World PVP?

TacoManTacoMan Member Posts: 9
I am thinking about getting this game. I used to play World of Warcraft, but I quit cause it's too time-consuming.

I'm a casual gamer and I don't really care for the whole guild battles or organized battlegrounds. One of the things I liked about WoW was the world PvP. Just
wandering around aimlessly and picking fights with random people. Can
you do that in GW?

Nope, all pve zones are instanced, making world pvp an impossibility.

Okay thanks. I'll end up checking it out.

The PvP in GW is controlled and instanced, like the rest of the game. This allows for teams to go into battle with their skill sets arranged in a certain way so that they compliment one-another allowing for actual strategy instead of button mashing. These are called team builds and there are so many out there it is impossible to name them all, it creates a balanced PvP world where having uber leet armor does not make you the best in the world. If you found WoW time consuming I think you will enjoy GW, good luck and if you need more advice just ask!

Well the problem I had with WoW was that PvP was based more on gear than skill. I don't want to spend 20+ or whatever hours a week it is just raiding for gear because I don't enjoy it. If PvP on WoW was more balanced I'd be playing it right now.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about GW PvP. I'll pick it up tomorrow and give it a go. It's only $40 and no monthly fee so aside from $40 I have nothing to lose.

I will miss PKing and ganking random night elves though. :)

GW is all MADE for Guild vs Guild PvP'ing. And that is what it does best. If you feel there is too little skill and so on in other games GW is your choise.

Its fast, it's engageing. GW manages to fit RPG with Skills. Something at least I've never seen before.

It's not even about leveling in GW. You have 20 levels which you level pretty fast. And you never have to think about gear-fixation again.

World PVP exists in the form of a worldwide tournament via, a guild ranking system. Also, any player can spectate your guild matches, so it's quite a good feature in GW, although I've not experimented much with it.

I like the observer mode (available through B while in town). Makes for some interesting watching from time to time.

I like the strategy required in the guild wars PVP, but i have to admit it would be nice to get a little more variety in the matches.  It would be nice if they added one section to the world that had non-organised pvp.

i had the same problem with wow, too time-consuming and gear depending pvp (especially for a dps warrior like my char was :)) plus my mom said it took up too much of my free time (i played only 10h/week though :p ) and just 2 days after i got 60 i had to quit. So seeing as i'm pvp oriented and i don't really want to pve, is it a good idea to just create a GW pvp only char and only go to random arenas? (i don't have hours of free playtime, so...)

RA is perfect for people that don't have time for organized pvp. It's a quick fix, and addictive. I sometimes go in for a match, and 4 hours later, I'm still there. Thankfully, the new pvp templates are very decent now. So even if you don't have a lot of skills unlocked, you can take a Frenzy Theory warrior and crack some skulls.

Having to go to a specific area (random arenas) is not 'wandering around aimlessly' ;)

Hey OP! If you feel that you want to fight annoying people in a 1v1 duel you should get Nightfall when it comes out.

There you can duel people 1v1 style but you don't just fight one char vs another. Since that would absolutely be too unbalanced. Instead you fight with your Heroes .vs. another person with HIS heroes.

If you don't know what the heroes are they are bots. Who you control. THey are a natural part of your team. You level them, gear them, and control them.

I'm really looking forwards to that aspect of the game!
