similar basis and have 1 honor system. The problem I forse with this, is it going to be playable, or are they just going to leave issue's hanging around till BC is released. I really wish he would just say what they are going to do lol.

  • Well I am surprised actually.  But I can't see how that content patch would be a raid so how does it help that guy.  Well nothing will help that guy because if gear is the only reason he plays then he's already and will forever be screwed.

But anyway I wonder what content they would, I kinda don't think they have anything spectacular, because otherwise they would hyping it.  And it would need to be released soon, say beginning of Dec, or else what is the point with January= BC?

It sound like with the push back they have decided to put things from the expansion that are purely design, like pre-60 new talents into a content patch.

BTW that guy's last setnence is incredibly sad, if he thinks Naxx is going through hell he really needs to check himself and stop.

  • Heh the OP that LSD posted is from my old server :P.  I was horde side too and new some people from DA.

@gestalt11: the 1st post could mean that T3 Sets will get an upgrade (it's an other thread then the other Eyonix posts and direct answer to the question "why play (raid naxx) until the expansion?" )...
    and with:

...he just wanted to express how difficult and hard Naxx is. I don't think he wanted to express that it is no fun. But after spending houres of farming pots and wiping at bosses you ask your self why if you see the BC loots.
Nobody wants the uber equip which you can wear until level 70 and T4. But Blizzard said the work is worth until Medivhs tower (lvl70 10 man instance) and now lvl 65 loot seems to be better and very easy to get.

@mainsub: why should he explain the delay if you can read the reasons in the press release? and they will only add contet that will be available without expansion. this content was planed to be released with BC but now it will be released earlier cause of the longer beta.

How can he possibly not be insinuating it isn't fun when he is saying he would rather play a game released 5 years ago that he has almost certainly played into the groudn rather than raid Naxx?

Even without the "hell" comment there really can't be any question can there?  It is clear that not just superior  gear but vastly superior gear is the only motivation here.  Without gear he would be playing WC3.  He says so specifically.  And the only thing he thinks would it worthwhile to play a game that he finds arduous is to give him stuff that is better than anything that will drop outside a BC raid.

Naxx stuff is at least level 66-67 blues.  So he is gettting better gear.  He says, very plainly, that he can have fun with his guildies playing WC3 and would rather do that unless he is incentivized with gear that is of the quality I mentioned above.

I do not know whether he has fun in Naxx or not.  But its is pretty clear that he thinks WC3 is more fun.

How can it be interpretted any other way?  Its quite plain.

We do not know the leveling curve of BC yet, but it is probably a safe bet that people will get naxx quality gear in a fraction of the time that Naxx raiders did.  So what?  You can't get that stuff now and you will still have superior gear when youa re 61.  Naxx raiders are getting superior gear.

If this guys stops playing WoW and starts playing WC3 it is a tacit admission that without vastly superior gear rewards he simply finds WoW to be a less fun game than WC3 and that for him the majority of fun from raiding is the items.  Afterall he no longer needs to worry about farming for them because he can just get them while he levels up and use his time more efficiently.  Since that incentive has become less important he will no longer raid in WoW.  Ipso facto he doesn't think it is actually fun enough to raid in WoW to be a valuable use of his time.  Therefoe this is basically all about greed.

I think the expansion is a sideways admission by Blizzard that their
end game was borked, and they decided to fix it (or at least make it a
bit less punishing).   From raids to the PvP experience the
new 60-70 game seems to be a lot better thought out than the 60 game we
    are all playing now.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
