Why are so many posters flaming Dan's column, where Mourning...errrm... Thrones of Chaos is concerned?

If you were around when the original incarnation---Mourning---was being touted as such a 'fresh' looking new Title; then stuck around for it's complete unravelling---you'd be showing some major Gratitude to Dan for daring to sound the fair warning.

A lot-- & I mean a LOT of good Gamers paid good money & never got to experience any kind of gameplay whatsoever (myself included).

Then there were the infamous fascist tactics used by the powers-that-be on their own Forums; i.e.-"have a problem with our poor quality game & service?--dare to simply ask about it here?--Poof!--you've been deleted!"

It's going to take some doing before I even consider giving Thrones of Chaos a passing glance, especially when Dan points out that the new Co. is keeping the old engine. If they're legit, I wish them well & Much Luck-- because they're going to need lots of Luck to pull this off.

Dan, I don't consider you to be a 'jaded' Gamer---I'd say you're more like the experienced, seasoned Gamer, who just has a knack for spotting fouls in an online game. There's obviously a lot of newer Gamers here on these boards; their flaming speaks volumes to that fact.

Before others jump on the flame-wagon, Please do your background checking first----like Dan did. A LOT of Good Gamers got totally ripped off by the first incarnation--'Mourning'. Why would any of us not want to be warned that Thrones of Chaos is using the old & dreaded Mourning engine?

Like I said, I wish the new company lots of Luck; & I'd really like to see them turn out to be legit.

In the meantime, however, I'd just like to say: "Thanks Dan! Great article & a sound warning Not to be taken lightly, again. Gratz! imageimageimage

There is no information here that hasn't already been aired at least once. A shameless WoW plug in an article that has bugger all to do with it, and the fact that the author has, again, produced a too short, sub-par article with nothing new, interesting or even informative means I will be steering clear of these in future.

World of Warcraft, for example, reminded us that there is a mass market
for these types of games and that a MMO could worm its way into pop
    culture.

Is a shameless WoW plug?  WTF?

Some here really need to get out from their Ma's basement and actually see the world.  Do you even know what it means to be a Columnist?  From your remarks I, and some others, can tell you aint got a clue.

    lrn2liveinrealworld before you start blathering.

I liked this column better than the previous one.  Some good information.  I would have liked the link or the highlights of Mourning in the article, but I appreciate the link in the forums.  Very helpful.  And yes, a little more meat and a couple less cliches and life will be better.  Unless, of course, the author is giong for the 'guy that uses way too many cliches' tag.

I had not heard of Mourning, but I am glad the history was brought to our attention.  I liked the Enron comparison, very appropriate.  Although the author didn't mention that Ken "Kenny Boy" Lay died right before he was to go to prison.  The conspiracy theorist in me says he is living in the Carribean off of more 'undisclosed compensation'...  But that is another story.

And yes, WoW is now, whether you like it or not, the MMO by which others will be judged.  It used to be EQ, but that time has passed.  You cannot ignore the game with the current largest player base just because you may not like it.  No, not the best game in the world, not the worst either.  So if the author likes it or not does not actually matter in this case as it is relevant in many MMO discussions.
